A letter from the Pastor My dear People at Blessed Seelos Parish: The Gospel for today presents to us a beautiful contrast: a pagan woman and that same woman as a person of faith. Objectively and in reality, this Canaanite woman may have been involved in the worship of pagan gods. I say this because some Scripture scholars have seen the allusion to dogs in the passage not so much as a seemingly insulting comment by Jesus (who would not mistreat anyone) but as a word of warning that he knew of her pagan practices. Canaanites had a special liking of dog worship. That same woman responds with great faith in her exchange of words with the Lord, and he recognizes this faith in her. What a difference a few seconds can make! You and I are the same. In the plan of God, we all have a mission, a destiny to fulfill, but in the midst of realizing that plan we can also be capable of the worst things possible. In each of us there is a pagan and a believer. We can easily worship false gods, but we are also capable of returning wholeheartedly to the Lord. Let us pray that we may learn from our mistakes, and daily turn to the Lord for mercy as we strive to live a life of grace. El evangelio de hoy nos presenta un tremendo contraste: una mujer pagana y a la vez esa misma mujer como una persona de fe. Objetivamente, esa mujer cananea pudo haber estado envuelta en cultos paganos. Digo esto ya que algunos escrituristas han visto en la alusión a los perros en este pasaje del evangelio no un comentario aparentemente insultante de parte de Jesús (quién no trataba mal a nadie) sino más bien una palabra de alerta a la mujer que le dejaban saber que él conocía sus prácticas paganas. Los cananeos tenían prácticas donde adoraban a los perros. La misma mujer responde con gran fe, y Jesús la reconoce por su fe. ¡Que diferencia hacen unos segundos! Tu y yo somos iguales. En el plan de Dios todos tenemos una misión, un destino que cumplir, pero en medio de realizar ese plan somos capaces de las perores cosas. En cada uno de nosotros hay un pagano y un creyente. Fácilmente podemos adorar dioses falsos, pero también podemos regresar con todo el corazón al Dios verdadero. Oremos que podamos aprender de nuestros errores y diariamente volvernos al Señor de la misericordia tratando de vivir en gracia de Dios. Fr./P. José Ignacio

She is one of our Sacristans and Minister of Holy Communion and Coordinator of our Misa Garifuna Celebration. She loves traveling to visit with her family. Cuando ves las andas decoradas con flores, esa es la obra de María y ayudantes. Su sonrisa es contagiosa. Ella es uno de nuestros Sacristanes , una Ministro de la Santa Comunión y Coordinadora de nuestra Celebración de la Misa Garífuna. Le encanta viajar a visitar a su familia.
