STAFF A MESSAGE FROM PASTOR MATT

Friends in Christ, The journey continues. Walk around Crown of Glory right now and you see a building in radical transformation. Most of the time, we talk of lives in transformation, reformation, change and the likes, but for this season, this year in fact, transformation is more visible than usual. The old is passing away before our eyes and new space, better suited to our needs and our community life, is at hand. Thanks so much for the ongoing support. Special over and above gifts are a blessing, and the regular support is really appreciated. Thanks for not only being adaptable, but for the pioneer spirit. On weekends, I see people walking into our spaces with an openness to whatever is needed and a delight in what is emerging. Yes, two of the main pillars in the sanctuary are now history, and the feeling of openness in the center of the sanctuary is terrific. Our preschool is close to relocating into the finished rooms in our main historic building so that we can construct the new parish hall. The floor of the new education building is close to happening. If you can spare a day or three of vacation time to work alongside our mission builders, now is a good time! The love of Christ is made visible to the community! That's who we are. So come enjoy; show you friends and neighbors a new thing is happening, and soon there will be space for so much more. Thanks be to God! This fall, after much deliberation by council and staff, our worship schedule will be Saturday Worship at 5:00 p.m., Sundays at 8:00, 9:15 and 10:30 a.m. The sanctuary isn't much larger yet, so we hope this gives us the growth headroom we need and that it spreads out our Sunday School attendance a little better. Come enjoy and spread the news. Shalom, Pastor Matt Bersagel

A MESSAGE FROM TRACIE PETERSON - NYG ADULT LEADER National Youth Gathering Adult Leaders Share’s Detroit Experience Thank you so much for the opportunity to travel with these 12 youth and young adults to Detroit for the Gathering. One challenge I always put out to those traveling with me on trips is, "Where did you see God today?". The challenge of stepping back and taking notice as to where God is in our lives is often something we forget to do. On a trip like this, there are some really easy but very valid answers. Until you have walked into one of these stadiums and seen 30,000 people worshiping together, words cannot describe the experience. God moved through the music as we all sang and danced, whether it was Rachel Kurtz telling us that we can "make a difference," the house band sharing their own version of Uptown Funk, Skillet's testimony or hearing Motown sung by some of the original members of The Temptations! There was no missing the Spirit moving. The speakers wowed us with wisdom! Eric Barrett reminded us that "God does not make generic people." Alexia Salvatierra shared her experience working with the immigration system and told us, "A burden shared is a burden lightened." Veronica Scott challenged us to, "Do something now. Don't wait. You never know whose life you will change.” Marian Wright Edelman of the Children's Defense Fund reminded us that, "Often we don't have a money problem, we have a priority problem." It was heartwarming to me when I started to hear the youths’ answers take a different turn. God was seen in Erik, the concierge, as he went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed and our stay was more than smooth. God was seen in the young adult who opened the bakery 30 minutes early because we were looking for a place to have coffee. These youth saw God in the homeless man who drew my portrait and gave it to us,

free of charge because, "God gave me this talent. I have to share it.” God was also seen in the man who pulled his car over to the side of the road to thank us for helping to clean up his neighborhood. God was seen in the woman with the 4 kids who was speechless as she watched people she didn't know put more detail into cleaning off the sidewalk than she ever dreamed possible. The ordinary people, doing what could be just ordinary things, but making an extraordinary impression on us. As a congregation, it is important to know the light of Christ shined brightly through the representatives you sent to Detroit. I saw God's love in Giselle and Emily as they danced arm-in-arm during the Synod worship. God's love shone through Adam and Julia as they hauled brush and garbage from the alleys to the curb to be picked up. Chris spent way more time than I would have cleaning up what I could only guess was a rotted garbage bag full of dog droppings. Hanna and Haley stepped out of their comfort zones to sing, dance, laugh and share worship with groups from Texas and Mankato, even though, I know they were so tired. I saw God's love in Maddie - her cheerful smile and encouraging words came at just the right time so many times. The way David and Nathan would interact - two brothers, looking out for each other yet being brothers, reminded me how proud I was to be a part of this family. God's love shone through Sam as he challenged people and asked questions during devotions, yet accepted people and where they were at in their faith - no matter what the response. God's love shone through Kristen in her honesty and willingness to step out in faith, especially by leading Bible study and making sure we got to where we needed to go. She is going to be an amazing teacher. This opportunity/assignment to keep an eye out for God all week helped us to focus on seeing the best in everyone - to see the good in each person. We took the chance to Rise Up, build bridges, break chains, bear burdens, and Detroit is a changed place because of it. What would it look like if, as a congregation, we took that challenge seriously and looked for God in everything we did! If we as a congregation could rise up together, get past the negativity that fills the news, the internet, and so much of our thoughts. I have seen the difference it can make. I hope someday you can too!
