Primera Lectura: Hechos 14: 21-27 En aquellos días, volvieron Pablo y Bernabé a Listra, Iconio y Antioquía, y ahí animaban a los discípulos y los exhortaban a perseverar en la fe, diciéndoles que hay que pasar por mu-chas tribulaciones para entrar en el Reino de Dios. En cada comunidad designaban presbíteros, y con oraciones y ayu-nos los encomendaban al Señor, en quien habían creído. Atravesaron luego Pisidia y llegaron a Panfilia; predicaron en Perge y llegaron a Atalía. De ahí se embarcaron para Antio-quía, de donde habían salido, con la gracia de Dios, para la misión que acababan de cumplir. Al llegar, reunieron a la co-munidad y les contaron lo que había hecho Dios por medio de ellos y cómo les había abierto a los paganos las puertas de la fe. REFLEXIÓN DOMINICAL / SUNDAY REFLECTION UN NUEVO MANDAMIENTO

En nuestro mundo moderno, hay como una prisa por conseguir cosas nuevas; todo se anuncia como nuevo, renovado, distinto. Por otro lado, hay pocas cosas per-manentes; la gente cambia de lugar, de casa, de tra-bajo, de actividad y hasta de amistades. Quizás nos acostumbremos a que perso-nas con las que hemos convivido se va-yan a otro lugar; y eso nos deja con una especie de nostalgia por lo que ya pa-só, por algún tiempo pasado que fue me-jor. Queremos cosas nuevas, pero también queremos aferrarnos a lo que había. Con to-do, la gente que se va siempre nos deja algo; algunos nos dejan un recuerdo material y otros nos encargan algo o incluso podrían dejarnos una herencia; pero también nos dejan un hueco. Jesús también se va después de su muerte dejando un hueco en el corazón de sus amigos que solo Dios pue-de llenar; pero también deja un mandato y una misión, y eso nos debe no solo cambiar la vida a nosotros, sino ayudar a seguir construyendo ese mundo nuevo que hace Dios por la muerte y resurrección de Cristo: “He aquí que yo hago nuevas todas las cosas”. El mandato de Jesús, que podría revolucionar el mundo, es el amor. No es un amor solamente de sentimiento hermo-so, ni solamente hacia quienes nos caen bien, sino un amor distinto que se atreve a perdonar, que se atreve a superar dificultades, que busca el bien de otros inclu-so a costa del propio sacrificio; ese amor distingue esta nueva ciudad de Dios. Hoy Jesús nos está llamando a amar como él lo hace, a amar a Dios y a los demás así como Dios nos ama. La Pascua es el tiempo perfecto para recordar el nuevo mandamiento del Señor, porque no hay otro símbolo más grande de amor que el de la Pascua; es un llama-do a la alegría, una alegría que nace del amor. Para la Reflexión ¿Se podría decir que tu hogar, tu familia y tu comuni-dad es una nueva creación, porque Cristo ha entrado en ella con la fuerza de su resurrección?

A NEW COMMANDMENT

In the modern world, there is a rush to attain new things; everything is advertised as new, renovated, and differ-ent. On the other hand, few things are permanent; people move, change their home, job, activities, and

even their friends. Perhaps we have be-come accustomed to the fact that peo-ple we live with may often depart to-ward new horizons; and this leaves us with a sort of nostalgia or longing for

what was, for the time that past which was better. We want new things, but we

also want to keep what we had in the past. The people, who go away, always leave some-

thing behind; some leave us material keepsakes, while others want us to care for something left be-

hind, which may even be an inheritance; but they also leave a void. Jesus departed after his death, leaving a void in the hearts of his friends that only God could fill; but he also left a mandate and a mission that should not only change our life, it will help us build a new world created by God through the death and resurrection of Christ: “Behold I make all things new.” The mandate of Jesus, which could revolutionize the world, is to love one an-other. This is not a love that consists of pretty sentiments, nor is it just directed toward the people we like; it’s a different type of love that dares to forgive, to over-come difficulties, seeks the good in others, even at the cost of self sacrifice; this is the love that distinguishes this new city of God. Abril es el Mes Nacional de la Prevención del Abuso Infantil, que nos ofrece una oportunidad para apren-der más sobre lo que la Arquidiócesis de Los Ángeles está haciendo para prevenir el abuso sexual infantil.

Preventing child sexual abuse is a partnership. It requires education, training, and action from parents, other adults, organizations, and children. As adults, we need to learn to recognize other adults who are a risk to kids – ours and the others in the community. April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, which gives us all an opportunity to learn more about what the Archdiocese of Los Angeles is doing to pre-vent child sexual abuse from happening.

