Whispers from the Library

I sent some overdue notices to the students on Monday. If you’re child needs to retun some books please send them to the library as soon as possible. It’s great to see students borrow but we need to have the books returned. If you are certain you have brought back a book, come see me and we’ll check the shelves. If we cannot find it on the shelves, you need to check with the classroom teacher and see if your child has their book in their tubs, under their desks, etc.

Return everything by Friday Week 8 (02/12/2016)

It’s that time of the year where all library books will need to be returned. Please have a good look everywhere you can think of – in school bags, under beds, behind closets, in kitchen benches, around the lounge room, in the garage, boot of your car, under car seats, at a friend’s house, cousins, aunts/uncles and grandparents, in the toilet, absolutely anywhere!!!!!!!

Damaged Books

If you find that your child or a sibling has damaged a book, please DO NOT THROW IT AWAY. We can examine them and see if they are fixable. This way you won’t have to pay for the missing book. If the book is beyond repair, you’ll most probably have to pay for the book. Never throw a book in the bin – it is the property of Guildford Public School and should always be returned, damaged or not.

Thank you

Mr Norambuena

(Teacher Librarian).

Spider day was a successful fundraising event for the Year 6 students organised by the spider day team (Rahman,Azman,Luke and Hessam). Everyone was excited to enjoy the spider drinks.

We sold the drinks at lunch time and at times it got hard for us to keep up with the demand but we kept pouring the drinks and scooping the ice-cream! We raised a huge $410.Thanks to the community and the lovely parents for generously donating all the ice cream, cups, straws, spoons and some of the drinks. Also thanks to all the other year 6 students who helped out by donating the drinks for the spider day, we gratefully appreciate it.

SPEECHES Last Wednesday, 19 students from Year 5 delivered a short speech about why they should be the 2017

school captain, vice-captain or prefect. They had to consider the following questions:

• Why do you think you would be a great school leader? • What are some of the ways you have already demonstrated leadership? • What will you do to make Guildford Public School a better place to learn?

Here is what they thought about the experience:

Jana El Ramlawi (5T): I started to write my speech but then thought what will I do not for me but for Guildford Public School I had a huge opportunity that I wanted to take. I started off by taking a deep breath and walked on stage when I said my joke and you guys laughed it boosted my confidence to keep going! Mahmut Atilgan (5J) - When I first got on the stage I had a stage fright but when I did my speech I looked at the camera and my fright kind of went away. But I was still scared. Samira Kamoda (5J): It was a great opportunity to say a speech to be a captain or a prefect, I was a nervous wreck when I had to say it to Miss Bryceland and Miss Ali Khan they said I was very eligible, meaning I met the criteria. When Miss Bryceland and Miss Ali khan said that I would have to say my speech in front of the whole school I had butterflies in my stomach. When the day came to say the speeches I was ready to go but a few days before I had LOST MY SPEECH so I wrote it all over again and when it came to my go I was really nervous, but confident at the same time. Ali Hamdan (5J): I was so happy to make it to the second round I appreciated that Miss Ali Khan and Miss Bryceland for letting me go to the second round. As I was on stage, I thought I might be sick but I was confident in myself and when I finished my speech it felt like heaven. My blood was cold I was so thankful that I finished. Saif Abdulrahman (5J): from Austin to Yousef.N Mesum to…to me. Once my name was called out I was shocked and a gust of fear hit me

the second that I got off my chair. I looked around and Ali.H say’s “Good luck!”, with a thumbs up, as I got up off the chair and on the stage. I looked around and see some people not listening, that's why I was nervous. The reason why everyone gets nervous is because you don't want to be judged, that's why I was nervous with shock to see cameras, phones and ipads. But, once I started to read my speech I remembered the advice Miss Bryceland gave me and the feeling that I got from the word that is “eligible”. The teachers said to speak slowly, loudly and clearly. I felt so free once I had finished and some kids were looking at me and that filled me with joy and pride. Zachariah.Keogh (5J) -It was so scary when I had to speak in front of Miss Bryceland and Miss Ali Khan and when I heard I made it in I was so thrilled. Wednesday came and I had to speak in front of years 2-5. I was really nervous and knowing that my brother was not here I thought, who would vote for me? Knowing that I had a lot of good potential leaders to verse I was scared. “Zach from 5J will now come and tell you why he wants to be a captain”. “Good afternoon Student, Teachers and parents… before I start” Wait will I do well?......... Sytori Noble (5T): It was a huge credit to perform a speech in front of years 2-5. At first it was quite nerve racking as I strived to continue my speech but, then I recognised my speech was over and done with. A few minutes later I worried about did I do it right? Did everyone like it? Will they vote for me? And even Will I even make a school representative or did I do it for nothing? When the contributors started voting I decided that even if I didn't become a school leader at least I tried. It's the determination that counts.

