the settinG

Stonyhurst is situated in Clitheroe, Lancashire, surrounded by breathtaking countryside. The College has a distinguished history and offers excellent facilities, a stunning environment, and a fascinating heritage. Founded in 1593 by Jesuits, Stonyhurst College is an historic building set in a beautiful rural estate. Inevitably over a 400 year period there have been many fine achievements and distinguished former pupils.

There is a strong sense of history and Stonyhurst provides a tranquil and spacious living and learning environment and security necessary for our students.

Stonyhurst is within easy access of Manchester International airport, Liverpool International Airport, rail stations and main motorways.

accOMMOdatiOn

The College offers a mixture of single, twin and triple bedded rooms. All rooms are well furnished and have excellent bathroom, private toilets and showers facilities located nearby; in addition, rooms have computer access points in all bedroom. There are various recreational, relaxation rooms and study centres situated throughout the residential areas with a variety of games equipment as well as modern large screen televisions.

All classrooms on the campus have up to date computer based projection equipment with interactive whiteboards. There are various IT suites based throughout the building so that students have access to the internet for study purposes. These facilities include large dining room and chill out area.

FaciLities

The Stonyhurst estate offers outstanding facilities for sport and recreation, whether in the traditional team games such as football and basketball; or in more individual pursuits such as Riding, Canoeing, Sailing, swimming and tennis.

College facilities comprise 200 acres set within the picturesque Ribble Valley. Facilities include a 25m, indoor, heated swimming pool, gym facilities, a fully-equipped outdoor, all-weather pitch as well as a variety of tennis, football, cricket and rugby pitches.

Originally founded in 1844, Rossall School is a premier independent school located on the picturesque coastland of North West England in Fleetwood, Lancashire.

Rossall is one of the UKÕ s top co-educational boarding day schools. Rossall is less than an hour from Manchester and LiverpoolÕ s international airports, and enjoys excellent road, rail and air transport links with the rest of the country.

Rossall School provides a uniquely historical setting for your study programme. RossallÕ s School is set within 160 acres of private ground and includes unique features such as a 19th Century chapel and Library, and a Planetarium. All facilities are of an excellent standard as befitting a premier boarding school.

accOMMOdatiOn

Accommodation at Rossall School consists of either, single, or double rooms all fully-furnished and with associated communal relaxation & TV areas. All accommodation is regularly inspected.

A continuous programme of investment at Rossall School ensures that boarding facilities are constantly being improved and updated. Individual study bedrooms are comfortable and well maintained with enough space for a wardrobe, drawers, bed, desk, and chairs provided by the School. While the majority of the rooms are singles, some Houses also incorporate a few shared rooms.

FaciLities

Our excellent on-site facilities include 150 acres of playing fields, a floodlit all weather pitch, a gymnasium, five squash courts, a climbing wall, eight Fives courts, a 25 metre heated indoor swimming pool, a cricket pavilion, a shooting range, and an archery range. In addition, the Rossall Horse Riding club, held at Ribby Hall Equestrian Centre is also an interesting options for students eager to improve their riding skills.

Rossall, has a secure wireless network and has invested in a State-of-the-art I.T. suite available for use by the students. The I.T suite provides Internet and email access for students; in addition to use for educational purposes.

Develop your soccer skills with the world-famous Manchester United Soccer Schools Coaching programme and gain an insight into the techniques and training methods of Champions...

This programme is unique in providing an in-depth programme covering technical skills, tactical appreciation, psychology and physical training techniques; all within the MUSS Training model. The Coaching Programme is delivered by MUSS trained, UEFA qualified coaches using the MUSS Development Model.

intensive sOccer cOachinG

This is for students aged 10 to 17 years, of any ability level, to improve their soccer skills. The course offers a minimum of 20 hours football training each week, with practical sessions on skills and tactics, and classes on tactics, formations, nutrition and psychology. Use of MUSS state-of-the-art equipment makes coaching sessions fun as well as educational.

Each programme lasts for from Sunday to Friday. At the end of each programme, there is an excursion to the Ô Theatre of DreamsÕ - Manchester UnitedÕ s famous Old Trafford stadium. Walk through the tunnel to the historic arena, enjoy the view from Sir Alex FergusonÕ s place in the technical area and sit where your favourite stars get changed in the playersÕ changing room.

Students receive a full Manchester United Soccer Schools giveaway pack, which includes the official Manchester United Soccer Schools kit (shirt, shorts, socks, bag and rain jacket), a football, and a Soccer School Player Book to record their progress in.

