USCCB DAILY AND SUNDAY READINGSAre you missing our song books with the Scripture Readings? For those who are comfortable, the readings can be found online using an application called Laudate – which is filled with dozens of worship aids, including a link directly to the USCCB Daily and Sunday Readings. There are many other Apps as well, and we are not endorsing one over the other; but I am familiar with this one and can assure it contains good content. While playing Candy Crush or shopping on eBay during Mass is frowned upon, following the Mass using your phone in these times is definitely acceptable.

2020-21 BAAThe official kick off for the BAA campaign is the weekend of July 11/12, 2020.
Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time July Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time July 5 20205 2020
In the gospel this weekend, we hear a prayer from Jesus and it tells us much about His relationship with God. It tells us that God is Father and Lord of earth and heaven and Creator of everything He has made. His love is also pointed to every person made in His image and likeness, which means He is the source of all human life! And it is through Jesus Christ, we have access to God the Father and we know Him personally!
We hear also about a yoke: the Jewish people would use the image of a yoke to express complete submission to God. Yokes were made to fit oxen and other animals so they can pull together.
Jesus also says that His “burden is light”. No burden is too heavy when it’s given and carried in love. Jesus offers a spiritual kingdom that offers joy, peace, removal of sins and eternal life!
The yoke of Christ’s kingdom frees us from the “weight” of sin and gives us a “weight” of love and glory in exchange.
May we embrace this “yoke” that frees us from sin, and trust in God’s love and submit ourselves totally to His plan for our lives!• Pray for Pope Francis and those who lead the Church,
especially Bishop Brennan.
• Pray for those affected by natural disasters and violence (COVID-19 pandemic; violence due to racism; India).
• Pray for Robert White Jr. and Greg Wolf, who passed away last week; may they rest in peace.
• St. Mary’s had a Finance Council Meeting; details will be in the bulletin
• Pray for “Those who won our independence… valued liberty as an end and as a means. They believed liberty to be the secret of happiness and courage to be the secret of liberty.” ~ Louis D. Brandeis
While you enjoy some precious, well-deserved free-time, take a moment to reflect on the freedoms we’re fortunate to experience in this country every single day.
Have a blessed and safe 4th of July! Fr. Vince
Prayer for Independence Day (July 4) God, source of all freedom,
this day is bright with the memory of those who declared that life and liberty
are your gift to every human being. Help us to continue a good work begun long ago.
Make our vision clear and our will strong: that only in human solidarity will we find liberty,
and justice only in the honor that belongs to every life on earth.
Turn our hearts toward the family of nations: to understand the ways of others,
to offer friendship, and to find safety only in the common good of all.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. R/. Amen.

WEEKEND SACRAMENTAL CELEBRATIONSThis weekend Father Vince will baptize Peter William Landes, son of Samuel and Michelle Landes. May your baptism be filled with blessings and love, and be a glimpse of the exciting journey that lies ahead of you.
THE CHASM THAT DIVIDES USWe live continuously with a chasm between the haves and the have-nots, the healthy and the sick, the smart and the dull, the gorgeous and the ugly, the slim and the fat, the lucky and the cursed. It’s what we mean by “the world.” The question is how deep and wide this chasm should be allowed to become. The wider it is, the more unreal we become; the deeper, the more painful is the chasm. If we don’t work now to narrow the gap between the rich and the poor it will increase exponentially and we will be irreparably divided. In Gospel wisdom, the end is always a beginning. A change of heart, in the hard of heart, is the beginning of compassion, of active concern for the needs of others. When the spring of compassion is released, the human chasm, the ego, the isolated self, is reconnected. In reconnection (the literal meaning of the word religion), the great healing happens.
MEMORIAL OF THE FIRST MARTYRS OF THE MEMORIAL OF THE FIRST MARTYRS OF THE CHURCH OF ROMECHURCH OF ROME
Holiness involves dying a little each day
Tertullian, one of the first Christian theologians, wrote: “The blood of the martyrs is the seed
of the church.” The church’s first martyrs are commemorated a day after the feast of Saints Peter and Paul – who tradition says were also victims of Nero’s slaughter, beginning in 64.
And martyrs aren’t meant to be just a memory but also a model. Look no further than first
responders and essential workers to see modern examples of those following the model of self-sacrifice for the sake of others. Offer a sign of
gratitude for their service.
