Clear- ly stating and embedding these values sets the tone for all in our School for pupils, parents and carers, staff, governors and all other stakeholders. Over the last few weeks Ms Slater has led a wide-ranging con- sultation. The pupils were asked what values should guide us, and they came up with a lot of helpful advice! Just before the half-term break Ms Slater held a brainstorming session with parents, staff and governors to help draw up the Vision Statement. It was clear from all that we heard that Bures is a happy school, with a strong sense of it values and Chris- tian faith. We believe that all pupils should be given the chance to explore all that life has to offer and shine in their endeavours. Providing a safe, caring, engaging environment provides the foundations for everyone to flourish. At the heart of our ethos are friendship, courage, tolerance, forgiveness, compassion and responsi- bility core Christian values which provide the basis for a lifetime of learning and achievement. The Governors are pleased to present this Vision Statement to the School community. We thank everyone who helped in shaping it. Explore. Believe. Shine. Through exciting and adventurous learning experiences within a healthy, safe and dynamic environment we help everyone in our community to realise their limitless potential. With a strong Christian ethos, we promote belief and faith in ourselves and others, courageously sharing, caring, and forgiving whilst celebrating both our similarities and differences. We challenge pupils to become life-long learners who have the confidence, self-esteem, resilience and desire to achieve excellence in all they do. ‘The Adventure Awaits…’ (Thank you Odin in Y6 for providing this lovely phrase!)

BIG Question of the Week “Can you ever really know what it’s like to be someone else?”

Bures School Vision Statement A Message from the Governors: Values are crucially important for setting the moral code, aspirations and ethos that guide the School. Clear-ly stating and embedding these values sets the tone for all in our School – for pupils, parents and carers, staff, governors and all other stakeholders. Making Maths Meaningful I am hoping to see lots of parents at our

We will be using the time to have a quick look at the statutory test expectations for Year 2 and Year 6 (the dreaded SATs!) and then Mrs Holmes will guide us through the way we teach maths now, unlocking the secrets of the ‘Maths Mastery’ approach and offering suggestions as to how you can best support your children at home. Our aim in maths is to enable children to gain a solid understanding of concepts rather than simply relying on knowing how to use a certain method to solve calculations. This is the type of question we might use to get the children thinking: “Is it always, sometimes or never true that when you multiply two numbers you will get a bigger number?” Come and share your thoughts with us on Tuesday.

Road Safety This week in school was Road Safety Week. The safety of our pupils on Nayland Road has become a theme of great concern our School Council and I know this is shared by many parents and carers, as well as local residents. The central focus for this year’s Road Safety Week was ‘SPEED DOWN—SAVE LIVES’ so alongside my discussion with pupils in our Road Safety Assembly about crossing the road safely, we also talked about how we could help to encourage drivers to slow down. The School Council and I have therefore launched a competition for children to create a ’Speed Down’ poster. These should be completed at home and returned to school by Friday 8th December. There will be a small prize for the winners from each class and we will publish the post-ers to be displayed around the local area.

Children In Need Thank you to all children, parents and staff who helped us to raise a ‘Pudseytastic’ £455.32 for ‘Children in Need’ last Friday. I know the children really enjoyed the day and it was great to see so many parents joining in with the cake stall and raffle at the end of the day. Thanks again to our Council reps for their hard work organising the event - ably led by Mrs Handley of course!

Collective Worship On Monday in Collective Worship, Mrs Holmes was given the tricky task of explain-ing the story Jesus told about the speck in one man’s eye and a log in the others. She did it by talking about messy hotdogs—why not see if your chil-dren can share the idea with you? On Tuesday, our Open the Book Assembly was about the Parable of the Two Sons—where the first son ini-tially makes the wrong choice but does the right thing in the end. The second son promises to help but then finds other more interesting to do. I used assembly time on Wednesday to think about Road Safety and caring for each other. Charlie Cooper showed us how to cross the road safely—looking and listening all the way!

Give that Girl a Blue Peter Badge! For Children in need, I made some hamma bead Pudsey Bear badges and sold them all except two. The two that I had left, I sent to Blue Peter. On Tuesday, after I had come home from school, there was post for me. I opened it and there was a Blue Peter badge!!!!! My mum was so happy for me. She has never seen somebody with a Blue Peter badge before. When I came to school the next day, everyone was asking me how I got it. This week has been the best week EVER!!

MESSY CHURCH

It’s Messy Christmas THIS Saturday, 25th November from 4:00 - 6:00pm in St Mary's Church, Bures. It might seem a bit early, but we thought it would be fun to make some tree decorations for the BIG lights switch on that is planned for 1st Decem-ber. And we are going to be having a think about what it must have been like for Joseph, Jesus’ earthly dad. It will be a great chance for families to have some fun, relax, explore faith and enjoy a meal! Everyone is hugely welcome.

Important Notices—Stuck in the Mud! Unfortunately, the weather has begun to get wetter and so has our field. We would like the children to be able to get out on the field as often as possible so please could we ask that they bring an old pair of shoes or trainers into school which they can change into before they head out for playtime. Labelling them (the shoes/trainers not your children) will help to keep them safe.

Paisley the Fairground Pony Many of you may have noticed the carousel pony who has been resident in our school hall for the last few weeks. Well—last week he received a makeover from lots of our pupils. Sadly, yesterday he was taken away from us but the great news is he will be appearing in all his paisley-patterned glory and sparkle as part of the Fenwick’s Christmas Display.

Operation Shoe Box

Year six school council members have been to the Samaritans Purse in Halstead to see what happens to the loved shoe boxes that we kindly donate each year. We went through the process of this and would like to tell you about it. We arrived at the centre and counted how many boxes we had and we are proud to say we had 73 boxes! We realised how much care the people put into the boxes, as most were full to the brim of things a child would love. The volunteers at the centre put a lot of thought into making these boxes extra special and if there was something missing out of these categories (hygiene, toys, colouring and clothes), they would add something to fill the gap. A lot of the things were hand made by some of the volunteers like: scarves, puppets, purses, hats, gloves and much more. We helped by sorting with the shoe boxes making sure there were no toothpaste, liquids, sweets or chocolate or any edible things. Overall we enjoyed this very much and we are so happy it goes to a good cause.
