The Philippine Academy of Family Physicians Cavite Chapter officers and Board Members and its general membership hail from the different 7 districts all throughout the province, and through the Leadership of PAFP Cavite's President Dr. Elizabeth R. Fuertes-Soriano, initiated the very first PAFPC's Cavite Historical Tour last April 30, 2017 which started from Samonte Park, Cavite City, where the participants first stayed in the Monument of our National Hero, Dr.Jose Rizal, where Dr. Elizabeth Soriano herself pointed out the locations and told the story of the Grandmother Event of the Philippine Revolution - the spark which started it all, "The 1872 Cavite Mutiny".

It was also in this Samonte Park, where the Governor Samonte Monument, Secret Monument, Paseo de Barangay, and other markers are located. Then group proceeded to see inside Philippine Navy & Sangley Point, XIII Trece Martires Monument, Fort San Felipe, Belfry of Recoletos Church, San Roque Church, Cavite City Millenium Marker, Don Ladislao Diwa Shrine, St.Peter Church, Julian Felipe Monument, St.Peter Church, Markers of Honors and the Old Spanish Shipway. The well-known "Aguinaldo Shrine", the National Shrine of the Philippines located in Kawit , Cavite was visited also. This is where the Independence from Spain was declared on June 12,1898. The group toured around the ancestral home of General Emilio Aguinaldo and saw a lot of memorabilia of the past. It was believed that the Philippine flag was first formally unfurled in the front window of the shrine. PAFPC made history of our own because it was also in the very same Veranda of the Shrine where it was announced formally of the upcoming union by Matrimony of the notable PAFPC members Dr. Aldz & Dr. Donz.

PAFP Cavite embarks on Environmental Protection and Livelihood Projects The Philippine Academy of Family Physicians (PAFP) Cavite Chapter in partnership with Cavite Medical Society (CMS) and other non-governmental organizations (NGOs) adopted Barangay Eleven-Lawin in Sta. Cruz Cavite City to launch an Environmental Protection and Sanitation Program. This project has been ongoing for three years now with the initiative of then board member and now the PAFPC president Dr. Elizabeth R. Fuertes-Soriano. Around 1,000 Bakawan/Mangrove trees have been planted at the the coastal area to provide breeding place for fishes since the majority of residents here have fishing as their main source of living. In this project, the Chapter has been continuously planting more bakawan shrubs every six months to make sure they thrive and to prevent erosion of soil to the sea.

29

Several coastal clean ups were done in this area and gave orientation on the community the importance of helping to save the environment thru proper waste management. This initiative was done because it has been observed that the shoreline has became dumping area for wastes. The Chapter had several meetings with Barangay Captain Rhuel Bella and other Barangay officials and agreed to apply the principle of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle (3Rs) in treating wastes in the area. Through the 3Rs principle, the chapter taught the community on some of the livelihood programs such as making green charcoal out of paper, cardboard, and boxes waste

materials. The chapter bought 10 Briquetting tools and distributed them to the marginalized communities. These tools will provide them opportunity to earn money out of wastes. The Chapter also taught them how to make soap for washing dishes and clothes out of used kitchen oils thru the help of our trainor Mrs. Beatriz Dacayo. We also imparted knowledge and techniques on how to make fashion jewelries, Christmas and home decors, bags, and wallets out of used coffee, shampoo, and soap

sachets.

Other members of the Chapter (Dr. Milagros Barzaga, Dr. Queenie Dacayo, and Dr. Cynthia Cristobal) donated seedlings and seeds to keep the Biointensive Gardening programs going. Dr. Soriano distributed seeds of pechay, ampalaya, tomatoes and lettuce for starters and taught them organic urban gardening.

Our other continuing Environmental Protection Projects were also conducted in other parts of Cavite such as the trees planted at the creek side of St. Charbel Executive Village in the City of Dasmarinas, Cavite. This project was in partnership with the

Homeowners Association St. Charbel. Another tree planting project was also conducted at Brgy. Langkaan Creekside through the initiative of PAFP Past President Dr. Mila Barzaga. The beneficiaries of the 10 briquetting tools donated by the Chapter to the communities were: (1) Brgy. Eleven Lawin, Sta Cruz, Cavite City (2 pieces); (2) Brgy. Panchong Boulevard, Cavite City; (3) Brgy. Calle Marino, San Antonio, Cavite City (4) Brgy. Paradahan, Beldevere Tanza, Cavite; (5) Brgy. Bagtas Relocation, Tanza, Cavite; (6) St. Claire Reformatory Center, Amadeo Cavite. The briquetting tools for Senior Citizens at Barangay Molino V, Bacoor, Cavite will be awarded this December 15, 2017. While in Barangay Green Valley, Bacoor Cavite, the award of the said tools will be on December 20, 2017. The Chapter’s next visit to these areas are scheduled on: December 17, 2017 and January 14, 2018 (Sundays).

Medical Missions and Outreach Programs PAFP Cavite realizes the vast coverage of the whole 7 Districts of Cavite Province, that is why, we have assigned members to be taking good care of identifying, monitoring & following up the most marginalized members of the communities in the different areas. We have decided to focus on our advocacies to be incorporated in all of our Medical Missions and Outreach Programs. In our feeding programs, we targeted and have assessed the Nutritional Status of the preschoolers 0 - 71 months old in the areas and included them in the assessment where we gave lectures on nutrition, personal hygiene and common preventable diseases. The targeted communities were likewise assessed as Normal, Underweight Severely Underweight, and Overweight. The following communities had been under our attention for several years now, whereas, the community is accorded utmost respect because they are being taught to be independent and to improve on their own with the guidance of the assigned PAFPC members.
