From September to November of this year the major relics of St. Maria Goretti will make a pilgrimage to the United States. It is the first time that her body travels to the USA and only the second time that it has left Italy. While St. Maria is universally known as the Patroness of Purity, her greatest virtue was her unyielding forgiveness of her attacker even in the midst of horrendous physical suffering, a forgiveness that would com-pletely convert him and set him on a path to personal holiness. In March His Holiness, Pope Francis, an-nounced an Extraordinary Holy Year of Mercy beginning December 8th. This visit of the major relics of St. Maria Goretti is an effort on the part of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints and Treasures of the Church (www.TreasuresOfTheChurch.com) to prepare and catechize the United States for this great cele-bration in the life of the Church. St. Maria’s body is not incorrupt. It experienced natural degradation when it was interred in the cem-etery of Nettuno, Italy, following her murder. Thus, making this pilgrimage is not her flesh but simply her skeletal remains, which are contained inside a wax statue that was made in her likeness.
Our parish will host St. Maria on: Wednesday, September 30, 2015 Public veneration of St. Maria will begin at: 7:00am The time of the Solemn Mass celebrated in St. Maria’s honor: 7:30pm Main Celebrant: Bishop John J. O’Hara The time public veneration ends: 11:00pm More information can be found at: ♦ Official Webpage: www.MariaGoretti.com ♦ Facebook: www.facebook.com/MariaGorettiUSA ♦ Twitter: @GorettiUsa
HONOR GUARDS FOR ST. MARIA GORETTI We are looking for parishioners to serve as honor guards as we host the relics of St. Maria Goretti. If you can volunteer for a half hour interval from 10am until 6:30pm, call Mary Liss at 718-698-3746.

A copy of the child’s Baptismal Certificate is re-quired along with proof of any other sacraments that have been received.
