    SYNDICATE NEWS

    Middle News-

This year the Middles have been writing to pen pals from Waikari and Outram Schools. We have enjoyedexchanging letters, and this week Rooms 3 and 5 travelled to Outram to meet our pen pals. Many children weresurprised at how much they had in common, we enjoyed a couple of technology challenges, games, and a sharedlunch with our new friends. We also spent some time learning about the significant things the student leaders doand we are excitedly planning our inquiry around doing something significant in our own school.

We will be swimming for the next two weeks with Jill Clarke from Monday to Thursday. Children will beresponsible for remembering to bring their togs and their towels each day. Parents are welcome to come andwatch quietly.

    Junior News

We are all consumed by our Planet Earth and Beyond SPACEinquiry as we zoom around the planets

and explore all there is to know about space. The total enthusiasm of everyone is wonderful to see as we findout answers to our wonderings and find out how the solar system affects the world we live it. I am sure thisthirst for knowledge will have shown itself at home as the children share what they are learning. Pop in and seewhat we have all been doing.PMPwe have 2 weeks more of PMP and we seem to be struggling some days to have enough support. Pleasepop along and help your childs class if you are free. Each class is busy making something for the school fairfor you lucky parents/ grandparents to buy. Thank

you in advance for your support. It is great to see our value of INDEPENDENCE working well as children become responsible for their ownbelongings and unpacking and packing their own bags. Of course this independence transfers across intobecoming independent learners within the classroom and this is exciting to see.

Happy learning, we do appreciate all the support you give your child every day.

    Senior News

The senior classes have had a lot of enjoyment from their learning activities that are based in World War 1. They have

continued to explore their thinking through reading and writing letters, journal entries, reports and descriptions. A rangeof resources including music, images and the picture books and novels we have sourced through our school library andThe National Library Service have been a great help.

We have started our syndicate swaps with each teacher taking an area of The Arts to further help the learning. The

teachers are enjoying working with different children in the areas of: Drama (Tony Reid), Dance (Linda Martin), VisualArt (Shane Melrose) and Music (Jill Kumar). The children are also looking forward to these opportunities to work with

different teachers. The lessons are all focused on World War 1.

On Monday we went to the Kings High School Arts Centre to see a drama created by CapitalE. It was highly engaging

and very cleverly acted. While it was full of facts, its strongest aspect was that it showed the different viewpoints that

groups of people held during World War 1. It was a powerful production.

Next week we are looking forward to going to Toitu to work with their Education Officer Sara Sinclair. There is a huge

display there and a new education programme has been developed.
