NEW FLOORING UPDATE
After receiving very generous donations above and beyond expecta-tions, we are moving forward with the planning for our new flooring.
We are presently looking at flooring for the hallway, Music Room, Kitchen and Founders Hall and trying to maximize use of the funds received. We have had an interior decorator and a flooring supplier
visit our church and provide recommendations. Some samples are in the office and others are on the way to assist in making the material and color selections. Based on Board of Ministries input, we are also
looking into costs for painting the areas to receive new flooring to avoid future painting over our new flooring. We anticipate progressing with the work in a phased manner to minimize disruption. Volunteers
for this planning process are still welcome.

When someone you love is seriously ill, it affects the entire family, as well as their entire circle of friends. Providing constant emotional support and physical care can be exhausting. The cost of extensive and even experimental medical treatment, not to mention transportation costs when a loved one lives out of town, can quickly add up. Our dear Atonement daughter and friend, Barb Macholz Grimaldi, has struggled with cancer for several years. Her current treatment involves periodic travel to a neighboring city. Barb’s husband Matt has been steadfast in his support and care, and her parents,
Bishop John and Lin Macholz, are with her in her home in Philadelphia much of the time now. Their medical and travel bills are mounting, the exhaustion is ever-present. It is their faith in God that has carried them this far, and knowing that all of their friends at Atonement and beyond are with them in spirit. It is time for us to help! We invite you to join us for a tantalizing dessert buffet, an array of delightful silent auction items and other activities, all to raise funds for the Hearts & Hands for Barb Fund. Proceeds will be given to Barb and Matt to help offset their expenses related to Barb’s medical care.

BRIGHTON CHURCHES HABITAT COALITION
We’re building again! If you are looking for an opportunity to hammer some nails, paint walls, or do a little demolition, the time has come to pitch in on our Coalition’s remodel of 39 Love Street. This project is the 7th house on which we have partnered with Flower City Habitat for Humanity. All volunteer sign ups are done online at: give.rochesterhabitat.org/ge/brighton2019 Full day or 1/2 day shifts are available. To view available shifts, click the green volunteer button, select the shift that interests you, and fill out the contact information. Note the address of the meet up location; do not go directly to Love Street. Sign in and orientation take place at the meet up address. Details and FAQs can be found at the above site. Atonement Lutheran Church has a strong history of participating in the previous 6 builds. We have contributed financially to the Coalition and supported the builds with a strong volunteer force. Let’s continue to carry on! See Bob Touhsaent or Barb Sanko if you have questions.
MORNING PRAYER Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at 9:00 a.m.
In the Prayer Room “….it is the quiet prayerful space of the early morning that enables us to be better attuned to God’s particular call for us each day….For, as we are constantly reminded by spiritual writers: There’s always music amongst the trees in the garden, but our hearts must be very quiet to hear it.” Robert J. Wicks. Snow Falling on Snow. Join us for a half hour or so of quiet prayer, meditation and reflection as we continue our Lenten journey together.

OPUS 3 TURNS 30!
On April 23rd 1989 Atonement Lutheran Church dedicated a new pipe organ built by Parsons Pipe Organ Builders of Canandaigua New York. In 1982 congregation began to craft a vision for the future while marking the congregation’s 25th anniversary. From that visioning process came the dream of replacing an ageing Allen Electronic organ. In 1985 the Church Council appointed a committee that, under the able leadership of Janis Manthey and Organist Dr. John Hanson, undertook the task of selecting a replacement instrument with thoughtful and methodical rigor. The results of their research lead to the selection of Parsons Pipe Organ Builders to build a new organ. At the time of its dedication the organ, designated Opus 3 as the third complete organ built by Parsons, represented the largest and most technically complex organ Parsons had built. Since its dedication Opus 3 has ably lead congregational song, accompanied the choir, played cooperatively with instrumentalists and performed repertoire selected from 500 years of organ literature. With continued good maintenance and care the organ will continue to serve this congregation for at least another 30 years if not more. To celebrate the organs 30 years of service Director of Music Ministries, Joshua Brown, will offer prelude music on Sunday April 21 selected from the music performed at the April 23, 1989 Organ Dedication service. Then on Sunday May 5 he will perform pieces selected from the May 6, 1989 dedication recital. In the dedication service bulletin former Atonement organist Dr. John
Hanson wrote “I pray that God will richly bless this congregation as it
praises and proclaims His Holy Word.” Blessed be God who has
answered his prayerheard our songs of praise and proclamation. Thanks
be to God for inspiring the vision, commitment and dedication of those
that turned a dream into a reality. Glory be to God alone for giving us
“faith to sing always” the acclamations of our “hearts and hands and
voices”
