Christian Stewardship: A Way of Life "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him." We have the same words in the Gospel according to Matthew and in the 2 nd letter of St. Peter. What St. Matthew passed to the early Church, St. Peter reinforced with his statement that Jesus Christ is the beloved Son of God. Last Sunday we were invited to choose Jesus Christ as our most precious pearl. This Sunday the message is proved by the Transfiguration of the Lord. Christ is most important for us. As a beloved Son, He gathers us together to present His Church to God. You, as a person, are witnessing not only the Transfiguration, but you are presented to God by our Savior. Being involved in it, you received a mission to testify about it. This testimony is called stewardship. When the Apostles saw Christ with Moses and Elijah, Jesus told them not to tell anybody about it until a certain time. We are told to tell everybody about itYou will do well to be attentive to it, as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.” LIVING ROSARY Pax Christi will start a living rosary on Sunday, September 17 th after the 10:30 a.m. Mass. The Rosary will continue each month on the 3 rd Sunday. Each person who joins will be assigned a specific mystery and intention for the following month and will pray one decade of the Rosary every day during that month. When we meet on the 3rd Sunday after the 10:30 Mass, we exchange prayer cards with the mysteries and intentions. You do not have to meet anyone daily, you pray individually any time of the day at your own convenience. While praying and meditating your assigned decade each day of every month, Our Blessed Mother Mary is leading you slowly to Her Son Jesus. With completion of the 20 months, you will start over from the beginning, which is why it’s called Our Lady’s Living Rosary. Each group of 20 is called a rose. Remember: When it is your turn to pray the First Decade of each Mystery of the Rosary, you will also say the prayers that begin the Rosary: the Apostles Creed, the Our Father, three Hail Marys, a Glory Be, and the Fatima Prayer. When it is your turn to pray the Fifth Decade of each Mystery of the Rosary, you will say the ending prayer: Hail, Holy Queen. If, however, you forget to pray your decade of the Rosary on a day, please pray it twice the following day. This way you will have completed the Rosary which was not completed the day before. If you have your own intentions, pray the decade again. Please contact Bernadette at 303-506-0917 or [email protected] if you wish to participate or have any questions.

Christian Stewardship: A Way of Life

"This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him." We have the same words in the Gospel according to Matthew and in the 2nd letter of St. Peter. What St. Matthew passed to the early Church, St. Peter reinforced with his statement that Jesus Christ is the beloved Son of God.

Being involved in it, you received a mission to testify about it. This testimony is called stewardship. When the Apostles saw Christ with Moses and Elijah, Jesus told them not to tell anybody about it until a certain time. We are told to tell everybody about it—“You will do well to be attentive to it, as to a

lamp shining in a dark place, until day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.”

Registration is now open

Setting the World Ablaze---St. Catherine of Siena

Saint Catherine of Siena presents an unforgettable saint’s story that transports us to another era even as it speaks to our modern hearts. As a beloved daughter of the Church, St. Catherine is one of only four female Doctors of the Church; she is a mystic, a reformer, an advisor to popes, a lover of the poor, and a fabulous teacher. Sit at her feet and listen to the wisdom from her most famous book, The Dialogue, in which she converses with God. We meet on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Wednesdays

of the month from 9:45-11:45 a.m. starting August 16, 2017 through April 18, 2018. Cost is $29.95 for materials.

Babysitting is available. Register at https://store.endowonline.org/sharon-post-p3710.aspx.

Discover Your Dignity---A Woman’s Journey Through Life, Part 1

This is the first of a two-part series which invites women to ponder how the hectic reality of our life, with its obligations, home and work demands, and relationship issues, intersects with the Divine reality. In reading this study, authored by four Religious Sisters of Mercy, we will explore how God has a plan for a woman’s development that includes her body, soul, mind, and spirit. Part I begins in the blessed quiet of the womb at the miracle of conception and travels through childhood, adolescence and into early mid-life. We meet the 1st, 3rd and 5th Wednesdays of the month from 6:30-8:30 p.m. starting

August 16, 2017 through April 18, 2018. Cost is $29.95. Register at https://store.endowonline.org/sharon-post-p3711.aspx.

We are excited to begin planning for our upcoming year, with our new theme of Free Indeed. What do you long for? What is the thing that your heart craves? Is it possible that your deepest desire is to be free?

