CCCooommmmmmeeennndddaaatttiiiooonnnsssI found this singularly helpful- in fact inspiringand excitingly stimulating to my faith…I’vedevoured this thing this afternoon! Thanks forthe privilege of reading this.

Rev. Steve Nicholson, Gateway Baptist Church, Launceston,Tasmania, Australia

Dr. Andrew Corbett’s new book…will not suitthose Christians who simply want to have a“pop” version of end times teaching to reinforceexisting beliefs about a 7-year tribulation onearth while the people of God rest in heaven, orabout an earthly reign of Christ for a thousandyears following his return…Every fair-mindedreader will perceive that Andrew Corbett has setout to honour the Christ who is so evidently atthe centre of the Book of Revelation and manywill agree that he produces heavy-weightargument in support of his approach. I thinkthat more than a few will conclude that heestablishes an interpretation of the Book that is aviable, worthy and sustainable alternative to theviews generally held in evangelical andPentecostal church circles.

Rev. Charles Schwab, Apostolic Church, Victoria, Australia

You continue to bless me, I have plenty morecopies of those futurist books from the 70's ifyour running low, Got the Reese chronologicalbible too.Have you got a different God in Tassie or doesthe cold keep Him awake down there. I supposeI'm trying to say I'm blessed by your commonsense approach and I love not having themental and spiritual challenge of "where or howdid he come up with that?"

Paul, Wagga Wagga, NSW

I come f rom a Pre-trib Pre-millDispensationalist background and I amSOOOOOOOOOO happy to have discovered thistheory of eschatology. I don't know how anyonecould EVER believe Dispensationalism ! It iswhat I now call, TRAIN-WRECK theology. _Iappreciate your work. At least someone is outthere fighting the good fight of biblical truths.

"The doctrine of the last things neverstood in the centre of attention, is one ofthe least developed doctrines, andtherefore calls for no elaboratediscussion...It may be that, as Dr. Orrsurmises, we have now reached that pointin the history of dogma in which thedoctrine of the last things will receivegreater attention and be brought tofurther development."

Throughout my life I have heard many “EndTimes Prophecy” teachers make bold predictionsabout the date for the return of Christ. Leading upto the year 2000 these predictions becameincreasingly weird and so did many of the thingsadvocated by these people and those who followedtheir ideas. One of these more bizarre beliefs wasthat the entire global economy would collapse atthe stroke of midnight January 1st 2000. To counterthis, one Christian leader developed an entirely new“Christian” money system based on goldmedallions. Armed with this information and othereschatological guesswork, I commissioned DonnaHill to write the following humorous poem and Ithink she’s produced a wonderful piece of work.

End Times Poemby Donna Maree Hill

Did you hear that Jesus is coming again? We must let everyone know! The best possible way of sharing the news,Is to make a scary video!

Sorry? You don’t thinking scaring people,Is really God’s loving way?Well, I think it’s time He talked with me,Listened to what I had to say!

I’m “right up” with end times prophecy,With the help of my favourite book,No, of course it’s not the bible! To the latest author I usually look.

Have you seen the current end times book? It’s really a good read!Does it line up with what the bible says? What is your point? Indeed!

Shred your bank cards, big brother’s tracking you,Every cent you spend!Don’t buy anything with a barcode,On this your soul may well depend!I heard you must convert your cash,

Page 17: CCCooommmmmmeeennndddaaatttiiiooonnnsss · or the death of the last original apostle. Christianising The influence of the Christian Gospel upon society by influencing society’s

xv

To the currency of “religious gold”!What? Aurora won’t accept a nugget?Well, just rug up in the cold!

Going on holiday to Europe? Please take lots of care!Stay well away from Brussels,I heard the beast lives there!

I want to know the date for sure.Pre-trib, post-trib, when will it really be?Before the tribulation is important! No suffering for me!

Before the 70’s, 80’s, no, 90’s end,It’s definite Christ will appear.Have I checked a calendar?Um, surely before 2010. Oh dear!

There’s a world-wide government conspiracy,So give up your jobs, live underground! But I’m worried - will we be able,To hear the final trumpet sound?

Someone tried to tell me,To read the Bible, trust God and pray,But I’m too concerned that I might miss,That final rapture day.

1. Why ThingsWeren’t Adding Up…

I sat across the table from a very seasonedAmerican missionary and his wife. My colleagueand I had travelled half way around the world toenjoy this lunch. Being somewhat cut off from theoutside world, they asked my colleague what worldevents were currently fulfilling Bible prophecy. Thequestion hung in the air until my colleague, who hadborne the brunt of my recent discoveries intoeschatology, said boldly, “You should ask Andrewthat. He’s been doing a lot of research into thatlately.”

Knowing just how radical my views wouldseem, I was (to say the least) reluctant to shareanything on the subject. “You don’t want to hearmy views on end times!” I said. “Yes we do.” “Noyou don’t” I insisted. They thought I was being coyto gain their interest. I wasn’t. I have seen howunreasonably hostile believers have become witheach other over the topic of Bible prophecy. I was aguest at this table in their adopted country and Ihad no intention of starting a hostile theologicaldebate.

But I succumbed afterreassurances that they would notmartyr me if I upset or disagreedwith their existing end-time views. Ishared with them my journey ofbeing a rapture-waiting-no-way-am-I-going-to-be-left-behind-type believer to becoming someone whorealised that Scripture neither taught a rapture, aOne World last days’ government, a future sevenyear tribulation, or a reconstructed Temple- to thenbecoming someone who realised that when Jesussaid in Matthew 24:34 that all of the signs of theend of the age would take place within thegeneration which witnessed Him., He meant exactlywhat He said!

As the implication of this one verse dawned onme it drove me back to the Bible to search out whatit really was saying about eschatology. At theconclusion of the lunchtime conversation my hostssaid, “That makes more sense than anything elsewe’ve ever heard!” I was relieved.

What you are about to read is amajor challenge to much ofwhat is being taught in manychurches today! And it has generally been with great trepidation

that I have shared with anyone what I havediscovered. But at the end of every presentation (sofar) I have had unanimous endorsement. This is notto say that it hasn’t provoked questions! What youare about to read is a major challenge to much ofwhat is taught in Baptist, Charismatic andPentecostal churches today. Just as those to whomI have already made this presentation have generallycome from a Dispensational viewpoint andimmediately recognised the impossibility of thistheology, it is my humble hope that those who readthis presentation will similarly be challenged to re-examine their views in the light of Scripture.

2. Just Who IsEmbarrassed?

I had recently preached a message entitled WhatThe Bible Says About The Future based entirely onMatthew 24 when I revisited the text to take acloser look. What I saw for the first time totallyrocked me! Having a teaching and apologeticministry I was used to being highly analytical andprecise. When teaching about why the cults are inerror I have often pointed out that they tend totwist Scripture by altering either words or theaccepted meaning of words in significant verses tomake them align with their doctrinal positions. As Ilooked at Matthew 24 again I realised that I hadbeen just as guilty as the cults! Here’s why:
