F R O M T H E P A S T O R rsquo S D E S K The beautiful solemnity of the Assumption marks a poignant truth of our faith that at the completion of her earthly life Mary was assumed into heaven body and soul This blessed act of God is both a pattern and an honor an invitation and a grace While I could spend time expanding on this truth of how Mary leads us into heaven what strikes me anew this year is Maryrsquos expansive maternal tenderness While caring for her own child her motherly heart was drawn to minister to Elizabeth another mother in need of care This grace outlined in the mystery of the visitation is made explicitly ours in the mystery of the assumption Where during her earthly life her motherhood drew her to care for Elizabeth now that she resides in heaven her maternal care is ever expanded in both reach and depth Instead of traveling to the hill country in haste she now responds with grace to every moment and place
