COHOES - The historic Van Schaick Mansion will be open to the public for free tours from noon - 4:00 p.m. The last tour will begin at 3:00 p.m. Free Admission for Active duty military per-sonnel and their families, as this is a Blue Star Museum. Glenn Bentz, former Native American Interpreter for the Cooperstown Farmers Mu-seum and New York State Historical Society, will set up an encampment at the Mansion. This unique living history program features an authentic Native American Indian encampment, com-plete with real artifacts. It also includes presentations on the history of the Haude-nosaunee (Iroquois); tradi-tional clothing; 18th century weaponry; fire making skills; the trade period and its ef-fects; 18th century cooking; and oral traditions, including storytelling. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! CAPITAL DISTRICT - National non-profit Binky Patrol provides blankets for children in need locally through the Mechan-icville chapter. They supply handmade blankets and hats to children who are sick, homeless, grieving or traumatized throughout Saratoga, Albany and Rensselaer Counties. No sewing experience necessary. They also need donations of materials such as cotton flannel, fabric, yardage or scraps, Polar fleece, quilt batting, postage, old clean sheets, yarn and thread. This course will cover the evolution of music from the primitive rhythms of ancient humans, to the soaring melodies of Mozart! We will study the fundamentals of Jazz, Glenn Miller, the Big Band sound, and more. Additionally, this class will cover Music Theory- the science behind how music is made with such concentrations as rhythm, composition and melodic forms. We will study the human voice and its workings, how speakers speak and singers sing! The class will culminate with us writing our own music!!! 2ND ANNUAL MIRACLE LEAGUE POKER RUN-THE MIRACLE RIDE

CAPITAL DISTRICT - Save the date May 17, 2014 for our 100 mile scenic road course through the mountains of Rensselaer, Columbia, and Berkshire Counties to raise money for sports and social programs for children and adults with disabilities. HERITAGE DAY IN COHOES

COHOES - On Saturday, May 17th we will celebrate our heritage beginning with a Polka Mass in our church at 4:00pm. Our Pastor, Rever-end Peter Tkocz will be our celebrant. Several Polish organizations along with the Sisters of the Resurrection will take part in this event. The children of our parish will be dressed in colorful Polish costumes. A history of our church will be pre-sented during the liturgy. A Polish dinner will be held in the church hall from 3:00 7:00pm on this day. We will feature an exhibition of Polish culture including ar-tifacts from various regions of Poland. We will include the religious aspects of our heritage with photographs, anniversary books and our history for the past 110 years. This display will be held again on Sunday May 18th after both Masses. Please join us in this celebra-tion. You may obtain dinner tickets before and after each Mass or purchase them at the door. Tickets are $15.00 which includes dinner, des-sert and coffee. COHOES - As part of the Co-hoes Heritage Day Celebra-tion on May 17, local railroad enthusiast, Jack Madden, will provide a walking tour of the first railroad through Co-hoes, the Rensselaer & Sara-toga Railroad, which was opened in 1835. The tour will be from the recently re-habilitated Black Bridge be-tween Green Island and Co-hoes, to Peebles Island and the bridge into Waterford. Interested walkers should meet at 11 am at the Van Schaick Mansion at 1 Van Schaick Ave, Cohoes and carpool to start on Green Island.
