In 2008, three Carlsberg companies joined the Earth Hour initiative – in 2012, our fifth consecutive year to participate, this number increased to 21 companies. Around 64 Carlsberg office buildings and distribution centers will turn off their lights and in addition 49 signs, 38 breweries and malteries will go dark during Earth Hour.

Vice President at Group CSR & Public Affairs says, "We are delighted that so many Group companies are actively engaging in Earth Hour. It is a great way to signal that Carlsberg is focusing on reducing the environmental impact of our operations, not only on 31 March, but throughout the year. At the same time, our engagement in Earth Hour and awareness on climate change also underpins Carlsberg's positions as the most efficient global brewer,“.

Carlsberg’s Earth Hour facts 2012

Facts 2012:

21 Carlsberg companies participate.

64 office buildings and distribution centres will do dark.

38 breweries and malteries will switch off.

49 Carlsberg signs go black.

Selected activities 2012:

Carlsberg Croatia organized event in Zagreb with well-known Croatian TV and radio personality.

Carlsberg Kazakhstan turned off all electricity during the Earth Hour 2012 at the Carlsberg Kazakhstan's brew house and administrative buildings. This action saved about 921 kWh.

Gorkha Brewery introduced ‘Black Friday’, where all employees wore black to signify the event.

Carlsberg Malaysia distributed 1,000 pieces of ‘Energy Saving Shelftalkers’ to all employees including subsidiary Luen Heng F&B and Carlsberg Singapore .

All Carlsberg employees were encouraged to turn of their lights at home.

Carlsberg Croatia

Carlsberg Croatia organized the event ‘Happy Earth Hour’ in one of popular Zagreb city bars, where the well-known Croatian TV and radio personality, Tatjana Jurić Zagreb supported Carlsberg Croatia initiative.

The electricity was off during the Earth Hour - 2012 at the Carlsberg Kazakhstan's brew house and administrative buildings, saving 921 kWh.

Impressions from Earth Hour 2013:

This year, a record of 152 countries and more than 7000 cities, towns and municipalities switched off their lights for Earth Hour.

Carlsberg supported this with no less than 25 Carlsberg companies participating, resulting in 57 breweries and malteries, 59 office buildings and distribution centers and 50 commercial signs going black across the globe.

Selected activities 2013: Hue Brewery distributed fun to-do’s during Earth Hour Email notice to encourage staff to participate in Earth Hour Backdrop at the brewery.

Carlsberg Deutschland’s saved 7,148 kWh, which makes a total of 3 kg. saved CO2 during Earth Hour.

Sinebrychoff had the whole weekend dedicated to Earth Hour - no advertisement lights anywhere in our or Coca-Cola’s facility.

Supportive Earth Hour web banners on various Carlsberg country websites.

Aldaris made a teaser video to invite employees to participate in Earth Hour.

Carlsberg Kazakhstan invited the AmCham CSR working group to have a meeting about the topics of CSR initiatives in Carlsberg Kazakhstan.

Carlsberg Polska handed out candlelights and energy saving bulbs to employees.
