What a year we have had and what resilience has been demonstrated! Hoopla What a great success this annual event proved to be last Thursday afternoon! Our school raised $2138 in just one hour and there was so much fun and excitement evident. Well done to our Year 6 students and the teachers that supported them at their activity. We sincerely thank our parents who donated items for our stalls; we couldn’t have been so successful without you. Semester Two Reports Reading through reports on our students is such a great pleasure as so many students have made impressive academic gains throughout this year. These reports are currently being finalised and printed and will go home to you this Thursday, 10th December 2020. Please remember to celebrate the learning that has taken place throughout this year with your child. All students have achieved many individual learning goals and have maximised their attitude to learning and effort. They can be justifiably proud of themselves and, I know you as parents, will be extremely proud of them as learners too. Presentation Day This annual event celebrates and acknowledges the individual effort and progress in learning that every student in every class has made this year. This is a year to remember and teachers are immensely proud of all their students. Learning certificates will be presented to each student in their classroom before their Presentation Assembly in our hall to recognise academic achievement. Once again this year, every class will have awards to present to students at Presentation Assembly on a pro-rata basis. This means teachers have one award per 5 students in their class. All awards will include a certificate and a book voucher for QBD bookstore at Macarthur Square. This gives students the flexibility to select an appropriate book at their leisure. Our sincere thanks go to P&C who provide funds for these awards. From the Principal

Welcome to Week 9 where I can hardly believe this is our last full week of school for 2020 and my last full week of school forever.

Please remember to celebrate the learning that has taken place throughout this year with your child. All students have achieved many individual learning goals and have maximised their attitude to learning and effort. They can be justifiably proud of themselves and, I know you as parents, will be extremely proud of them as learners too.

Wollondilly Electrical Donation A sincere thank you to Wollondilly Electrical for their generous donation to put towards our Presentation Day Assembly Awards.

Class Christmas Parties Our classes will still enjoy their annual stage-based Christmas parties this year on Tuesday, 15th December 2020. Previously, parents have supplied party food for all classmates to share. This year, we have come up with a wonderful solution to not being allowed to have any sharing of food due to Department of Education Covid-19 safety guidelines. Students will be able to purchase a special Christmas party lunch order from our Canteen on this day. Soon, information will be provided about available party lunch choices which will be individually packed by Allison and delivered to your child’s class on the day of our Class parties. If your child does not wish to order their party lunch, they can still bring their own lunch for this day.

Student Achievements Congratulations to the twenty-three Year 5 students who so confidently and competently delivered their speech to be a minister last Thursday morning to a live Stage 3 audience and to the other classes via Zoom. Well done to Ryder from Tajiri class who has written a heartfelt letter to Santa. David in Disney class is now a “crocodile” in Maths meaning he can count on and back from any number, determine missing addends, use known number facts such as doubles and near doubles and basically, is an outstanding mathema- tician already and he is only in Kinder! Way to go students!

COVID-Safe Summer Pack As we come closer to the end of the school year, we’d like to extend our thanks to you, our parent community, for demonstrating so much resilience and patience towards the circumstances we faced together. We strived together to get the best outcomes for our students despite the pandemic and you have stayed by our side the entire time. Thank you again. We will be sending a COVID-safe summer pack to each student before the year ends. The contents of the pack will help students maintain healthy hygiene practices and to stay COVID-safe during the school holidays. Here are some quick tips to help you and your families stay COVID-safe during the school holidays: * Encourage your children to use their packs whenever they leave the house * Meet outdoors whenever possible and wear sunscreen * Meet in small groups * Encourage good hand hygiene practices and remind your children to cough and sneeze into their elbow * Keep up-to-date with the latest health information by monitoring the NSW Government website From all of us at Appin Public School, be safe and enjoy the school holidays. Updating School It is very important that we have up to date and correct contact details for our students. If you have a new home address, mobile phone number or email address, please contact our school office to update these details as soon as possible.

Enrolments for 2021 It is vitally important this year that families notify our Office if their children will not be attending our school next year. Likewise, please notify our Office if you know of any families moving into Appin with children who plan to enrol at our school for next year. It is imperative that we know exact numbers as soon as possible to help with organisation of classes for 2021.

Naming of Clothing & Lost Property Please come and check our lost property bin before the end of term as we will donate any unclaimed items to the Uniform Shop or to a charity. Please also clearly label your child’s clothing or things they bring to school and replace these names when they wear off. Please also ask at the front office for any valuable lost items such as watches, glasses, jewellery etc.
