PREFACE

Purpose This manual is intended for the technicians who directly use and operate BSR-5000N series digital video recorders (DVRs), the personnel who manage video monitoring system as well as the BlueStar’s technical support staff.

Models This manual is applicable to the following product models: BSR-5004N/NE, BSR-5008N/NE and BSR-5016N/NE Note: BSR-5000N/NE mentioned herein represents all of the above products if no special note is made otherwise.

Content This manual details the BSR-5000N/NE series products’ composition, functions, working principles, networking applications, management and maintenance, which will help users better understand, use or maintain the products. The chapters are shown below:

Chapter 1Product Overview 1.1 Overview

BlueStar series High-Definition BSR-5000N/NE DVR is ideal for the multi-channel audio/video monitoring applications, such as bank business monitoring system, ATM monitoring system, urban traffic monitoring, expressway monitoring, security monitoring of railway transport control stations, shopping malls, supermarkets, hotels, restaurants, intelligent communities, warehouses, airports, stations, ports, and etc.

BSR-5000N/NE uses the latest embedded hardware and embedded real-time operating system, MPEG-4 algorithm and 1/2 D1/CIF video definition. It can provide multi-channel Audio/Video interfaces, USB2.0 interfaces for easier data backup or software upgrading, and multi-function VFD (Vacuum Fluorescent Display). Besides, it can also provide the monitoring center management software (Bplayer) for all users and SDK (Software Development Kit) for special users.

BSR-5000N/NE series products are similar to that of BSR-5004N/NE. The

structural features of different models will be detailed in Chapter 2.

1.2 System Functions

BSR-5000N/NE series DVRs optimize the monitored scenes using the dedicated chips. Its performance has reached up to an industry-leading level in terms of the image quality, storage capacity and network transmission. Meanwhile, it also uses the proprietary HDD

data stream storage technology to ensure the continuous, safe and reliable recording, thereby extending the HDD life span and also avoiding the occurrence of HDD fragments. The device can also save the current image in the event of power-failure and eliminate the inter-segment frame loss. The system is stable, reliable, user friendly and suitable for long-term continuous video recording.

The product has powerful networking functions:

Support TCP/IP, UDP and RTCP network protocols;

Built-in PPPoE;

Realize networking monitoring, remote image transmission, remote control of DVR, remote data download and alarm upload functions via LAN, DDN or ADSL;

The concrete functions are as follows:

1.2.1 Real-time Monitoring Function

BSR-5000N/NE series DVRs provide BNC and VGA output interfaces and support monitors and displays output to perform real-time monitoring.

Support 1/4/9/16-channel screen-split monitoring on the same monitor (depending on the channel numbers) Intelligent view or management of system log Support sequence switching in various display ways

1.2.2 Storage Function

There are two types of mainboards for BSR-5000N/NE. It has integrated SATA interfaces (please indicate in the purchase order).

SATA HDD: BSR-5004N/NE, BSR-5008N/NE, or BSR-5016N/NE has 8 built-in SATA interfaces which can connect 1~8 SATA HDDs in total or 1~7 built-in SATA HDDs as well as 1 SATA HDD on rear panel. The maximum capacity of HDD is 8000GB.

The proprietary data storage format makes the tamper-proof data safe and reliable. It can also avoid frame loss or repeated frame when the data storage does not need to be packed. The video recording can reach up to 12 hours. Thanks to the unique stream storage, it can save the current image at most in the event of an exceptional restart or shutdown.

Support HDD fault management and use management. Real-time display of the HDD remaining capacity.

Support HDD sleep; it transfers the non-working HDD to sleep automatically, which reduces the power consumption and is conducive to the heat dissipation, thereby extending the HDD life span.

1.2.3 Compression

The audio/video signal can be real-time compressed by independent HDD. Voice and image always maintain stable synchronization. .

Image compression standard: MPEG-4; video definition: Half D1/CIF. 6 levels of image quality; the image quality and bitrate are adjustable; each channel can be set separately. Audio compression standard: MPEG-II layer2.

