"This 'last hope of salvation' is the recourse to His Feast of Mercy. Jesus first appeared to St. Faustina in 1931 and He told her that she was to prepare the world for His return. He told her that before He comes again, He would pour out His mercy. In that vision Jesus was dressed in a white garment and had two bril-liant rays of light coming from His Heart, one red as blood, the other clear as water. He told her to paint an image of Him just as she had seen Him and to sign it "Jesus, I Trust In You." She was also to work on establishing a Feast of Mercy in the Church and to have the painted image venerated throughout the world. Our Lord said that this feast is to be celebrated on the first Sunday after Easter. On May 5th, 2000 the Vatican issued a decree and fulfilled the will of Christ by establishing this feast, now called 'Divine Mercy Sunday.'" http://www.divinemercysunday. com/sample_stories.htm

In my opinion it is wonderful to have the Feast Day of the Divine Mercy one week after Easter. Easter is about the resurrection that leads us to the experience of liberation - moving from slavery of sin to free-dom of being a beloved child of God. God saves me from sin. Sin, separates me from God, people and myself. Sin affects my relationships. When I sin I do not want to have much to do with myself, others and God. Sin is separation. It doesn't allow us to live the deepest desires we have - to be happy - to be blessed. Renew My Church Last Monday the representatives of our parish met with the representatives of the other three parish-es. We spoke about the proposals given to us by the Archdiocese. Most of us were not too excited about them. We came out with two alternatives:

1. A stronger collaboration between the Mission, St. Thomas, St. Theresa and St. Colette, leave the grouping and join the Arlington Heights grouping. 2. Unite with and work on the collaboration between St. Thomas and St. Theresa Schools. They invited us to join and explore this possibility.

None of us were happy to keep things the way they are. We all recognize that things need to change. Change is just a part of life. If you have any suggestions and/or opinions, please let us know. Our team reads everything that our pa-rishioners send us.

Peace and goodness,

Rev. Michal Lewon Pastor

Paz y bondad,

Rev. Michal Lewon Pastor

April 11th - Saint Stanislaus - d. 1079 Born in Szczepanow near Kraków on July 26, 1030, he was ordained a priest after being educated in the cathedral schools of Gniezno, then capital of Poland, and at Paris. He was appointed preacher and archdeacon to the bishop of Kraków, where his eloquence and example brought about real conversion in many of his penitents, both clergy and laity. He became bishop of Kraków in 1072. During an expedition against the Grand Duchy of Kiev, Stanislaus became involved in the political situation of Poland. Known for his outspokenness, he aimed his attacks at the evils of the peasantry and the king, especially the unjust wars and immoral acts of King Boleslaus II. The king first excused himself, then made a show of penance, then re-lapsed into his old ways. Stanislaus continued his open opposition in spite of charges of treason and threats of death, finally excommunicating the king. Enraged, the latter ordered soldiers to kill the bishop. When they re-fused, the king killed Stanislaus with his own hands." April 12th - Saint Teresa of Los Andes - d. 1920 "As a young girl growing up in the early 1900’s in Santia-go, Chile, Juana Fernandez read an autobiography of a French-born saint—Thérèse, popularly known as the Lit-tle Flower. The experience deepened her desire to serve God and clarified the path she would follow. At age 19 Juana became a Carmelite nun, taking the name of Teresa. The convent offered the simple lifestyle Teresa desired and the joy of living in a community of women complete-ly devoted to God. She focused her days on prayer and sacrifice. 'I am God’s,' she wrote in her diary. 'He created me and is my beginning and my end.' Toward the end of her short life, Teresa began an apostolate of letter-writing, sharing her thoughts on the spiritual life with many peo-ple. At age 20 she contracted typhus and quickly took her final vows. She died a short time later, during Holy Week."

April 13th - Saint Martin I - d. 655 "When Martin I became pope in 649, Constantinople was the capital of the Byzantine empire and the patriarch of Constantinople was the most influential Church leader in the eastern Christian world. The struggles that existed within the Church at that time were magnified by the close cooperation of emperor and patriarch. A teaching, strong-ly supported in the East, held that Christ had no human will. Twice, emperors had officially favored this position: Heraclius by publishing a formula of faith, and Constans II by silencing the issue of one or two wills in Christ. Shortly after assuming the office of the papacy–which he did without first being confirmed by the emperor–Martin held a council at the Lateran in which the imperial docu-ments were censured, and in which the patriarch of Con-stantinople and two of his predecessors were condemned. In response, Constans II first tried to turn bishops and people against the pope. Failing in this and in an attempt to kill the pope, the emperor sent troops to Rome to seize Martin and to bring him back to Constantinople. Already in poor health, Martin offered no resistance, returned with Calliopas, the exarch of Constantinople, and was then submitted to various imprisonments, tortures, and hard-ships. Although condemned to death and with some of the imposed torture already carried out, Martin was saved from execution by the pleas of a repentant Paul, patriarch of Constantinople, who was himself gravely ill. Tortures and cruel treatment having taken their toll, Martin died shortly thereafter. He is the last of the early popes to be venerated as a martyr."

