BLESSED SACRAMENT CHURCH NEWARK, OHIO Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Stewardship: This weekend, we will have our annual Stewardship Talk by the Chair of our Finance Council, Dr. Tom Fitzsimmons. We will also be mailing our stewardship pledge cards to the entire parish. I want to thank all parishioners who so generously give to our parish offertory. Your generous donations fund the ministry of Christ and His Church at Blessed Sacrament. Your donations help make Catholic Education possible for our children. Your donations help make visible the light of Christ in our community. With that said, I ask you to prayerfully consider whether or not you can increase your gift. I encourage you to strive for the goal of tithing 10% of your income to God. One approach to this is 5% to the parish and 5% to other worthy charitable causes. If you are not there, I encourage you to increase 1%-2% of your income and incrementally work your way to that goal. It may mean cutting costs and making sacrifices. Does your monthly gift equal your cell phone payment? Your cable bill? Your internet service? That would be a good minimum to consider. I also want to thank so many who are generously making payments toward our capital campaign and who continue to support the day-to-day operations of the parish through your offertory gift. Youth Group: I look forward to seeing our Junior High Students (7-8) and High School Students this Sunday, from 6:00-8:00 p.m., in our Centennial Building as our two youth groups meet on the same day and at the same time, but separately. The goal of the youth groups is to grow in our relationship with Christ and help our students discover what it means to be disciples in the world today. In Christ, Fr. Today’s theme is perseverance – Moses keeping his hands upraised throughout the battle, Paul urging Timothy to stay with the task of preaching and teaching, and the widow appealing to the corrupt judge. To be faithful stewards of God’s gifts, we, too, must persevere in the roles to which we are called.

Spiritual AdoptionOur parish is participating in a Spiritual Adoption Program until next June. We will celebrate the impending birth of our spiritual babies with a baby shower in May 2017, which will support our local pregnancy resource center, Heartbeats. “I’m dancing!” The developing baby is now called a “fetus”, which is Latin for “little one.” She is making rapid progress developing all her external and internal organs. During the second month baby teeth form, and finger and toes are developing. Her ears, nose, lips and tongue can now be clearly seen. Brain waves can be recorded. The skeleton changes from cartilage to bone. The central nervous system is now functioning, and so forty muscle sets begin their first exercises. By 8 weeks all body systems are present. This little one is now jumping, flipping and turning – her first dance steps! Please Pray: Lord Jesus Christ, You took our human nature upon Yourself. You shared our life and death, our childhood and adulthood. You also shared our time in the womb. While still God, while worshiped and adored by the angels, while Almighty and filling every part of the universe, You dwelt for nine months in the womb of Mary. You were our Redeemer in the womb, our God who was a preborn child. Lord Jesus, we ask You to bless and protect the children who today are in their mothers’ womb. Save them from the danger of abortion. Give their mothers the grace to sacrifice themselves, in body and soul, for their children. Help all people to recognize in the preborn child a brother, a sister, saved by You, our Redeemer in the womb.

Trunk or TreatTrunk or Treat will be held Wednesday, October 26, from 5:30-6:30 p.m., in the school parking lot. We are asking for donations of prepackaged candy to be dropped off at the church or school. Thank you for your support

Alpha Celebration Dinner You are invited to attend our Celebration Dinner for the conclusion of the Fall Alpha Course at Blessed Sacrament. Dinner will be Thursday, November 10th, at 6:30 p.m., in Shepherd Hall. Alpha is a program that helps create and build our relationship with Christ. It is a great way for those who have questions about faith, but most important, Alpha builds upon the strong foundations that so many of our parishioners already have. Join us and get a glimpse of the experience that other folks have had attending Alpha. For reservations or information, contact the Alpha Session Leader, Scott Van, Horn, at 740-404-1066 or email [email protected].
