November/December 2011

The Centennial Homecoming celebration was held the weekend of Oct. 14-16, 2011 in Columbia. Traditional events such as the parade, campus decorations and skits led up to a 52-17 win for the Tigers over Iowa State. More information about Homecoming can be found on page 2.

Brother Brad Kenning grew up in Ballwin, Mo., and graduated from Parkway West High School in 2009. He joined Lambda Chi after hearing from one of his roommates about the genuineness of the members and the chapter’s success in sports. “After a recruitment dinner and a couple days of hanging around the house I was hooked,” he says. “It was a place I really felt like I belonged, and I could feel the true brotherhood all around.”

He says some of his favorite and most meaningful memories in Lambda

Chi are events his associate member class took part in, and winning Greek Week last year. “All of our efforts created an i n c r e d i b l e result, one that I will always

remember,” he says. He adds that initiation and the Homecoming 2010

football victory against Oklahoma are his most memorable college experiences so far.

Brad is currently the High Rho (alumni chairman) for the chapter. He is a mass communications major and will graduate from Mizzou in fall 2012 or spring 2013. After college, he plans to write advertisements and commercials. He says he plans to stay involved in Lambda Chi after graduation. “I really look forward to coming back and seeing how much our chapter has changed.”

Brother Mark Melvin grew up in Chesterfield, Mo., and graduated from Parkway Central High School. His older brother was a member of Lambda Chi at Central Missouri State, and stressed the importance of joining a fraternity that didn’t haze. This, in addition to other members hailing from Parkway Central, led him to join Lambda Chi as well. He was signed by Kevin Gralen, and his big brother was Dan Badock. “Dan and I still see each other on a regular basis,” he reports.

He says a memorable event for his associate member class was a walkout to New Orleans when 46 guys snuck into two hotel rooms. “I think I slept

in the bathtub,” he says. A memorable event from his Mizzou experience was lighting Sigma Phi Epsilon’s rock on fire with Jim Williams, using bath towels soaked in gasoline. “Jim’s left tennis shoe was on fire as we ran across the street into our house, under hot pursuit,” he says. “We then barged into the living room to seek cover only to find ourselves in the middle of

an associate meeting.”While in the chapter,

Mark served as St. Louis rush chairman and vice president. He graduated in 1986 with a BSBA in marketing.

Mark works for McCann Concrete Products, Inc., in Illinois and lives in Town and Country, Mo. He met his wife at a Watermelon Fest queen candidate dinner at

the chapter house and they have been married for 22 years. They have a daughter, Catherine, and a son, Billy, who is a freshman at Mizzou and an AM this semester at Lambda Chi. He says that Billy makes five family members who have joined Lambda Chi, and that they are all hoping to attend initiation in early 2012.

“Meeting new friends, who would become friends for a lifetime, laughing a lot, and of course, initiation. It was a great experience.”