1.2.4 Record and Play Functions

Support multiplex video recording, video play, network transmission, PTZ control, system setup and other operations without mutual interference. While realizing independent real-time video recording, each channel can also realize single-channel video playback, video retrieval, video search and download, etc. Video input supports the self-adaptive PAL or NTSC mode; Video output supports the PAL or NTSC mode. Each video input is compressed independently. The frame rate is 1-25 f/s and is adjustable. Support monitor and display output. Synchronous audio and video work without delay. Support four video recording modes: manual, schedule, alarm or motion detection, which can be combined optionally. Support image mask function. Support password mask and full-screen mask. Support respective time-interval setup of motion detection sensitivity and video quality, and also the function of enabling motion detection. Support cyclic recording when the HDD capacity is full; users can set whether mask automatically when the HDD capacity is full. Support cyclic recording (auto/manual mask). Multi-speed FF (Fast Forward)/FR (Fast Rewind)/FP (Fast Play)/SP (Slow Play). Video information can be quickly searched by time or segment number, video lists are also displayed here.

Display the accurate event time during playback. During single-image full-screen playback, select any image section for zoom-in play (electro zoom-in).

1.2.5 Backup Function

BSR-5000N/NE series DVRs support powerful data backup function. Support USB disk backup (USB2.0 interface) Support HDD backup (SB2.0 and SATA interfaces) Support network backup (dedicated client software Bplayer needs to be installed) Support data backup by time or video segment, and inter-segment data backup Support CD backup (not available in this version)

In addition, BSR-5000N/NE series DVRs also support scheduled backup and local data playback.

1.2.6 Network Function

Support broadband dial-up access and can modify username and password remotely Support ADSL, DDN or LAN protocols Support TCP/IP and UDP transmission Support dynamic IP Support DDNS Set and upgrade DVRs remotely. Real-time monitoring via network remotely Download video files and playback remotely Control PTZ Support alarm handling and system log view remotely

1.2.7 Alarm Handling Function

Alarm handling function and various alarm ways, such as video loss alarm, HDD fault alarm, mainboard fault alarm, motion detection alarm and signal input alarm. Alarm when video is masked. Can connect such alarm devices as infrared vibrator, temperature sensor and smoke detector. Support open circuit or closed circuit alarm. Multi-channel relay switch alarm output realizes alarm handling and on-site lighting control conveniently.

1.2.8 Communication Interface

Dedicated interface realizes alarm input and PTZ control. RS232/RS485 interface realizes the centralized control through dedicated keypad or matrix switcher controller. Support transparent serial port (reserved, not supported now).

1.2.9 PTZ Control

Support PTZ decoder via RS485 communication. Support PTZ control and multiple built-in PTZ communication protocols. The extended multiple decoding protocols realize the PTZ and dome control conveniently. Support preset, patrol, route and ancillary switch. Set decoder’s address manually or automatically.

1.2.10 Security

Embedded DVR and dedicated operating system keep computer virus away. Image data is protected so it can not be modified by computer. Power-failure protection and automatic reboot. Support user privilege setup and 3-level password restriction, safe and reliable. Powerful fault tolerance avoids system crash caused by HDD error.

1.4 Typical Applications

1.4.1 Local Monitoring

BSR-5000N/NE series DVRs perform the main function of local monitoring by selecting the channel numbers according to the monitoring demand. Now, take BSR-5016N/NE for example to describe the local monitoring solution. One BSR-5016N/NE DVR can meet the demand of monitoring when the scenes that need monitoring are less than (or equal to) 16.

BSR-5016N/NE DVR realizes 16-ch audio/video input, or 8-ch audio input and 1-ch audio/video output. Two ways for video output realized by connecting either to the ordinary CRT monitors via BNC interface or to any other displays containing VGA interface via VGA interface, such as PC displays. Audio/video information can be transmitted to PC via network port for the control management of front-end PTZ lens, preset, auto patrol, route, lighting and wiper blade at PC terminal by using dedicated monitoring software. Besides, it can also backup video files via front USB2.0 interface or external SATA interface.

1.4.2 Networking Monitoring

1. Networking Monitoring via LAN DVR realizes networking monitoring via LAN switches. The system networking topology is as follows:

BSR-5000N/NE can be connected to WAN directly via ADSL cable with the same way as that of PC networking. The system topology is as follows:

2.3 Side Panel

BSR-5000N/NE series DVRs can be installed to the chassis through the over-the-ear mounting holes on side panel. The device on both sides is also equipped with ventilation holes for heat dissipation.

Chapter 3Before Installation 3.1 Security Precautions

Please read the security precautions carefully before installation to reduce the possible accidents. "Attention" or "Warning" provided in this manual supplements the security precautions during operation. Therefore, the personnel who take charge of BSR-5000N/NE series DVRs’ installation and maintenance must have basic knowledge of security, and even may be required to master proper operating ways by attending professional trainings for qualified operation.

