RADICALTRANSFORMATION On this Thirteenth Sunday in OrdinaryTime, the readings describe anything but anordinary time. They are disturbing and theyleaveusdisturbed.TheOldTestamentreadingrecountsayoungman’sradicalbreakwiththepast to follow a new path. The Gospeldescribes how life as we know it is abruptlychanged if we follow the call of Christ. Thepsalm and Paul assure us that such life-alteringchangeispossibleonlybecauseofthepowerofGod’s love.Wearepresentedwithastark choice. To love as God loves, we mustleave our old lives behind. We must leavebehindnotjustthebad, thesel ish, andtheevilbut theordinary, our daily work, and theimportant, our families, our lives. Dear Parishioners,
Summertime is officially here and I’m sure we all have hopes of nice weather, a more relaxed
Schedule, and if possible, recreation. Recreation actually means to re-create or to build up and renew
ourselves for a while since we live in the fast tempo of New York City. I hope you can find time to slow down
since it is usually easier to pray when we are rested.
Thursday of this week will be Independence Day, the Fourth of July. There will be two masses:
8:30am and 11:45am. The rectory office will be closed on Thursday.
As you know, the summer mass schedule of 8:30am and 11:45am for weekdays will begin tomorrow,
July 1st. The winter schedule will resume on Monday, September 9th.
Parking is available for the 8:30am mass on weekdays. The Bay Ridge Sports Camp will close the
yard at 9:30am.
We bid a fond goodbye for the summer, to Father Espinal who will return to Sacred Heart Seminary
in Detroit for his summer courses. He will return to us on Labor Day.
Let’s pray for each other,
Msgr. Kevin B. Noone
P.S. On the weekend of July 13th and 14th, Father Charles Keeney, the Diocesan Director of the
Propagation of the Faith, will make the summer Mission Appeal for the Sister’s of St. Gemma Galgani of
Tanzania, East Africa.

OPEN WIDE OUR HEARTS
In November 2018 the Catholic bishops of the United States released a Pastoral Letter Against Racism called, Open Wide Our Hearts. The letter is a powerful invitation for all the people of God to “face courageously the vice of racism,...reach out generously to the victims of this evil, to assist the conversion needed in those who still harbor racism, and to begin to change policies and structures that allow racism to persist.” At usccb.org/racism, you can read the entire letter, get new resources and find ideas for how we can respond.