Sybelle Alameddine (5T): It was the most scary thing that I have done in my whole life, especially when I had a sore throat. I was scared that people would think my voice would sound funny, but thankfully it didn’t. After my speech I wanted to do my speech again because I had lost my stage fright and butterflies. Alexandra Floyd (5J) - I heard my name “And our next speech is by Alexandra Floyd in 5J” I took breaths in and out. I went on stage and was very scared. I looked around I saw a huge crowd staring at me from on the floor. I started my speech and it turned out to be alright. After half way through my speech I was alright because I got used to all these people staring at me and I was happy that my speech was flowing well. I finally finished my speech and sat down, I was so happy to have this wonderful experience and I was proud of myself for trying. All I remembered was that I TRIED MY BEST AND IT DOESN'T MATTER IF I DON'T GET TO BE A SCHOOL LEADER. Nicole Tan Terles (5T) - When I got on the stage, having to say my speech in front of years 2-5, I felt really nervous if I did good, but when I saw everyone I knew I needed to do my speech. Once I finished my speech I felt really proud of myself and glad that I had this opportunity to say my speech in front of an audience. Madison Osekerita (5J) - When I got on stage I felt very nervous just listening to the other speakers, although as I said my speech I got used to it and went with the flow. As I watched the other speakers I knew that I could do this, and I have the courage to do it. So as I started, I got confident as I was presenting my speech to our wonderful 2-5 classes. Austin Flood (5T) - Since I was the first one to go on stage I was probably the most nervous person.it was so scary seeing all those students and parents staring at me wile I was saying my speech although when I finished I felt great listening to the other people on the stage. At lunch time I felt great and my parents were very proud of me because they never tried out for stuff like student leader or prefect for their schools! Yousef Nabizadeh (5T) - When I got on the stage, I felt very scared that I would mumble in front of everyone. But as soon as I got to the middle of my speech, I started to get used to it. My tip speaking in

front of everyone in the school is to take a deep breath in and out! It took me a long time to make this speech and to be where I am now, I am very proud of myself! Mesum Rezai: When I got on the stage I felt very nervous and very scared when my name came after Yousef N’s name. I felt very scared and nervous. Before I got on the stage I said “Mesum just think that no one is in front of you”. But that didn’t work so I said “No..,nothing is going to work while reading my speech”. I wasn’t looking at anyone, I was looking at the wall and that helped me so much. Yusef Tarabiya (5J) - If you haven’t noticed I tried out for Captain! You're all saying! He must’ve nailed his posture! Well let me tell you something… It was a hot day and I still shook violently, with enormous goose bumps! My name was called out to deliver my amazing speech, hopefully being enjoyed by all! I took a deep breath wishing all my fellow candidates good luck for their amazing job! The first few seconds were killing me! I was so nervous until my speech started flowing around the first 20 seconds! I talked about my previous experiences throughout the education department, fitting a few jokes in here and there, convincing them that Yusef Tarabiya is their only hope towards a great future! Hopefully people showed their support by voting me #1, thinking different for a change and trusting me to lead them towards victory! Rain or shine or whenever they please that’s only if they desire. Zac A- I walked onto the stage and I wasn’t that confident. Tyson Brown (56C): I was terrified at first so I took a deep breath which made me calm and confident so I started my speech. I was amazed because I couldn't have done this last year because I was so shy and scared because it was a new school which meant new friends.
