SACRED HEART ALAMOSA

Everyday Stewardship

Are you a parent that has used that one on your kids? I’m not sure at what age they realize that the volume of their voice doesn’t correlate to the likelihood of receiving a favorable reply — it might be sometime in the teenage years, when the talking slows down altogether. But I’ve got to admit, it would be nice if God always gave us a loud and dramatic sign when He wanted something — the boom-ing voice and the torn-open heavens (“This is my beloved Son!”) really get the message across. Sometimes I find myself envious of the Apostles, who were able to witness such things in person. The fact of the matter is, in the year 2021, God is more likely to speak in a whisper than in a shout. The prophet Isaiah forewarns that Christ himself will not be a noisemaker — for all his preach-ing, he will not cry out or shout to bring forth justice to the na-tions. His way is altogether different than that. We are not the Apostles, and we do not have the privilege of see-ing the Holy Spirit descend on Christ like a dove. But here’s the good news: God doesn’t need to shout. Our spiritual hearing works just fine. We just have to be listening. Let’s wake up each morning ready to hear God’s whispers throughout the day. Let’s make a conscious effort to invite those whispers into our hearts, where they can become a catalyst for grace in this world. — Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS

A Prayer for Spiritual Communion

My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love you above all things and I desire to receive you in my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive you sacra-mentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace you as if you were already there and unite myself wholly to you. Never permit me to be separated from you. Amen.

Reflections with Father Uju The Baptism of the Lord

It is very possible that we will think about the Baptism of Jesus from our experience of Baptisms. However, there is something in the Baptism of Jesus that can help us think about a very important value of Baptism. The Baptism of Jesus was a very important and revealing moment for John the Baptist. He was telling the people about the great one who is coming. Their anticipation was high and when Jesus came to be baptized the celestial manifestations brought about a great significance of baptism. At Baptism we are reborn and get a new adoption that claims us. For Jesus, God said: You are my beloved Son; with whom I am well pleased.” It is the voice of adoption that is said about us when we were baptized. Do you like the claim? Do you like the adoption? I do. If you do, then do not wait to bring that newborn in your family to the waters of baptism. For us however is the question, if we living in was that are pleas-ing to God, who declared his adoption of us. Can I say that the things I did from the time I woke up till now are pleas-ant things in the sight of God? Are there life challenges that make it difficult for me to live lives pleasing to God? Yes, there are and many of them hinge on our insatiable desires. About this, God tells us through the prophet to come to Him, the water of life. God will supply your needs and help you with the graces to do all for His greater glory. In Jesus we have an abundance of that water and through sharing from the Eucharistic Table we draw the strength to conquer and overcome those challenges. Let all of us who are baptized realize that God’s claim is on us. Let’s all real-ize that our lives should please Him. Let’s all realize that He invites us to the place where we will learn the best way to overcome. Do you remember the date of your Divine Adoption through Baptism? Good for you if you do; and if not go and find out.

Sharing the Gospel

"Keep trying. You're doing great. I'm so proud of you." Every child should hear words like that. Every child wants to feel

God's love. As Jesus grew from a boy to a man, he showed he was ready to live for God. At Jesus' baptism, God told Jesus, "You are my own dear Son, and I am pleased with you." God loves you as his child, too.

Mission for the Week Be careful to use kind words with your family and friends.

We would like to thank all of our parishioners and visitors for

being generous with your weekly donations. We depend on your generosity to meet the financial needs of our parish.

May God bless you for your continued support!