∗ Free from worry. ∗ Free from feeling stuck. ∗ Free from hustling to be loved. ∗ Free from a heaviness you can’t put your finger on. ∗ Free from thinking you should be someone other than

exactly who you are. ∗ At the core, maybe what we are all longing for is to

be Free Indeed.

Please Save these Dates. We'd Love to See You!

Respect For Life

Heavenly Father, in Your love for us, protect against the wickedness of the devil, those helpless little ones to whom You have given the gift of life.

Touch with pity the hearts of those women pregnant in our world today who are not thinking of motherhood.

Help them to see that the child they carry is made in Your image, as well as theirs, made for eternal life.

Dispel their fear of selfishness and give them true womanly hearts to love their babies and give them birth and all the needed care that a mother can give.

We ask this through Jesus Christ, Your Son, Our Lord Who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, One God, forever and ever.

Amen.

Volunteers Needed to Improve Safety at Church

Are you or have you been a doctor, nurse, EMT or

firefighter? If so, Pax Christi needs your help!

Should a medical emergency arise at Pax Christi, we currently do not have an identified team to assist before, during or after Masses. This is where those with the above-mentioned experience can assist.

Initially, Pax Christi is looking for volunteers to create an accident and medical emergency action plan. We need help to identify who would qualify as a volunteer with this team and what training should be provided to them.

If you’re willing to assist with the creation of this plan, con-tact Fr Marek at [email protected] or (720) 419-0122. Thank you for stepping up to help with this much-needed plan for Pax Christi. God Bless!

Our school needs substitute teachers

for the upcoming school year.

If this is something you are interested in and have teaching experience, please follow the link to fill out an application at http://ucsdcs.org/employment/application-process.

Faith Formation

The Transfiguration of the Lord -4- August 6, 2017

If You’ve Been Coming To Mass For Awhile, But Are Not Catholic…

We invite you to take a deeper look at the Catholic faith. Come meet some faithful Catholics who love the Lord and would consider it a privilege to get to know you. Our parish will soon begin a set of sessions, called INQUIRY, to share with others the truths of the Catholic faith. We invite you to learn what Catholics believe in an open and welcoming environment. These sessions also are opportunities for you to ask those perplexing and difficult questions you may have about the Church. These gatherings are for inquirers and are open to people who are unbaptized, as well as those who are baptized Christians from Protestant or Evangelical backgrounds, or baptized Catholic adults who have not received their First Communion or Confirmation.

INQUIRY sessions will be held on Tuesday evenings throughout the month of August. The first session is August 1st from 6:30 – 7:30pm. Feel free to come to any, or all, of the sessions! Please give me a call or email me if you have questions or would like additional information: Ginger Giesen, Director of Discipleship, 720-419-0126, [email protected].

Catechism Study: A Deeper Journey Into the Catholic Faith

The Catechism of the Catholic Church was given to us by Pope St. John Paul II in 1992, and has been in his words, “a sure norm for teaching the faith”. This study will give you a greater understanding and knowledge of our beautiful Catholic Faith, deepen your love for Jesus Christ and His Church, and move you toward a more intentional and fruitful living of the Faith as His disciple.

It meets weekly on Monday mornings 9:45-11:30 a.m. and Wednesday evenings 6:30-8:15 p.m., beginning September 11th and 13th (same class). This year, we will walk through each of the paragraphs and many of the footnotes in the first section (Pillar I), The Profession of Faith, studying the 12 articles of the Apostles’ Creed in 30 classes, ending on May 14th and 16th.

For more information or to register, contact Roberta Marsh [email protected] or 720-419-0127.

“. . . that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you . . . may have strength to comprehend . . . and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge . . .”—Ephesians 3:17-19

GIFT Faith Formation/Sacrament Preparation

GIFT is a family-based weekly program taught by parents to their children at home with monthly support classes at the Church for both parents and children in pre-school through grade 6. Home study-only is available for children ages 3, 4 and K (child care provided 9mos-K). First Reconciliation is received in the winter, and First Holy Communion is received in the spring for children in grades 2-3 who have at least completed the prior year of faith formation. The uniqueness and beauty of GIFT is that the entire family is engaged in learning the treasure of our Catholic Faith, which provides, along with regular reception of the sacraments, a foundation for building up the Domestic Church in the home.

