DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY

Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord Acts 10:34a, 37-43; Ps 118; Col 3:1-4 or1 Cor 5:6b-8; Jn 20:1-9 or Lk 24:1-12
In the Easter Season, the traditional prayer of the Angelus is replaced by the hymn of the Regina Caeli that expresses Mary's joy at the Resurrection of her divine Son. Thus, Mary became a model for Christian communities "rejoicing" in the Passover of the Lord, a source of true joy to all believers. Indeed, the Risen Christ is the source of and ultimate reason for this spiritual joy that no shadow can dim.
Aware of this saving event that changed the course of history, the Church associates herself with the Woman who intimately experienced the passion, death and Resurrection of Jesus. And the Church asks Mary to sustain her faith: "Ora pro nobis Deum": pray to the Lord for us.
May the Virgin Mary, silent witness of this mystery, strengthen us in our personal attachment to the One who died and rose for the salvation of every human being. May she be our teacher and guide in the faith; may she support us in moments of doubt and temptation; may she obtain for us that inner peace which no one can disturb, because it is rooted in the certainty that Christ is truly risen.

Liturgical Notes for Easter
From Universal Norms on the Liturgical Year and the Calendar:
The fifty days from the Sunday of the Resurrection to Pentecost Sunday are celebrated in joy and exultation as one feast day, indeed as one "great Sunday." These are the days above all others in which the Alleluia is sung.
The Sundays of this time of year are considered to be Sundays of Easter and are called, after Easter Sunday itself, the Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, and Seventh Sundays of Easter. This sacred period of fifty days concludes with Pentecost Sunday.
The first eight days of Easter Time constitute the Octave of Easter and are celebrated as Solemnities of the Lord.
On the fortieth day after Easter the Ascension of the Lord is celebrated, except where, not being observed as a Holyday of Obligation, it has been assigned to the Seventh Sunday of Easter (cf. no. 7).
The weekdays from the Ascension up to and including the Saturday before Pentecost prepare for the coming of The Holy Spirit, the Paraclete.

Durante el tiempo pascual, la tradicional plegaria del Ángelus se sustituye con el canto del Regina caeli, que expresa la alegría de María por la resurrección de su Hijo divino. Así, María se convierte en modelo de la comunidad cristiana, que se "alegra" por la Pascua de su Señor, fuente de auténtica alegría para todos los creyentes. En efecto, el Resucitado es el manantial y la razón última de este gozo espiritual, que ninguna sombra puede y debe ofuscar. La liturgia de la octava de Pascua lo repite constantemente: "Cristo ha resucitado como lo había prometido". Así proclamamos también en el Regina caeli, plegaria tan entrañable para la piedad popular. La Iglesia, consciente de este acontecimiento salvífico que ha cambiado el curso de la historia, se une a María, la mujer que vivió más de cerca la pasión, la muerte y la resurrección de Jesús, y le pide que sostenga su fe: "Ora pro nobis Deum", "Ruega por nosotros al Señor". La Virgen María, testigo silenciosa de este misterio, nos confirme en la adhesión personal a Cristo, que murió y resucitó por la salvación de todos los hombres. Que sea nuestra maestra y nuestra guía en la fe; que nos sostenga en los momentos de duda y tentación; que nos obtenga la serenidad interior que ningún miedo puede destruir, porque está arraigada en la certeza de que verdaderamente Cristo ha resucitado.

Notas litúrgicas para el Tiempo Pascual
De las Normas Universales sobre el Año Litúrgico y sobre el Calendario:
Los cincuenta días que van desde el domingo de Resurreción hasta el domingo de Pentecostés han de ser celebrados con alegría y exultación como si se tratase de un solo y único día festivo, más aún, como “un gran domingo”. Estons son los días que los que principalmente se canta el Aleluya.
Los domingos de este tiempo son tenidos como domingos de Pascua y, después del domingo de Resurreción, son denominados domingo II, III, IV, V, VI, VII de Pascua; el domingo de Pentecostés clausura este sagrado tiempo de cincuenta días.
Los ocho primeros días del tiempo pascual constituyen la octava de Pascua y se celebran como solemnidades del Señor.
A los cuarenta días de Pascua se celebra la Ascensión del Señor, a no ser que se haya trasladado al VII domingo de Pascua, donde no sea día de Precepto (cf. n. 7).
Las ferias que van desde la Ascención hasta el sábado antes de Pentecostés inclusive preparan para la venida del Espíritu Santo.
Pensamiento de Mayordomía de la Semana
En la segunda lectura de hoy, San Pablo les recuerda a los Colosenses que ellos han sido resucitados con Cristo, exhortándolos a que “se preocupen por las cosas de arriba, no por las de la tierra”. Nosotros también, hemos sido resucitados con Cristo. ¡Regocijémonos y alegrémonos!

“The Emmaus Experience”
A Retreat for Men April 5-7, 2013
¿When was the last time you gave yourself a gift to last your lifetime? The Emmaus English Retreat for Men is that gift. This Retreat will take place at Archbishop Coleman F. Carroll High School during the weekend of April 5 to the 7. The only cost is $100.00 and it includes room, meals and the entire program.