Attention

1) Please follow the local security regulations during operation. The security

precautions provided in this manual supplement the local security

regulations.

2) Do not enable the DVR with high-voltage or low-voltage power supply.

3.2 Installation Location

In order to make the DVR safe and deliver satisfied performance, the followings need to be considered during installation:

3.2.1 Temperature and Humidity

Observe the ambient temperature and humidity specifications when choosing a location for BSR-5000N/NE series devices. Long-time exposing the device to high humidity will make the insulating materials bad and sometimes may lead to leakage. It also can make the materials’ mechanical properties changed and metal components corroded. When exposing to the low humidity, the insulating gaskets will shrink and may loose the fastening screws. Static may occur in the dry environment and thus endangers electrostatic-sensitive components. The insulating materials will accelerate the aging process under high temperature, which will seriously affect the device’s life span. Therefore, the device should stay away from high temperature and avoid direct exposure to sunlight.

To ensure the normal heat dissipation: do not put the device in the poorly ventilated places; do not block the ventilation holes or rear cooling fans. The installing place should be more than 5cm from other devices or walls. In order to avoid condensation: forbid moving the device from too hot to too cold places or from too cold to too hot places, because the condensation inside the device will affect the life span seriously. To ensure the HDD’s stable performance: Put DVR in air-conditioned environment or chassis with well ventilation.

3.2.2 Environment Cleanness

Environment cleanness will affect the life span of cooling fans, please check the fans regularly. Dust will also affect the device security seriously. Indoor dust falling on the equipment will lead to electrostatic adsorption which makes the metal connectors or metal contact points bad. It affects not only the device’s life span but audio/video transmission quality.

3.2.3 Anti-static Requirement

Many measures for anti-static are taken for BSR-5000N/NE. When the static is above a certain level, it can crash the circuit board or the device. Electrostatic induction occurs mainly from two ways during operation. One is the external electric field such as outdoor high-voltage transmission cable and lighting; the other is the indoor environment, floor materials and the device structure.

Therefore, the followings should be considered to prevent static:

1) Good earth of device and floor

2) Prevent indoor dust

3) Maintain proper temperature and humidity

4) Place disconnected circuit boards on an anti-static workbench with face upward or in an anti-static bag

5) Please hold the edge of the circuit board or HDD during installation and disconnection, avoid bare touching of the circuit board or the HDD components

3.2.4 Electromagnetic Environment

The possible interference source of BSR-5000N/NE series DVRs, whether it generates from the device or application system external or from the internal, will affect the device in the form of

capacitive coupling, inductive coupling, electromagnetic radiation, public impedance coupling (including grounding system). Therefore, the following needs to be done to prevent interference Take effective measures to prevent power system interference The installation location should be far away from the electrical device grounding place and anti-lightning device place Keep away from radio transmitting station, radar transmitting station, or high-frequency high-current device Take electromagnetic shielding measures if necessary

3.2.5 Environmental Protection

Electromagnetic radiation: it complies with the national standard of electromagnetic radiation of no harm to human body. Energy consumption: the power-saving design complies with relevant energy consumption regulations of ENERGY-STAR.

3.2.6 Avoid Electric Shock and Fire

The precision electronic device DVR must be reliably earthed, although it has been designed with many electrostatic protection functions. BSR-5000N/NE internal earth device has been connected to the AC power earth terminal. Please make sure that the AC power contact point in the middle of the plug-board is reliably earthed. Do not split liquid on the DVR; otherwise it may cause internal short-circuit or fire. Do not put other devices on top of DVR. Voltage remains when power cables of DVR connecting to the power plug-socket, even if the DVR is disabled.

3.3 Installation Tools

3.4 Unpacking Inspection

Check the package and contents for visible damage when the devices are received. Unpack the packaging case to check all the fittings. BSR-5000N/NE generally provides the following attached fittings: 1 BSR-5000N/NE device 1 AC power cable 4 HDD IDE cables or a number of SATA data cables (depending on the supported SATA HDDs’ numbers that one SATA data cable matches one SATA interface) 1 set of user manual or CD

Hint The above is suitable for the general condition. The accurate fittings are

subject to the packing specification or the device procurement contract.

