Persons With Disabilities (PWD) are people whohave long term physical, mental, intellectual orsensory impairments which in interaction withvarious barriers may hinder their full and effectiveparticipation in society .

Registration for People with Disabilities (PWD)in Malaysia is on voluntary basis.

Agencies involved in the registration are- Ministry of Woman, Family CommunityDevelopment (Social Welfare Department)

- Ministry of Health- Ministry of Education.

Registration of card can be carried out atany District Social Welfare Department.

Objective of registration is to know the numberof PWD and types of disabilities for programplanning and provision of services

Currently the web based registration systemSistem Pengurusan Maklumat Orang Kurang Upaya(SMOKU) can be accessed through the Departmentof Social Welfare website since 1 August 2011

PWDs can apply to be registered and PWDsusing older versions of the card can apply to geta better quality PWD card.

The existing card (older version) can still be useduntil 31 July 2012.
