Q&A

Everyone’s license expires 6/30/2016

1

In Hawai’i we are all licensed on a triennium. Beginning 7/1/13, Social Workers are required to complete continuing education in order to renew their license. A first time licensee is exempt from the CE requirement for the first license renewal. During the triennium 7/1/13-6/30/16, 15 CEUs are required, with 3 CEUs on ethics. For the triennium 7/1/16- 6/30/19 and following cycles, 45 CEUs will be required

Questions regarding the mandatory CE requirement should be directed to the Social Worker Licensing Program’s office at the dept. of Consumer & Commerce Affairs (DCCA) at (808) 586-2699, between the hours of 7:45 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

• Please note that each licensee is responsible for maintaining their own CE

What kind of CEU are accepted by DCCA?

Continuing Education Units that have been approved by NASW (HI, National or any other chapter) an ASWB are the only approved CE courses accepted by the DCCA.

If I want to attend a CE training that has not been approved by NASW/ASWB can I still get credit?

You can contact the provider of the training before the training and ask them to apply for NASW credits. Visit www.naswhi.org for more info

Can I apply for approval after I have attended a training?

No, all CE workshops must be approved before the event

My organization would like to offer a training, how do we apply for NASW approval?

Please visit www.naswhi.org and look for the CE dropdown menu on the top of the page. Download the CE workshop application, complete and email to [email protected]

Please submit applications 30 days prior to the training. The cost for review of application is $25, and $25 per CEU offered.
