Nitrogen is often referred to as the “5th utility”, next to water, electricity gas and compressed air. So for many companies, on-site nitrogen is the most cost-efficient and most practical way to have a reliable supply of nitrogen.

Compressor systems, pipe lines and reactors are purged with nitrogen to avoid the risk of ex-plosions or fire.
Nitrogen is also used during drilling for oil and gas.

Nitrogen is used in lead-free soldering of the circuit boards or other very small components to prevent oxidation. Inerting with nitrogen improves the joint integrity.
Fire Prevention
Maximum Oxygen Concentra-
tion (MOC) is the concentration at which a substance can no longer burn. Reducing the ox-ygen concentration below MOC prevents explosion and fire. (The MOC level depends on the substance.)

High-purity nitrogen is used as a carrier gas in for example gas chromatography instruments. But it is also used for chemical analysis, spectrometers and thermal analyzers.

Food & Beverage Packa-ging
Because of its inert, colorless and odorless characteristics, it is used to displace or replace the air to reduce the risk of deterioration of the properties of the end product.
In fruit juices for example the oxidation of vitamin C is perhaps one of the most decisive factors. The use of nitrogen in tanks,
containers, pipes and bottles prevents this oxidation from taking place. To remove the oxygen dissolved in the juice, nitrogen is passed through the liquid, forming bubbles who carry the oxygen, which is then extracted from the juice.
NG (Nitrogen Generator) application blanketing
In wine making industry, nitrogen is used to prevent oxidation which allows to use of less additives. Also the acidity, color, aromas and natural flavor of the wine will be well conserved. The use of nitrogen will allow a longer storage time without alteration of the primary quality of the wine.
Nitrogen is practically insoluble in water and therefore is ideal to transfer the wine. To ensure maximum hygiene the bottles are washed and dried with nitrogen before filling. The drying goes faster than with normal air because the production process of the on site nitrogen generator makes it a very dry gas.
And finally the bottle, after filling and before placing the cork, is purged with nitrogen to avoid the presence of residual air in the neck of the bottle.

What is oxygen used for?Oxygen is vital to processes in the both industrial and medical applications.
Oxygen is used in many Chemical Processes like for example bleaching of pulp and paper.
In the Glass Industry, oxygen reduces the production cost because an increased oxygen level improves the burning process and safes a massive amount of fuel. Additional the emission of waste gasses like CO2 and Nitrous Oxide can be reduced by 75%. And as already known, the importance and the financial impact of reducing carbon footprint as companies have to pay for their emission of greenhouse gasses.
For waste water Treatment: injecting oxygen into your treatment basin dramatically increases bacteriological survival and regeneration. The consistent, level demand of injected oxygen makes PSA- generated O2 ideal to keep the plant operating and capital costs down. A simple, reliable oxygen generator will provide years of O2 production, without the ongoing expense and hassle of delivered cryogenically produced oxygen.
For Ozone Generation. An oxygen generator uses compressed air to make oxygen; an Ozone generator uses oxygen to produce Ozone.
For medical Grade breathing oxygen which is used in ambulances and hospitals. Many countries have followed the lead of the FDA (and USP) by setting the required O2 purity at 93% as acceptable purity level for any patient. Since last year 93% oxygen is now defined as an official medicine in the European Pharmacopeia.
For most of the applications the purity of oxygen varies from 90 to 95% And PSA or pressure swing adsorption is the dominant technology to produce it on site from compressed air.

Helium Hydrogen Methane & Bio methane
Helium is a colorless, odorless, tasteless and non-toxic inert gas. Traces of helium are present
in ambient air (0.000525% only). On an industrial scale, it is extracted from helium-rich natural gas using low temperature liquefaction. Being a rare and non-renewable gas, helium is widely recovered through fractional distillation columns. High purity is required in many applications. Our compressors with pressure-tight crankcases avoid any contamination with ambient air. The five compression stages ensure moderate compression temperatures thus reducing contam-ination with lubricated oil.
Hydrogen is a colorless, odorless and non-toxic gas. It is the lightest and simplest of all gases and is very abundant. It is a reactive gas and enters into chemical combination with many other gases or elements. It is also the gas with the most energy-dense fuel properties per mass. Hydrogen can be produced as gas or liquid. It is produced either from fossil fuels (coal, methane, biomass, natural gas) through the processes of steam reforming and gasification; or through water electrolysis or thermochemical water splitting. Many new devel-opments around hydrogen make it a gas with great opportunities for the future.
Numerous countries are involved in the development of bio methane (renewable energy) for reinjection and distribution. When upgraded to gas network specifications, methane/bio methane can be injected in the gas grid for use by customers. Another widespread application for the gas is fuel for cars, buses and truck refueling stations. Atlas Copco has an extensive experience in the supply of high-pressure compressors and CNG stations for these applica-tions.