Attention

1) The model stated on the front panel is very important. Please check the

model carefully against the purchase contract.

2) The product label pasted on the rear panel means a lot for the after-sales

service or future product upgrading and maintenance. Please take good care of

it and do not tear it up or discard it. It also requires providing your PN and SN

Chapter 4HDD Installation This chapter details the BSR-5000N/NE DVR’s installation processes, mainly including HDD capacity selection, HDD installation and DVR installation.

4.1 HDD Selection and Installation

4.1.1 HDD Selection

1. HDD types selection:

Attention

Two types of HDD interfaces are provided for BSR-5000N/NE: IDE or SATA.

Please make sure the supported HDD types before ordering products.

2. HDD models and parameters Please make sure that the HDD has been installed for the initial installation. 7200RPM and the above high-speed HDD are recommended for the jumpers.

Attention

HDD’s performance plays a key role for the device stability. Therefore, users

need to choose suitable HDD manufacturers and models. Please consult our

device agent or BlueStar’s technician if you are not sure about it.

3. Single HDD capacity selection BSR-5000N/NE series DVR has no restriction on the capacity of single HDD, and can support at most 8000GB theoretically.

4. Total capacity selection Calculation formula of HDD capacity:

Total HDD capacity (M) =channel numbers × time needed (h) × HDD space occupied per hour (M/h)

In a similar way, the calculation formula of video recording time is:

Recording time (h) =Total HDD capacity (M)/ (HDD space occupied per hour (M/h) × channel numbers)

Take an 8-ch DVR for example: the video recording capacity of each channel is 135M/h, and the constant audio recording capacity of each channel is 14.4M/h, so the required HDD capacity for continuous 24 hours video recording of 20 days is: 8-ch×20D×24h×(135+14.4)M/h=573G.

It requires three 250G HDDs or two 320G HDDs.

The HDD space occupied per hour is closely related to the image quality of the channel. BSR-5000N/NE series DVRs set the image quality of each channel separately, so it must sum up the channel’s capacity that calculated separately for the HDD total capacity.

Attention

1) BSR-5000N/NE series DVRs adopt MPEG4 compression technology that

features considerable dynamic range. The HDD bitrate fluctuates up and

down with the image change’s degree based on the above parameters. The

accurate recording time is subject to the on-site test result.

2) The HDD capacity calculated is based on the occupied HDD space per

hour other than the converted occupied HDD space per minute.

3) The HDD capacity calculated according to the image quality must consider

the bitrate of audio channel. The audio constant bitrate of each channel is

32Kbps and is equal to 14.4M/H.

4.1.2 Precautions during HDD Installation

Attention

1) Please make sure that the DVR is shut down during HDD installation or

replacement. Inserting or removing HDD in power-on state is absolutely

forbidden; otherwise, it may damage the HDD or internal components.

2) Each SATA interface can connect one HDD with SATA interface.

4.1.3 HDD Symbol

4.2 HDD Installation Steps

Step 1: Unscrew the set screws on both sides and back of the cabinet. Step 2: Remove the device enclosure. Step 3: Unscrew the screws that fixed the upper and lower HDD brackets (only the upper

HDD bracket needs to be removed). See the diagram below.

Step 4: Mount the HDD on the bracket that is not removed. Attention: the HDD power supply interface and SATA interface face interior of the device. The side with circuit boards and components faces up and is fixed on the bracket. Each bracket can accommodate 4 HDDs at most.

Attention

All the screws must be fastened during installation. It is recommended to add

gaskets between screws and HDDs. Or resonance might happen which will

affect the HDD life span seriously.

Step 5: Mount other HDDs onto the bracket that has been removed. Attention: the bracket side with 4 holes should be mounted near power switch of the front panel during chassis installation. The HDD installation shall use the two screws away from the power switch of the front panel. See the diagram below:

Step 7: Re-mount the bracket with HDD installed on the chassis. Step 8: Connect HDD data cable and then connect the HDD power cable.

Step 9: Close the cabinet to complete the HDD installation.

Hint

1) Step 6 and Step 7 require no sequence however. It is also allowed

to mount the HDD bracket firstly into the cabinet and then install

HDDs.

2) Step 6 can be omitted if the HDD number is less than 5.

3) BSR-5016N/NE device is equipped with an external IDE interface

on rear panel. It can directly connect HDDs (description is omitted

here).