PADS – Love in Action That’s right St. Colette’s will be hosting PADS this summer. Each Saturday evening through Sun-day Morning we will answer the call to sanctuary by offering a home cooked dinner, hot breakfast and a sack lunch for those challenged with hous-ing. Halpin Hall will be a place of happiness and peace. The number of full-time guests on the PAD’s register has almost doubled in size in the past year and includes 6 families. Those are in-credibly difficult numbers to swallow. The PADs Ministry needs your help and support! It is because of you that we will be able to provide relief from the heat for our area’s growing home-less population. For more information please email [email protected] or attend the St Co-lette orientation on Monday April 9 at 7pm in Halpin Hall. Training for PADS can be taken on the following days at Journeys-The Road Home

Thank You for your Generosity

The St. Colette PADS Ministry

Over the next few weeks we will be familiarizing you with our ministry, Spirited Hearts. You may have seen our mem-bers providing service to our community by serving refresh-ments at Northwest Concert Band performances, serving the community at the Rolling Meadows Spaghetti Supper hosted by the Fire Department, and know of our collection box in the vestibule to serve those with cancer at Phil’s Friends. Our group goes several times a year to pack these items and deco-rate the boxes for delivery. We were there yesterday, on Sat-urday March 24. Some of the less visible projects, have been helping at the annual Clearbrook Fun Fest for those with significant disabil-ities, shopping and assembling Easter Baskets for needy kids in Palatine township, and cleaning up the gardens around the parish property. We are an Ecumenical Ministry for young adults with ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorder). Our group began in October of 2016 and we are continually growing at a slow but steady pace. We accept any person regardless of their religious af-filiation. Our group meets twice a month to gather for Spiritual and emotional support. Each meeting begins with a prayer or re-flection, group discussion, and moves to planning service projects and social outings. All activities are directed by the members. Our logo is symbolic of two different themes. The first heart is symbolic of each member’s unique gifts, the second is their power in working together to share those gifts, and the third heart signifies Jesus’s Hand in guiding their mission. The second theme of the 3 hearts is a representation of the group’s purpose. First, is to provide Spiritual enrichment; second, is to provide service to others; and the third, is to pro-vide social relationships and community. Our group sponsors ongoing community education of various behavioral health topics, such as Autism Awareness, for which we will have a representative from Autism Speaks in April and a Clinical Counselor to speak on Anger Manage-ment in May. Please watch for more information in the next bulletin to out-line two new phases of our ministry. Peace, Donna Chmielewski and Linda Kincl

St Colette Annual Catholic Appeal Update

Dear St Colette Parishioners, As you know, we recently participated in the Annu-al Catholic Appeal campaign of the Archdiocese. Your prayerful generosity has been amazing. Our parish was given a pledge goal of $40,717, which is based on the parish’s annual offertory contribu-tions. Although processing through the company handling the campaign is still in process, based on the receipts that the parish has recorded, St Colette is at a total approaching $48,000. This is truly won-derful and gives witness to the Christian faith of St Colette parish and its willingness to serve others. And, remember that the amount of pledges re-ceived above our parish goal comes back to the par-ish at 100%. A most sincere “THANK YOU” to all of you who have answered the Cardinal’s request to support Catholic education, faith formation, community life ministries, and programs for peace and justice, and St Colette. If you would like to still contribute, please visit the ACA website at: https://giving.archchicago.org/annual-catholic-appeal/about-us

A Prayer For “Renew My Church” Lord Jesus, you speak to us today, as you spoke to holy men and women who have gone before us. In every age and in our own time, you call to us and say: Renew My Church. Pour out the gift of your Holy Spirit upon us, and so enable us to hear you clearly, to listen to each other at-tentively, to imagine our future boldly, to discern your di-rection wisely, to persevere in your holy will courageously, to stay together in charity, to surrender our own plans read-ily, to embrace the greater good, to hand on your gifts to future generations. May we remain in the holy company of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the apostles, and all the saints. May their example and presence inspire us with patient confidence in the work of your grace. We ask this of you who live and reign with the Father in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen Next English language Townhall Meeting will be on April 16th at 7PM. Please be there.

Divine Mercy Sunday On the Sunday after Easter, the entire Church throughout the world is called to gather to celebrate Divine Mercy Sunday. Pope John Paul established this special celebration of God’s mercy on the day in the year 2000 he canonized Sister Mary Faustina of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy. Sr. Faustina had been blessed with apparitions of Jesus who showed himself to her in a special way as “Divine Mercy”. According to her diary, the Sunday after Easter, or the “Octave Sunday” of the Easter celebration was to be a special day of invitation to approach Jesus with great trust and expectant faith. The upcoming Easter celebration allows us to focus on performing works of mercy, and spending more time in prayer. Praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet and the Novena to the Divine Mercy are helpful ways of doing so. Here at St. Colette we will celebrate Divine Mercy Sunday beginning at 2:45 p.m. on Sunday, April 8. The service will include, Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, Benediction and the Divine Mercy Chaplet. Sr. Faustina would regularly celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation the Saturday before this Sunday. Reconciliation is available every Saturday at 9:00 a.m.

Welcome to Online Giving!

Introducing...GiveCentral!

St. Colette Parish has begun accepting online donations through GiveCentral, our new online

donation service. GiveCentral is a safe, secure, and paperless way to make your Sunday offertory and

other contributions.

It was designed specifically for Catholic churches and schools in the Chicago area, and many other par-ishes in our Diocese have already found success with

it. The site allows you to make a one time or auto-matically repeating payments on a schedule that

works best for you, using any credit card, debit card or electronic bank account.

We believe that having a flexible online giving option will make it easier for many of you

to support St. Colette. Visit our website at www.stcolette.org and click on

the “GiveCentral” link or go to www.GiveCentral.org

and take a couple minutes to set up your donations. Questions? Please call the Parish Office

at 847-394-8100.
