Land and WaterChina is the 3rd largest country in Asia.

In China mountains, plateaus, and highland, or raised areas mostly make China’s landforms.

50 years ago a strong and powerful nature forces created a landscape in East Asia, and now it is called India (It is located on the southwest of China).

Enormous natural forces made lands for example volcanoes made mountains by the lava and the ashes.

Earthquake caused some of the lands to sink or float up the ocean.

In China there is a river called Yangzi, Yangzi is the most important river in China.

The Yangzi river flows 3,915 miles to the East China sea which is (6,300 km).

Huang He river flows through the most fertile land of China Plain.

The North China Plains are covered with loess which are brownish yellow fertile soil.

Climate and Vegetation

Climate affects the plants strongly.Bamboo in East Asia grows unbelievably fast during the wet season. Many small flower and shrubs grows rapidly in deserts of China after summer rains. And they are vanished when the weather returns back. The climate strongly affects the life in East Asia. The Huang He, or the yellow river got its name from a yellow brownish loess that was blown by the desert winds. The river picks up the loess and keeps it to the east on the north of China Plain.

Page 8: China By: Alissa Kang .

Climate and Vegetation

The loess which were carried by the Huang He covers a large 125,000 square mile (32,375,000 hectare) area near the river.

But Huang He river also has a flood problem. But today we have a system dams that helps to control the waters.

Still the river can over flow their banks in the monsoon time.

Damaging flood gave them a nickname: “China’s Sorrow”

Natural Resources

In East Asia oil is an important resource, oil could be expensive or too difficult to find.

If the two Koreas share their mineral resources it’s going to be a good benefit. But they don’t want to share their minerals. (No wonder why they had a war..)

Japan is a modern country and they importer of natural gas, coal, and oil.

Japan also imports 95% of iron ore, copper, and tin.

Natural Resources

Parts of the East Asia have enormous forests. But still people mistreats the trees and cut trees. In the past people replanted the trees when they were cut down. But now people still import wood.Heavy rainfalls helps East Asia for developing water power. Water power is important to region’s industrial development.Pacific Ocean is also an important resource for East Asia to depend on.East Asians also practice aquaculture, or sea farming. They also raises fishes in the gigantic cages. And they also makes bed for shrimp and oysters by the artificial reefs.

Page 12: China By: Alissa Kang .

Natural Resources

In East Asian people farms on the land to feed their population or family.

But only few parts of the land could be farmed in

Korea, Japan, North Korea, China.. -_-…

Farmers practice double-cropping so that they can grow the plants as double!!

The plants grows fast on the fertile land and soil.

Crops takes less place then the cattle so they need to work more hard to feed their country.