For the mainboard with HDD SATA interface, the external 1 SATA HDD interface on rear panel can connect disk array. The disk symbols are from A to H. The concrete disk symbols are related with the cable of SATA interfaces on mainboard. The external SATA interface on rear panel takes effect when any one interface from A to H has been connected to the external SATA interface (take SATA interface cable).

Chapter 5DVR Installation Only when the HDD has been installed, can we start the DVR installation. BSR-5000N/NE DVRs, designed with the standard 19-inch chassis and 2U height, vary by the models in depth. Please refer to Table 1-1 BSR-5000N/NE performance indexes for the specific dimension.

The DVR can be installed to the standard 19-inch chassis or on a horizontal workstation. The standard 19-inch chassis is recommended for installation along with a tray.

Hint Wear anti-static gloves during installation to avoid metal corrosion that

caused by sweat.

Installation steps: Step 1: Please make sure that the tray for the standard 19-inch chassis has been installed correctly. Otherwise please install the tray at first if it has not been installed or installed wrongly. The tray should be horizontal and should be installed firmly and reliably.

Step 2: Please make sure that BSR-5000N/NE DVR has no conductor or cable connected to the external device. If it exists, please disconnect it at first.

Step 3: Please place the DVR on the tray of the chassis firmly and adjust the position to make the DVR front panel near the baffle of the tray. Make sure that the DVR has been firmly installed.

Attention

Please disconnect the power cable from the power socket before DVR installation.

Please check the connection carefully before power-on. If the connections are

improper, there is a risk of fire or DVR damage.

6.1 Power Cable Connection

Please make sure that the local input voltage meets the device requirement of power supply before power connection. The external power supply shall be 220V±10% /50Hz or 110V±10% /60Hz.

Power input with stable voltage and small ripple interference should be provided, which avails the stable operation of the DVR and extends the HDD life span. It also benefits the external device operation, such as camera. UPS power supply is recommended if possible. The connection steps are as follows:

Step 1: Ensure that power switch is in OFF state.

Step 2: Connect the power plug to the power socket on the rear panel of the device.

Step 3: Insert the other end of the power cable into the AC power supply interface.

Step 4: Turn on and make sure the normal power of the device.

Step 5: Turn off and connect other cables.

6.2 Connection of Audio/Video Input and Output Cables

6.2.1 Connection of Audio /Video Input

1. Before connection DVR audio/video input adopts BNC connector. The required video input signal is: PAL/NTSC BNC (1.0VP-P, 75Ω). Video signal should be in accord with the national standard of high signal-to-noise ratio, low distortion and low interference; the images shall be clear with real and natural colors, appropriate brightness and no distortion. Audio/Video signal cable shall stay away from the device and cables with strong EMI, and avoid the intrusion of high voltage current. Guarantee the stability and reliability of transmission circuit: adopt high-quality video coaxial cables with good shielding performance and select suitable models according to the transmission distance. If the distance is too long, twisted pair transmission in addition to video compensation device and optical transmission shall be adopted to guarantee the signal quality. Guarantee the stability and reliability of camera signals: camera shall be installed in a proper position and at a proper angle to avoid backlighting and low-illumination. It can also adopt the camera with good backlighting compensation or the camera for low illumination.

Step 3: Connect BNC connector at one end of video cable to camera and the other end to the DVR video input (silkscreens on the rear panel are: Video1 IN, Video2 IN……VideoN IN. N is related with the DVR models and is 16 at most currently).

3. Connection steps of audio cables Step 1: Make sure the front-end sound pickup has been correctly installed.

Step 2: Lay the audio cables properly according to the condition of field construction and the actual location of chassis; make BNC connectors at both ends of video cables and paste labels such as Video1, Video2 at the joints of both ends.

Attention

1) Guarantee good contact of connector lugs: both signals and shielding

cables shall be well and firmly connected. False welding, lap welding and

oxidation shall be avoided.

2) Intrusion of high voltage current is forbidden.

3) As audio input has high impedance, the sound pickup must be active

sound pickup.

Step 3: Connect BNC connector at one end of audio cable to sound pickup and the other end to the DVR audio input (silkscreens on the rear panel are: Audio1 IN, Audio2 IN……AudioN IN. N is related with the DVR models and is 8 at most currently).

Attention

Pay attention to the corresponding relationship between audio and video

cables.

