Dear friends,

Women empowerment has been one of our government's constant endeavour which has

witnessed deliberations at various levels. Given Indian society's peculiar structure and

related histories, there has been an urgent realization that women who had been

marginalized as underprivileged historically need to be socially empowered. One

perspective views that there is a linkage between social empowerment and economic

empowerment and independence. If we are able to achieve economic independence for

women social empowerment would consequentially follow. Not only should the

opportunities and facilities for basic and fundamental education be provided to women but also appropriate

technical and employment oriented education to them. Education is the most viable means to obtain this egalitarian

goal. Hence, women should be provided unbiased access to fundamental education. Besides, there must be

strenuously adequate skill development, job oriented training. Women's excellence in various fields of life's

activity is tested evidence of their immense potential to be equal stakeholders in growth momentum in technically

advancing societies. Nevertheless, the number of such women is small and limited to certain strata. The need is to

involve greater number across all social sectors. And this can be ensured effectively through new media and virtual

education. It has the advantage of reaching out to far- flung rural areas where quality technical education or other

vocational courses are a distant dream. The training education of girls may be conducted through virtual

technology by crossing the barriers of distance, space and time. Technology thus may help bridge the gap of

quality in education and training. Virtual courses and virtual educational content may transform a traditional course

and infuse it with a new power of lending itself in a most understandable and comprehensive way to the learners.

This would increase the employability of the learners as the domain skills or the core knowledge of the discipline is

enhanced. Also, technology will open them a new window to an entire brave new

confident world which they usually remain bereft of. Educated aptly thus they

will surely be enabled to crack jobs & be economically independent.

Our organization considers itself to be the apt role of serving the cause of women

empowerment also when girl learners from far off places as well get opportunity

to learn with our lessons and network. Though there are miles to go before we

sleep as Robert Frost puts it we are in constant endeavor.

Wishing you Happy Holi from the CEC Family!

Media & Education

Innovative and original thinking is part of the essence of education that we are offering to our students. This becomes all

the more important in the era of 'disruptive innovation' which drives the change in every sphere today. Education

traditionally has been passively received by the learners but the increasing use of virtual games and related applications

in learning process are redefining its limits and premise. Video games in the beginning were clubbed together with 'idiot

box' which earlier version of non-interactive television was labeled. They were even accused of making children dim

witted and alienated from studies. But time has changed immensely since then. Today, digital or virtual games are

designed with such a smart technology that they engage the player in an immersive environment which simulates the

real situation. The games are specially designed to shape responses of the learners to the real problems of the real world.

The interactive and self-aware characters which innovate and adapt during games provide a good opportunity to shape

his attitudes and response sets and to thereby increase the pace of learning.

Games designer, author and researcher Jane McGonigal sees a future in education where MOOCs, live events and

ordinary gamification initiatives create “extreme learning environments” with the possibilities of learning and problem

solving. Acknowledging the emerging confidence and hope in gamification of education, the University of Washington

has developed a game called Foldit which helps in solving the riddles of complex protein structure through virtual

protein folding. It exploits the basic human nature of resilience which makes them more likely to solve complex protein

structure and design. And there is also a success story as the Foldit game participants figure in several scientific journal

articles unearthing the world of proteins.

There are many such other games like Urgent Evoke which have been developed by the World Bank to teach Sub-Sahara

African youths to solve social problems and therefore help them get sustainable livelihoods.

The emergence of virtual games in the context of learning is indicative in its scope but will expand at a greater pace in the

wake of learning theories and studies that will emerge subsequently. It is the time to re-orient our strategy towards

education so that it can become a holistic affair instead of lesson and notes handing out mechanism. It has to enable

education to inculcate the habit of inquisitiveness and problem solving capability in the learners. The biggest success of

education lies in the empowering of an individual and enabling him to become someone who can take initiatives and can

show the traits of leadership in thoughts and vision. And, as it is agreed upon widely real education promotes the

inquisitiveness and sharpens critical ability to find solutions to the problem and even to innovate. That's just the

beginning of the era of digital games and learning. It will be a future of learning in the time to come and shall redefine the

boundaries and mechanics of learning which would be for sure quite different from the traditional format of learning.

Native Copper is found either in basaltic lavas or in the form of various ores. The Average concentration of copper in the earth's crust is about 45 parts per mil-lion. In India, Copper is mainly extracted from Chalcopyrite ore. Before mining is done, areas are identified for detailed prospecting. Once the viability of the deposit is established, then only mining is carried out. There are different methods of mining .

7th March 2015 : Copper: Occurrence and Mining

Since the 2nd half of the 18th century, the 7 sq.km Hussain Sagar Lake in Hyderabad served the city as its principal reserve of water. It has been a mute witness to Hyderabad's urbanization over the years. Even today, the lake serves as a welcome retreat in the midst of a bustling metropolis. But at a time when lakes are turning into ponds into puddles, can anyone bet on the lake water remaining as pristine as ever ?

In this programme we aim at telling students where to put right accent on the right word, which will help students in word recognition, understand right grammatical function & meaning.

Model making especially a mathematical one, is essential in Science, because it helps in understanding the long term behaviour of systems. A model for a system is usually developed from its known properties. To illustrate it we take up the story of Romeo and Juliet. They are eternal lovers. But we introduce certain variations in the story.

Lichen is a stable self supporting association of a fungus (mycobiont) & an alga (phycobiont) living together and mutually help each other. Lichens are also known as pioneer plants as they colonize rocks & produce organic acids which weather the rocks. Lichens are useful as sources of food, fodder chemicals, dyes & antibiotics. Lichens are very much sensitive to pollution and can be considered as pollution indicators and monitors.

George Boole laid out a provoking algebra that revolutionized mathematics, logic and science. It is Boolean Algebra that provides the basis for all electronic machines such as computers. Through charts and practical demonstration of circuits, the law of this Algebra are explained and discussed.

21st March 2015 : Boolean Algebra
