The Cunard Line launched its newestcargo liner, the M. V. MEDIA, first offour freighters to be constructed in a$12.5 million shipbuilding program. Thenew ships will be used in the U.S. Liver-pool service. They will have cubic ca-pacity of 420,000 feet, including 23,000cubic feet of refrigerated space. All ofthe ships will be equipped with specialfeatures for fast cargo handling.

Petty Terminal Corporation has purchased the trade name of Ship Channel Com-press Warehouse from the Sprunt Corporation and is now operating the facilitiesat the foot of 82nd Street as Petco Docks. The newest vessel to join the Lykes fleet is the S. S. MAYOLYKES, which was christened in mid-August by Mrs. HazelCasey, wife of Congressman Bob Casey of Houston. Standing atthe bow of the ship before the ceremony are, from the left,Congressman Casey, Mrs. James M. Lykes, Jr., Mrs. HazelCasey and James M. Lykes, Jr., vice president of Lykes. Thephoto below shows the big ship on the ways at Bethlehem SteelCompany’s Sparrows Point Shipyard. Tbis is the second MAYOLYKES, both of which were named in memory of Dick MayoLykes, a U. S. Navy ensign killed in action in World War I|.He was the son of one of the seven Lykes brothers whofounded the steamship cmnpany. The ship, which cost $10million is 495 feet long, with a 69-foot beam.