6.2.2 Selection and Connection of Video Output Device

1. Selection of video output device BSR-5000N/NE supports two types of video output interfaces: BNC interface and VGA interface. BNC interface can be connected to specialized monitor or TV (not recommended). VGA interface can be connected to PC display or monitor with VGA interface. Only one type of interfaces is valid at a time.

It is strongly recommended to use industry-level monitor as the DVR output device. It has the following advantages:

It is ideal for the industry-level long-term monitoring. The general civilian device is prone to aging, damage and even burn during long-time use. It has high definition and color restoration capacity which are incomparable to the civilian device. It has strong anti-interference capability and is suitable for various kinds of complex application environment. Its operation stability is far better than the general device's.

Using TV as video output device is an unreliable method and is not recommended. Effort shall be made to minimize use time and strictly control interference from power source and neighboring device. The hidden danger of leakage of poor-quality TV could result in the damage to other device.

2. Connection of video cables Connection steps of BNC video cables:

Step 1: Lay the video cables properly according to the condition of field construction and the actual location of chassis, and make BNC connectors at both ends of video cables.

Step 2: Make sure that the power switch of the monitor is in OFF state.

Step 3: Connect the BNC connector at one end of the video cable to monitor and the other to the DVR video output port.

Connection steps of VGA video cables:

Step 1: Make sure that the PC display is in OFF state.

Step 2: Connect data cables on PC display to the VGA interface on the rear panel of BSR-5000N/NE.

6.2.3 Audio Output

The DVR audio output uses BNC connector. It can be directly connected to an active sound box or drives other sound output device through power amplifier. When external sound box and sound pickup are unable to realize space isolation, output whistle might happen. Take the following measures in this case:

Use sound pickup with good-orientation; Adjust the sound box volume and make it lower than the whistle threshold value; Adopt sound-absorbing decoration material to reduce sound reflection and improve acoustic environment;

Reduce the occurrence of whistle by adjusting the layout of the sound pickup and sound box.

Connection steps:

Step 1: Lay the audio cables properly according to the condition of field construction and the actual location of chassis, and make BNC connectors at both ends of audio cables.

Step 2: Make sure that the power of active sound box is in OFF state.

Step 3: Connect the BNC connector at one end of the audio cable to the input port of active sound box and the other to the audio output port of the DVR.

6.3 Connection of Alarm Input/Output

BSR-5000N/NE series DVRs can provide at most 16-ch alarm input terminals (depending on the DVR model) and 4-ch alarm output terminals (depending on the DVR model) on the rear panel for various detectors connection. Pay attention to the followings concerning the connection of alarm input/output:

Alarm input 1, 2…16 has no one-to-one relationship with audio/video signals. Users can set the channel by software arbitrarily. There is no restriction on alarm types. The alarm can be either normal-open or normal-closed. Active power should be provided for alarm detectors or alarm apparatuses. It is not provided on BSR-5000N/NE DVRs’ alarm input/output terminals.

Connection steps of alarm input/output:

Step 1: Turn off the power of BSR-5000N/NE device.

Step 2: Unplug the green alarm terminal socket from the BSR-5000N/NE device.

Step 3: Peel off connector about 0.5cm at one end of alarm input/output cable with cable stripping pliers. Then close the connector with a small amount of soldering tin or tighten the connector to avoid splitting of copper cables.

Step 4: Loosen the screws of the interface that needs accessing alarm input/output with a screwdriver.

Step 5: Insert the prepared alarm input/output cables into alarm input/output interfaces.

Step 6: Tighten the screws on the alarm input/output interfaces with a screwdriver.

Step 7: Re-insert the alarm terminal socket into BSR-5000N/NE device and establish

secure connection.

Attention

All alarm input cables share a common GND terminal. If multi-channel alarm

inputs need to be connected, please join the earth cables firstly and then

connect them to the device GND terminal.

6.4 Connection of RS232 /RS485

Attention

It is recommended to use BlueStar’s dedicated keyboard (for example:

BSR-K01) for control when multiple DVRs are used together. In this case,

RS485 is used in bus connection mode and a 120Ω resistor is connected to

the bus terminal of the last DVR to reduce reflection and raise signal quality.

The logic wiring diagram below shows the control of multiple BlueStar series DVRs through keyboard. RS485 interface uses bus connection mode. Each DVR can set communication ID of RS485 through menu (001, 002……003).

