I must begin with a word of thanks to John Boland. He has rendered untold service to our church and the Kingdom at large through his leadership as Minister of Missions at Central. His missions leadership has involved more than the large task of organizing, recruiting, and going on numerous mission trips. He has served as a link to a large list of missionaries who have been encouraged and supported throughout the years. He and Ann have often hosted missionaries in their home and communicate with them regularly by phone and e-mail. He has led numerous missions projects like the Mexico Border ministry and organized the Galveston Builder’s Trip as a “last minute hero” when it looked like things would be cancelled. In addition to John and Ann’s godly examples, I consider them friends. You will notice in his article that he is resigning as Minister of Missions upon completion of this summer’s Romania mission trip. I take the news with sadness for Central but with anticipation of great things with the new work he is doing with the Lausanne Evangelism Movement. The Bolands plan to remain part of us at Central, just not in the role as Minister of Missions. A reception honoring John and his family will be planned in August. Thank you to Lynn Puryear and the large number of volunteers who made this year’s VBS such a great success! You will see pictures of the great fun we had. More importantly there was a great deal of spiritual growth for students and workers alike. Please pray for God to continue to work with the seeds planted this week. Continue to pray for Brianna Monroe as she is spending the summer in another part of the world sharing God’s love. Pray for her safety and effectiveness for the Kingdom. I look forward to her report upon her return with lots of pictures and stories of God’s work there. Pray for our Mission Trip to Oaxaca, Mexico July 2-9. John and Janice Cain, Lynn Puryear and her father Rodney, Joe and Victoria Cortinas, Dr. Carl and Lynn Grant, Lee Rogers, Nissy and I will be leading a VBS at the city dump where Buckner International has a feeding station for the children who spend their days scavenging for recyclables to support their families. We will also be helping with a building project for their community transformation center, holding a dental clinic, helping with the daily lunch preparations, and I will be preaching at a local church there. We will be joined by a large group from the Woods Baptist Church in Tyler. Pray for our Mission Trip to Arad, Romania and Budapest, Hungary July 18-28. John and Ann Boland, Karen McMath, Cody McCary, and I will be traveling to our sister church in Arad. We will be leading several family and outreach events. The ladies will be teaching the children’s workers there about age appropriate educational methods while John and I will share about teenage discipleship and outreach. BIG THANK YOU!!! I want to personally thank everyone who was involved with this year’s Builders’ Mission Week. WOW!

What an awesome week. Thank you to the everyone that worked on painting, flooring, fencing, building

ramps, cooking, providing evening meals, providing snacks, sharing devotionals, etc. It was truly a

blessing to see the Body of Christ at work. Until next year, keep carrying the torch!!!

Transformational Class Transformational Church Goes to Sunday School

There is something to be said for transformation. It’s not just talking the talk, but it’s walking the walk. Romans 12:2 tells us, Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be

transformed by the renewing of your mind. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, Therefore, if anyone is

in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! 2 Corinthians 3:18 tells us We all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed

into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

God has a lot to tell us about being transformed. God has a purpose in our being transformed. He wants us to become like Him. It is not something that we can do, but only God Himself can do. We must realize, to be transformed, we have to allow God to step into our lives to do the work. We need to allow him to take control. It is necessary to place our lives in His hands. Dr. Ed Stetzer, Vice President of Research and Ministry Development for Lifeway Christian Resources and Tom Rainer, President and CEO of Lifeway Christian Resources, co-authored the book Transformational Church: Creating a New Scorecard for

Congregations. They have challenged the church to think beyond just tallying numbers, whether it be attendance, budgets, or building projects; to think about whether they make an impact on the lives of others or not. In other words, it is not so much about numbers as it is about impacting others with our lives because of Jesus. Stetzer states that, “When pastors do for people what they themselves should do, everyone suffers and the mission of God is hindered.” He also says, “We must work for nothing less than the church’s mission to see people transformed to look like Christ, churches to act like the body of Christ, and communities changed to reflect the kingdom of God. The living goal of the church must be the living Christ alive in others.” On Sunday, July 10th @ 3pm we will have a Live On-line Training called, Transformational Class: Transformational Church Goes to Sunday School. The training session will be in the parlor of the Activities Center, with dinner to follow in the gym. This training is mainly for all of our Sunday School Leadership, but I want to encourage all of you to come for this training. I know that it will truly benefit everyone who attends. Hope to see you there! Boldly Believing,

Paul

To Brother Steve, Missions Ministry Team, Deacon Body and members of Central Baptist Church.