For more information and to register, go to http://www.paxchristi.org/home/faith-formation/childrens-faith-formation/. The “early bird” family fee of $85.00 (no fee for Catechists) ends July 31st. Register now before your first choice fills up!

GIFT Catechists Needed! Our parish children in grades 1-6 need you to pass on our beautiful Catholic Faith. We use wonderful materials, provide great support (monthly catechist meetings), and you only teach once a month! Please take this invitation into prayer and discernment:

Five spots available—Sunday afternoon sessions from 12:30-2:30pm and

Four spots available—Monday evening session from 6:30-8:30pm.

Contact Roberta Marsh [email protected] or 720-419-0127 for more information, questions, and to sign-up!

Youth Ministry

Parish Ministries

Usher Ministry

Ushers greet people, help with the Collection and guide people to Communion. It’s a great opportunity for families to minister together. Because ushers work with youth, Safe Environment training and background checking is mandated by our Diocese.

Time commitment is one Mass per

month with training “on the job”.

Please contact Katey Dempsey at [email protected] if you have questions or are interested in volunteering.

Our Middle School group meets on Wednesdays from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. All 7th and 8th grade students are invited to attend. This group strives to form the youth as disciples of Jesus Christ, striving to glorify Him in relationships and situations in life. We form friendships in Christ through

fun games and fellowship. We deepen our faith and challenge each other through small group discussions. We encounter God through prayer and the Sacraments.

We strive to deepen our faith and incorporate it into our daily lives as disciples of Christ through engaging talks, small group discussions and prayer. Young men & women’s discipleship groups meet on Thursday nights from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. All high school aged young people are welcome!

Welcome to the Pax Christi Confirmation Program! The Sacrament of Confirmation is given to the baptized in order to more perfectly bind the Candidates to God through His Church. Through this Sacrament, your child will be enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit to be true witness-

es of Christ. Our entire Confirmation Preparation Program is structured in a way to encourage the candidates to not just go through the motions but to be open to the life changing power of the Holy Spirit as we saw in the apostles at Pentecost.

We will be having two informational parent meetings on August 17th and 18th form 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. Please only attend

one meeting.

Also, please consider volunteering to be a small group leader for these classes! This is a great opportunity to get to know the teens of Pax Christi! With small groups of six-eight students, you have the opportunity to grow in community and truly be Christ to the teens of our community throughout the year! Please call or email Chenele for more information on training.

Informational packets and media & release forms are found on the website in Youth under “CHOSEN” Please choose the

appropriate packet for your child’s grade.

Go to www.paxchristi.org and click on “Youth” for information on our programs, registration forms and schedule! If you are you interested in volunteering with youth ministry or have questions about our programs, please contact Chenele Shaw at [email protected] or 720-419-0125.

Lector Ministry

Ministers Needed! We are greatly in need of readers who are willing to proclaim God's Word at the 5:00 p.m. Mass on Saturday or Sunday. The commitment is for about one Mass per month. Training will be provided. Your prayerful consideration is much appreciated!

Please contact Jennifer DeLurgio at [email protected] if you can help.

Sacristan Ministry

Sacristans Needed!

Our mission is to assist our Presider and guide other liturgical ministers at Mass and other sacramental services. Time commitment is once or twice a monthly during a Mass and the required yearly update training.

If interested, please contact Dave or Kathy Martz at [email protected].

For more information on our ministries, go to www.paxchristi.org and click on Ministries

The Catholic Legacy Society was created to honor our legacy donors who have named their parish, Catholic school or a ministry of the Diocese of Colorado Springs as a beneficiary in their will or trust, retirement account, charitable gift annuity or charitable trust, life insurance policy, or through the establishment of an endowed fund.

The Diocese is grateful to acknowl-edge these special benefactors during their lifetimes. And, in conjunction with our mission, this special society provides an opportunity for benefac-tors to make their philanthropy a perpetual legacy for themselves and an example for their families. It also creates an infrastructure of support that makes our parishes, schools and ministries stronger, sustainable and better equipped to reach future generations.

If you have named your parish, a Catholic school or a ministry of the Diocese of Colorado Springs in your estate plan, or are considering doing so, we invite you to become a member of the Catholic Legacy Society.