6.5 Network Connection

The DVR provides standard RJ-45 interface through which it can be connected to 10/100Base-T Ethernet interface conveniently. Network interface is an important interface for equipment network management, image transmission, remote control and upgrading. It can be connected to LAN or WAN.

Network connection steps:

Step 1: Lay cables properly according to field condition and prepare RJ-45 connectors.

Step 2: Connect RJ-45 interface of network cable to LAN interface of BSR-5000N/NE.

Attention

1) BSR-5000N/NE series DVR provides standard Ethernet interface. If the

DVR is connected to switch or other DCE devices, please use straight-through

cable; if the DVR is connected to PC, router or other DTE devices, please use

crossover cable.

2) Some Ethernet switches provide automatic calibration function for

crossover/straight-through network cables. In this case, there is no need to

consider the type of network cable.

Attention

1) Before starting the DVR, please make sure the local power supply meets the

power requirement of the DVR.

2) Please check the system connections and the power connection in particular.

7.1 Switch on and Switch off

Switch on steps: Step 1: Turn on the power switch on rear panel of the DVR. Step 2: Press the power switch on front panel Switch off steps:

Turn off the power directly on rear panel in live state. Please press Stop key at

first to stop the system current work if it is in recording or play state (Please press the

Multi-image Display key on front panel at first and then press Stop key if the DVR can not back to the live state by pressing Stop key only). The power then can be turned off when it is in live state.

Hint

If power is suddenly cut off in recording state, the system will automatically

save all video files before power failure. The system does not save the video

files recorded less than 3 second before power failure, but can save all the

video files more than 3 seconds.

7.1.1 Normal Start

The start image displays for 2-5s on normal start (system self-check). The screen will then display the live image when self-check is completed. VDF will display the current time. Stop key indicator will be on for DVR operation.

7.1.2 Automatically Back to Pre-power-failure State upon Power Failure

In case of accidental power failure during normal operation of the DVR, it will automatically save all the video files before power failure. The system will automatically back to the pre-power-failure state on reboot.

7.2 Manual Recording

Enable the manual recording by pressing Record key on front panel in live mode.

Press to enable multi-channel manual video recording in multi-image display mode. Press to enable the current channel video recording in single-image display mode.

7.3 Play Video

Press Play key in live, manual recording or scheduled recording mode.

Press to play the first channel video or the last played video in multi-image display mode. Press to play the current video in single-image display mode.

7.4 Search Video

Press Menu on front panel in live or recording mode to enter the menu. Select Video Data Search and then press Menu again to enter search menu.

Video files can be searched by time or number. Here video search by time will be briefly introduced. Channel selection: Press Down to move cursor to “Channel” box, and then press “+” and “- “key on front panel to select the corresponding channel. Time selection: Press Down to move cursor to “Begin” selection box, and then press number key on front panel to input the start time of the video files to be searched in form of year, month, day, hour, minute and second. Press Down to select “End” input boxes. Input the end time of the video files to be searched in the same way.

Specify the video type: Press Down to set cursor in “REC Type” selection box, and then press “+” and “- “ on front panel of the DVR to change the types of video type. The system defaults to display all the video files in the specified time.

Press Down to set cursor in OK and then press Menu to start play.

Press Pause on front panel of the DVR to stop the currently played video file

temporarily. Press Stop on front panel of the DVR to stop the video files. For other

operations, please refer to “User Manual”.

Chapter 8Faults and Solutions 8.1 Time Check

DVR built-in clock can work normally more than 3 years. Time accuracy is extremely important for the event time of video recording. Due to an environmental reason, the clock may appear error sometimes. Therefore, it must check the time accuracy of VDF once it starts. If great error occurs whenever it starts, the clock chip should be changed (please contact the device suppliers). Otherwise, the time must be reset whenever it starts.

8.2 Sometimes without Image Display

Check according to the following steps: Check whether HDD power supply and data cables are well connected. Check whether HDD has been well installed and whether HDD jumper is set on MASTER disk. Please observe the VFD displayed time when it is power on. The displayed time indicates that the DVR work normally. Then check other related devices (for example, whether monitor and camera are power on and whether video cables are normally connected). Open the device to check whether the HDD interface has disconnected with the data cable interface during transport. Check whether the video format has been correctly set. Pay attention to the difference of PAL and NTSC.

8.3 No function key works

May be caused by system crash. Please reboot.

Please check VFD and observe whether PTZ control indicator( ) is on. If the indicator is on, please press PTZ key to switch off.
