This was caused by wide speculation that both the U.S. and China will proceed in the near future to an ease of monetary policy for the much needed growth stimulation. Brent for October delivery was $ 116.02 pb while WTI $ 98.08. This rise in fuel will most probably leak over to the food industry. U.S. consumers may pay 3% - 4% more for food next year, since processing, labor, packaging and other costs dominate the retail and restaurant prices for food, making the cost of corn less important to consumers than the price of fuel needed to transport it. In steel, Chinese producers are reluctant to hit the brake on their output in spite of softening demand. The latest data show a 1.1% increase in August throwing off expectations for a decline in volume output. Many analysts appear very confused and fear that a serious price crash is to follow.