Safety and security is of primary importance and there is a dedicated team to care for the children on and off the field. All MUSS staff have received child protection training and have enhanced CRB checks.

At the end of each programme, one player from each programme will get the opportunity to play on the Old Trafford pitch.

enGLish LanGUaGe teachinG

Language tuition uses a fun, participative approach to learning and emphasises spoken language skills. The programme is specifically designed for children with an interest in soccer and includes a range of role-plays, pair-work and activities designed to allow students to practice English within a soccer context. Students receive 20 lessons of English lessons per week, taught by qualified teachers in classes of a maximum size of 15 students. Students are tested on arrival, and placed in classes with other students of approximately the same level.

a FriendLY WeLcOMe

Any child coming to our sport camp alone or for the first time will soon feel at home. Our on-site team go out of their way to get everyone involved right from the start, so that new friendships are formed quickly. On arrival children are registered, shown their accommodation and grouped according to age. Each group is then directed and supervised by its own group leader who remain with the children throughout their stay, helping and encouraging them in their activities.

BERLITZ MANCHESTER also offer English language and sightseeing courses for school groups at Easter and throughout the academic year in Manchester, Lancashire.

intrOdUctiOn

BERLITZ MANCHESTERÕ s English language international Sport & Activities Camp takes place at Rossall School and Stonyhurst College in Lancashire. We are pleased to offer this complete and exclusive Sport & Activities Camp, where students will have the opportunity to learn, enjoy and practise the sport he/she likes or participate in a general programme. Designed for 10 to 17 year olds, it is designed for children from all-over the world to attend and experience a range of activities. While developing their language skills, build confidence, practise speaking English and create friendships.

All BERLITZ MANCHESTER summer courses provide a full package for our students that includes English tuition, full board accommodation plus a programme of daytime and evening activities that includes sightseeing excursions. Students can choose to combine a Specific Sports Specialisation with their language study programme or participate in General sports and cultural activities.

Our multi-sport activity camp is designed for students interested to practise and to combining practice of Sports with English language study. We have several options available:

enGLish PLUs hOrse-ridinG

All horse lovers can Ô saddle upÕ for BERLITZ MANCHESTER Horse Riding Plus course. This exciting and informative experience will provide the rider with elements of stable management, flatwork, jumping, hacking and gymkhana games. For three half day sessions per week, children are safely transported to a stables approved by the Association of British Riding Schools.

enGLish PLUs tennis

For two hours on three days per week, children are coached in small groups to improve their skills. Players are assessed and placed into groups according to age and ability. Coaching explores all aspects of the game including stroke play, serving, mobility, positional play, volleying and development of spin techniques.

enGLish PLUs GOLF

BERLITZ MANCHESTER's Golf programme looks at every aspect of the game. Students receive an individual assessment from our golf tutor and then gets tuition in driving, chipping, bunker shots and putting, advice on stance and

Our watersports programme offer a variety of options to our participants to choose: Canoeing, Sailing, Fishing, Windsurfing. All activities and tuition are organized with experienced coaches and the centre is registered with the Adventurous Activities Authority (AALA)and is regularly inspected for standards of instruction, equipment, facilities, and staffing.

All programme options are subject to a minimum group size of 12 students.

Karate enthusiasts can participate in this unique programme designed to cater for all levels of experience and ability. The programme focuses on correct dojo etiquette and the principles of Respect and Perseverance. At the end of the programme, certificates of participation are awarded.

enGLish PLUs basketbaLL

Students participate in 3 x 2 hour sessions per week in high-energy sports sessions. Berlitz ManchesterÕ s Basketball programme covers all aspects of the game. In addition to sessions focusing on vital basketball techniques such as shooting, pivoting, passing, rebounding, and dribbling; sessions develop an awareness of team-work techniques for playing zone defense, and person-to-person defense and Offense. At the end of the programme, there is a competition and certificates are awarded.

enGLish tUitiOn

Our vacation courses provide 15 or 20 hours of language tuition per week.

All our teachers are qualified and the tuition programmes focus on active language skills, especially fluency (speaking and listening), vocabulary extension, grammar and project work. All students are tested on their level of English on arrival and placed in the appropriate level and age group in each class.

Reports and certificates are issued at the end of the course. Classes will usually contain a maximum of 15 students.

This package provides an integrated English plus Sports & Cultural Activities programme and includes English tuition, full-board accommodation plus a full programme of day-time, evening activities and sight-seeing excursions.