Since May of 2004 it has been a blessing (Psalm 128:2) to serve as the Minister of Missions to what both Ann and I consider our home Church. In these past 7 years God has accomplished much. Consider how Mission Carthage has grown from rather humble beginnings in Panola County, supported by just 3 churches, serving the basic needs of local citizens. Today, with support coming from over 70 churches from 7 East Texas counties, it serves a variety of needs for thousands of citizens from Panola, Rusk, and Shelby counties. What about Central’s involvement in short term missions? It has increased too! Teams of church members served along the Texas-Mexico border, ministered to orphans and the handicapped in Mexico. A team even helped the sea-gypsy people of Thailand recover after the tsunami; as well as taught English in schools, preached in prison, passed out tracts and met the needs of orphans in Northern Thailand. They prayed over the streets and for the people of Burma and Laos. Another team has been involved in seminars and conferences in Romania and the Ukraine for the past several years. Then a couple of years ago after Galveston was hit by a devastating hurricane, our church led a partnership of local churches and organizations (Philemon 1:6-7) which helped restore dignity to the citizens of that proud city. There are over 100 volunteers from Carthage who worked on several homes and a church during that week. Our church has increased its missions giving by sending needed funds in many different directions: to the border to buy rice and beans to feed around 40,000 people on two sides of the border. We have supported missionaries across the globe from Mexico, Dominican Republic, Romania, Rwanda, and Thailand. We increased our commitment to national missions by supporting missionaries in Louisiana, Maine and Connecticut. Breckenridge Village of Tyler, Pineywoods & Bethany Encampments and other regional activities continue to call for our support. Our Local ministry has two major areas. Mission Carthage would not serve the number of people it does without Central’s strong leadership and financial support, and many nursing home residents have come to depend on the ministry services that were started several years ago. As these mission activities have been occurring God has blessed my personal ministry also. As stated in several newsletters, I have become a member of the Lausanne Movement and a part of the Lausanne U.S. leadership team. What started with the Lausanne Leadership Conference in the summer of 2007 in Budapest, Hungary, became an invitation to not only participate but to speak at the 3rd Congress on World Evangelism in Cape Town, South Africa. Being asked to participate in Mission America’s conference in Orlando, Florida followed this. Now I am working closely with several individuals in a program known as “Workplace Evangelism” which is the idea that we are all missionaries in our work environment. This group is in the process of establishing a series of national and global workshops to encourage discipleship, faithful boldness and witnessing. It is because of this ministry activity that I have been brought to my knees in prayer (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18) concerning God’s direction for my ministry’s future. It is also from this prayer time that I must now announce that my ministry is growing beyond the walls of Central Baptist Church. Therefore, it is with a firm understanding of God’s Will in my life that I hereby submit my resignation as Minister of Missions for Central Baptist Church effective August 1, 2011. Please allow me to clarify several things: I have every intention of leading this one last mission trip into Romania and Hungary this July; I am not stepping down from my involvement at Mission Carthage; and Ann and I have no plans to leave the church as members. As I have said before, it has been a blessing to serve Central these many years. May God bless you and Central Baptist Church! In Christ’s service and yours, John W. Boland

Now is the time when things really start heating up, both the temperature and excitement. Our incoming 7th graders get to come to MERGE for the first time on July 6. We had a good number of youth help out with VBS last month; all these will get to go to Splash Kingdom with the Children’s Ministry on July 14 as a “Thank You” for their service. We’re even having a movie night for our incoming 7th graders ONLY on Monday, July 18 from 6pm-9pm. The next day, July 19th, there will be a High School (9-12 grade) cookout and game night at the church with dodgeball, basketball, and ultimate Frisbee. AND we are having a trip to Six Flags

just for Junior High (completed grades 6-8) on July 21.

As this newsletter is being mailed, 23 of us are in Panama City Beach, FL for youth camp. I can’t wait to give you an update next month on how God moved among our

youth and adults. Camp is always an awesome time in the lives of youth.

With so many things happening at the church it is easy to forget why we come to church. In the midst of so many activities make sure and take some time to

remember the love Jesus showed us on the cross and show the same love to others.

Peace,

Would you like to sponsor a camper? We have 18 kids signed to attend preteen camp in August. You can help by making a donation to the camp fund, and by praying that God will do something amazing in the lives of our kids this summer.

Dear VBS Volunteers,

Where do I begin to thank you for your help in making VBS 2011 a huge success! You have given of your time and talents so that kids in our community might know the amazing love of Jesus Christ. Please know that the countless number of cups of lemonade, the brave preschool teachers that corralled over 35 kids, and the countless hours spent decorating and rehearsing did not go unnoticed. Heaven will be different because of you!

What a privilege it has been to explore the Big Apple with you and discover where faith and life connect.