tsuka Pharmaceutical was established in Tokushima Prefecture, Japan in 1964.
With core Business in pharmaceutical industries, Otsuka is providing breakthrough treatments for patients around the world through its branches.
Egypt Otsuka has chosen Atlas Copco Egypt as a business partner for their journey of success since 2000 when installing their first oil free compressor ZT 110, in 2002 they added a second compressor ZT 132 and the latest ZT 200 joined their production in 2008.
In june 2013, Egypt Otsuka and Atlas Copco Egypt decided to take a further step to enhance the compressors reliability and minimize downtimes through signing a service contract for the 3 compressors, where Atlas Copco Egypt should be responsible for the periodic maintenance activities.
On 28th August 2013, Atlas Copco Egypt had to perform a complete overhaul for the ZT 132 as it reached the overhauling due time and was planned to finish the overhaul as quickly as possible within 10 working days as the plant will be running on the other 2 compressors with no stand by.
Unfortunately, at the beginning of the overhaul, The other Compressor ZT 200 experienced a sudden motor failure and the compressor was stopped leading to a whole plant stoppage leaving behind: 700 workers out of work, delayed production and states contract with ministry of health being in risk of cancelation.
Atlas Copco Egypt feeling the urgent situation was having two options:
» Fix the ZT 200 Motor ASAP.
» Finalize ZT 132 Overhaul to be working.
Both motors were sent to ABB, ZT 200 for inspection and ZT 132 for overhauling.
Shortening the overhaul period was the closest solution as the ZT 200 Motor repaid will require 20 working days. So the plan was set to minimize the overhaul time as below:
» Assigning Extra Technicians and service Engineers for the overhaul job to be working continuously after working hours.
» Coordination with ABB to service the electric motor.
» Send electric specialist to inspect all electric circuit of ZT 132 to ensure it is trouble free, when it is ready for commission.
By 29th August night the main overhaul work was done and by 30th morning the compressor was running back to operation and the whole plant was back to work and production!!
SPM Bearing monitoring system was discussed to be mounted on the motor’s bearings for protection to be monitoring bearing condition, moving Egypt Otsuka maintenance program a further step towards Condition Monitoring Techniques.

controls and accessories for one of the biggest projects in EGYPT with total value 1.9 MUSD ENPPI - ETHYDCO The project is managed by ENPPI, an engineering company under the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum, and is owned by ETHYDCO (The Egyptian Ethylene and Derivatives Company) The aim is to build a 460,000 T/Y ethylene plant and a 20,000 T/Y butadiene extraction plant as part of Ethydco’s petrochemical complex to be established in Alexandria, The contract’s value is approximately $600 million and the plant is scheduled for start-up in early 2015.

El-Drieny Group is one of Atlas Copco Egypt’s most promising local distributors. Since 2006, El-Drieny is the only agent in the Delta area. Their showroom is located in the “Mahala”, which is
considered to be the center point of the Delta area as well as the biggest and most famous area for textile and garment manufacturing.
The cooperation started off with El-Drieny Group focusing on our oil-injected screw compressors below 30 kW. When Atlas Copco introduced the grey Automan series in 2012, we reached an agreement with El-Drieny Group and started our cooperation in marketing the Automan Compressors in his area. In July 2012, El-Drieny placed his first order for 2 containers and ever since, they frequently order more.
In February, 2013 , El-Drieny participated in “Egy Stitch & Tex - The 4th International Exhibition For Textile, Weaving, Spinning,Sewing, Dyeing & Finishing Machinery & their Accessories” in Cairo.

A training session by Roel van den Heuvel - the Product Manager from Airpower who visited Egypt specially to set a customer seminar on the last exhibition day 25th Nov,2012– which inspired the Egyptian sales force and distributors to bring the advantages of the on-site industrial gas to our customers & to be more familiar with our portofolio of the Industrial Gas Generators. The customer seminar timing was perfectly scheduled to be executed during the trade show as the customers had the chance not only to listen and learn about N2/O2 generators but also got a practical session on the
displayed products at the booth where the visitors are classified into groups and our sales team together with Roel managed the sessions on all the other industrial air products on display.