We will give you the opportunity to discover exciting towns and beautiful landscapes during your stay with us. We offer a range of half-day and full Ð day excursions which have been carefully selected and planned by our team. Typical excursions include visits to the beautiful Lake District and historic town of Chester; in addition to visits to fun locations such as Blackpool Pleasure Beach and Alton Towers. During the week, Monday to Friday, BERLITZ MANCHESTER operate an activity programme for students when not in class. Activities take place in the afternoon and evening and are integral parts of the language experience. A range of fun and interesting sightseeing excursions are provided within the programme to allow students to expand their cultural horizons and experience new, exciting towns and beautiful landscapes. We offer a choice of half day and full day trips, which have been carefully selected and planned by our Team.

Sightseeing excursions of both a full day and a half day BERLITZ MANCHESTER week are a regular feature of our vacation programmes.

The venues we visit are selected because of their importance to British history and culture, their natural beauty,and entertainment value.

Excursions are usually by private coach and are fully supervised by BERLITZ MANCHESTER staff. Additionally, optional excursions are offered to other destinations of interest and will usually carry an additional charge of between £20 and £30. Alternative on site activities or free local visits are available on days when optional excursions take place.

residentiaL accOMMOdatiOn

Residential accommodation is a very popular option for summer school students. Students do not have to use public transport as they will be living on, or close to campus, alongside residential BERLITZ MANCHESTER staff and managers.

The type of accommodation varies from college to college, but our accommodation is selected to offer a high standard of comfort and safety.

Our boarding residences are clean and comfortable with private shower and toilet facilities. Public pay phones and launderettes are on site. Students are accommodated separately into a male house and a female house. Accommodation is organized in comfortable single, twin or 3-4 bedded rooms. The houses are equipped with a common room with TV, DVD, and games, providing a nice atmosphere for students.

Residential students are supervised at night by our staff who live together with the students. Safe storage for valuables is available, however (money, passports, tickets) must be given to the course director who will leave it in a safe.

We have our own restaurant facilities within the college providing a great menu selection. We pride ourselves on offering a varied and balanced diet prepared by our chef and his team.

They try to adapt our menus to meet the preferences of our diverse student body including vegetarians.

Full board is provided consisting of the following:

Breakfast. A choice of full English Breakfast or continental-style with, cereal, fruit juice, tea, coffee or chocolate, yogurts.

2-course cooked hot lunch, with choice of main course and dessert

2-course cooked hot dinner, with the choice of main course and dessert

A salad bar and bread is provided at both lunch and dinner, and fresh fruit is always one of the dessert choices. On days when a full day excursion has been organised, students are given a cooked breakfast and provided with a packed lunch.

Refreshments are also provided during morning and afternoon sessions at mid-morning and mid-afternoon breaks.

saFetY and secUritY

At BERLITZ MANCHESTER we take the responsibility for our students extremely seriously - all aspects of safety are considered and we insist on the highest standards from our 2 colleges. BERLITZ MANCHESTER has fully qualified first aiders but also a medical centre on site and our colleges have links with local dentists, doctors and hospitals.

The skill and enthusiasm of our dedicated staff has been the single most important factor behind our success. Their ability to motivate and relate to young people is second to none. We ensure a staff: student ratio on - site of 1:15 and 1:8 off - campus during trips and excursions.

BERLITZ MANCHESTER staff go through a strict selection procedure, beginning with an interview. They are selected for their maturity, qualifications, enthusiasm, experience and common sense. All relevant qualifications held by staff are also thoroughly checked for authenticity with the appropriate issuing organisation.

All our staff attend comprehensive pre-camp training and orientation days. These courses cover a range of topics, from security, fire drills, policies

And procedures, to safety guidelines and site-specific risk assessments for every activity. Meetings with centre management team and staff take place on a daily basis and senior managers visit BERLITZ MANCHESTER site regularly to ensure that our procedures are clearly understood and followed.

daMaGe dePOsit

On arrival, every residential student will be required to pay a deposit of £45 against possible damage or loss of keys. This deposit will be refunded on departure provided that no damage or loss of keys has taken place.

insUrance

Before students arrive in the UK, we strongly recommend that they take out a medical insurance for their own financial and personal security. We can offer insurance policy to cover medical expenses and a cancellation insurance to cover their course for an insured reason such as illness or serious accident preventing them from travelling.

The international student policy covers:

• baggage
