From the Pastor’s Desk
Christ the King has been involved in the BREAD Organization for several years, collaborating with other churches and synagogues as we seek to remedy social justice issues in our city. Monday is a big day for BREAD. Members from the many congregations that make up the organization will gather at our parish for the Annual Assembly. The primary purpose of this assembly is to determine (by vote) what issue BREAD will concentrate on for the next several months. The issues have been narrowed down to the following: crime, jobs, youth and family, education. Last year, BREAD’s focus was on crime. After much research, the organization proposed that Columbus adopt the CIRV Program, which stands for “Community Initiative to Reduce Violence.” This particular initiative has been successful in reducing gun violence in other cities throughout the United States. Because of BREAD’s efforts, Columbus’ Safety Director, George Speaks, is taking an interest in CIRV. He will be present at the Annual Assembly, offering an update on what Columbus is doing to bring the program to Columbus. At the Annual Assembly we will also hear from David Royer, the CEO of Franklin County’s Alcohol Drug and Mental Health Board (ADAMH Board). We will hear the good news about new plans for a Clubhouse International to be opened in Columbus. A Clubhouse is a community center for men and women with mental health issues. Such centers provide members with opportunities to build long-term relationships that facilitate educational, employment, and housing opportunities. BREAD introduced the Clubhouse model to our local ADAMH Board, and we are now seeing the fruit of our labor. It is an exciting time for BREAD, and we are fortunate to join forces with this organization throughout the entire year. We need the support of thousands of people in order for city officials to listen to
new ideas about what we can do to make Columbus a better, more just place to live.

The Sisters’ Corner
The sisters will be away from the parish for the next two weeks. They will be on retreat in New Hampshire with dozens of other sisters from their order. While they are away, they will renew their vows and spend time with the founder of their order. Please pray for their sisters as they participate in this biannual retreat.

Christ the King ha estado involucrada en la Organización BREAD desde hace varios años, colaborando con otras iglesias y sinagogas, buscando remediar los problemas de justicia social en nuestra ciudad.
