Good afternoon and welcome to The
Meadow for today’s league game against Coleshill Town.
The Ducks will be looking for back-to-back victories over teams from the Midlands today, following last Saturday’s win against Sutton Coldfield Town. United won the away tie earlier this season 1-0, courtesy of Ollie Hogg’s free kick, in a game that also saw Coleshill reduced to 10 men during the first half.
The Colemen enjoyed three consecutive wins in December, but an impressive 3-0 victory at home against Bromsgrove Sporting on New Year’s Day has been their only success in 2019 so far. Since then, there have been three losses and two
draws – the most recent of which was a 2-2 result against Berkhamsted at home last Saturday, with both goals scored by Pierce Kiembi.
Coleshill’s 3G pitch means they were insulated against the flurry of cancellations due to the wintry weather that affected last weekend’s league fixtures. While our
match also went ahead, we were not so lucky mid-week when a frozen pitch forced the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup Quarter Final against Maidenhead United to be called off. It has been rescheduled for Wednesday 13 February at The Meadow. We hope to see as many of you as possible at the game.
Up the Ducks!

About Aylesbury United
Aylesbury United was founded in
1897 when three local sides, Night School FC, The Printing Works and Aylesbury Town, decided to merge. The club, nick-named the Ducks, has experienced some incred-ible highs over its 112-year history but are now without a home ground to call their own.
United played in local leagues before joining the Spartan League in 1908 where it remained until the Second World War.
Fame and the FA Cup
Aylesbury turned semi-professional in 1976 and joined the Southern League, kicking off the club’s most successful period. In 1983 the club appointed Trevor Gould as manager, and a year later a local lad called Cliff Hercules made his debut, hanging up his boots some 20-years later smashing club records with 669 appearances and 301 goals.
Promotion to the Southern Premier was
achieved and the Ducks moved to their new Buck-ingham Road stadium. Gould’s talented squad secured the Southern League Championship in 1987-88 and were promoted to the Vauxhall Conference. That year the Ducks became the only ever non-league side to take on the full England team, as more than 6,000 packed into Buckingham Road.
Between 1985 and 1992, Aylesbury boasted the best FA Cup record of any side outside the Football League, reaching at least the first round proper every season. And in 1994-95 the club became famous for the ‘Duck Walk’ celebration as Aylesbury reached the third round, losing to Pre-mier League Queen’s Park Rangers at Loftus Road.
Ups and downs
In 1998-99 the Ducks were pipped to the Isthmian League title by Sutton United and the following season were fighting for survival on and off the pitch.
Despite defeating Foot-ball League side Reading in the Berks and Bucks Senior Cup, for the sec-ond time in four seasons, the club was relegated to Division One for the first time in their history.
But nothing was to match the low point of summer 2006. Former chairman Bill Carroll cut ties with the club he had been involved with since 1997 having failed to convert the Buckingham Road playing surface to a third generation artificial sur-face. Local businessman Graham Read took over the club, but Aylesbury was left homeless after its lease expired.
Since then the Ducks have been forced to play their ‘home’ matches out of Aylesbury while the committee work hard to keep the club alive. The campaign to ‘Bring the Ducks Home’ generated plenty of publicity, but sadly nothing concrete in terms of a new home for the club. In the interim, the teams plays home matches at neighbour Chesham United.

Today’s visitorsColeshill Town was
founded in 1894 making them one of the oldest clubs in non-league football and the oldest in Warwickshire. Until 1964 Coleshill played mostly in junior leagues, but after local rivals Coleshill Hall Hospital folded the cream of their players joined Town. Old boys include former Irish International Danny Hagen, who played in the 1972 UEFA Cup Final for Wolves, and Gary Shaw who was picked up by Aston Villa while playing for Coleshill as a 16 year-old.
In 1974 they moved to their present site Pack Meadow. Promotion to the top flight of the Combination followed in 1975 and they stayed there for more than thirty years, apart from one season in Division One. Coleshill’s greatest achievements during that time saw them as M.F.C. Premiership runners up in 1983/84 and winning the Walsall Senior Cup in 1983.
Carl Adams was appointed manager in September 2008 and
he led Coleshill to the Midland Combination Premiership title for the first time in the club’s history, clawing back a 22 point deficit and beating Highgate United to the title on goal difference on the final day of the season.
In October 2005 Coleshill were awarded Adult Standard Charter status by the FA and Junior Standard Chartered Status in 2012.
In 2012-13 the club had three managers with Paul Casey being appointed mid way through the season with the thankless task of saving the club from relegation with two games to go this task was achieved. 2013-14 was a record breaking season, finishing fourth in the Midland Football Alliance, the highest ever position in the club’s history, and he took the team to the fourth round of the FA Vase.
2014-2015 again broke records, finishing second in the newly-formed Midland Football League. Casey also took the
team to the semi-final of the Birmingham Senior Cup, only losing to Birmingham City on penalties. 2015-16 proved more difficult. With a new 3G pitch not completed until October, the Coleman spent the first two months of the season playing away from home. But the team finished in fifth and reached the fourth round of the FA Vase and third qualifying round of the FA Cup.
Casey left before the Christmas of the 2016-17 season with assistant manager Simon Lyons taking over. The club narrowly missed out on promotion and reached the semi-final of the FA Vase, losing to eventual winners South Shields. The first leg tie saw a record crowd of 3,465 at the Pack Meadow.
In 2017-18 ex-Aston Villa player Cameron Stuart took over the reins. He achieved promotion along with an appearance in the Midland Football League Cup final. The Southern League, this is the highest league the club has ever played in.