2. La Eutanasia: Muchas veces disfrazada con el nom-bre de “muerte por compasión”, la eutanasia tam-bién es una forma de homicidio. Ninguna persona tiene el derecho a quitarse la vida propia, y nadie tiene el derecho de quitarle la vida a cualquier per-sona inocente. En la eutanasia, se mata al enfermo o a la persona mayor, por acto u omisión, debido a un falso sentido de compasión, pero la verdadera com-pasión no puede incluir la realización intencional de un acto intrínsecamente malo hacia otra persona (cf. EV 73).

3. La Investigación de Células Madre: Los embriones humanos son seres humanos. “El respeto por la dignidad del ser humano excluye toda manipulación experimental o ex-plotación del embrión humano” (CRF 4b). Los avances cien-tíficos reciente muestra que los tratamientos médicos que los investigadores esperan desarrollar usando células madre embrionarias muchas veces pueden ser desarrolladas usan-do células madre de adultos. Las células madre de adultos pueden obtenerse sin causar daño alguno a los adultos de quienes las obtienen. Por lo tanto, no existe argumento me-dico valido a favor del uso de células madre embrionarias. Además, aunque existiera algún beneficio de dichos experi-mentos, no justificaría la destrucción de embriones huma-nos inocentes.

2. Euthanasia: Often disguised by the name “mercy killing,” euthanasia is also a form of homicide. NO person has a right to take his own life, and no one has the right to take the life of any innocent person.

In euthanasia, the ill or elderly are killed, by ac-tion or omission, out of a misplaced sense of compassion, but true compassion cannot in-clude intentionally doing something intrinsically evil to another person (EV 73).

3. Embryonic Stem Cell Research: Human embry-os are human beings. “Respect for the dignity of

the human being excludes all experimental manipulation or exploitation of the human embryo” (CRF 4b) . Recent scientific advances show that medical treatments that researchers hope to develop from experimentation on embryonic stem cells can often be developed by using adult stem cells instead. Adult stem cells can be obtained without doing harm to the adults from whom they come. Thus there is no valid medical argument in favor of using embryonic stem cells. And even if there were benefits to be had from such experiments, they would not justify destroying innocent embryonic humans.

Jubilee Day for Youth This Sunday’s “Youth Jubilee” previews July’s World Youth Day in Krakow. Its theme from Matthew 5:7, “Blessed are the merciful,” ech-oes Pope Francis’ warning that “the practice of mercy is waning in the wider culture.” In coun-tercultural witness, therefore, “the time has come,” says Francis, “for the Church to take up

the joyful call to mercy once more. It is time to return to the basics and to bear the weaknesses and struggles of our brothers and sisters.” Jesus affirms the same in today’s Gospel. “As I have loved you, so you also should love one another” (John 13:34). Francis concludes, “The Church’s very credibility is seen in how she shows mer-ciful and compassionate love.” Jesus too asserts, “This is how all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another” (John 13:35). Thus mercy “makes young” the Church, the world, and everyone. “Mercy is the force that reawakens us to new life and instills in us the courage to look to the future with hope” (Misericordiae Vultus, 10).

Quinto Domingo de Pascua

Día Jubilar de la Juventud Este domingo “Jubilar de la Juventud” es una muestra de la Jornada Mundial de la Juventud el mes de julio en la ciudad de Cracovia. El tema de la Jornada es “Bienaventurados los misericordiosos”, haciendo eco a la advertencia del Papa Francisco de que “la practica de la misericordia está disminuyendo ampliamente en la cultura”. Como testigo contracultural, por lo tanto, “el tiempo ya llegó” dice el Papa Francisco, “para que la Iglesia aumente la invitación alegre a la misericordia una vez más, regresar a los orígenes, cargar las debilidades y dificul-tades de nuestros hermanos y hermanos”. Jesús afirma lo mismo en el Evangelio de hoy. “Así como yo los he amado, así también ámense los unos a los otros” (Juan 13:34). El Papa Francisco concluye “la misma credibilidad de la Iglesia es vista en cómo muestra misericordia y amor compasivo”. Jesús acierta al decir “en esto conocerán todos que son mis discípulos, si aman los unos a los otros” (Juan 13:35). Por lo que la misericordia “hace joven” a la Iglesia, al mundo y a cada persona. La misericordia es la “fuerza que resucita a una vida nueva e infunde el valor para mirar el futuro con esperanza” (Misericordiae Vultus, 10).
