The print fees CED charges were submitted and approved between the years 2010 - 2012.
Since 2012 no printing increases have been submitted to the MSF Committee.
All increases (other than sales taxes) in our costs have been absorbed through cuts in ot her areas; sales taxes are changed as required by Law.

Computer Labs
All CED Student computers in labs, studios, & lounges have similar hardware & peripherals and the same software image
No food in Computer Labs– You will be publically kicked out of the Computer Lab – Do it multiple times & your Computer/Print accounts and Lab access
will be terminated without a refund!– Drinks with lids okay (for now)– But you have to clean up after yourself or we may stop all drinks as well
Instruction in Computing Labs
Vacate 5 minutes prior to the start of a scheduled instructional activity
• Students must not remain in the Lab if they are not taking the class
• Computing Lab schedules are posted on the web: http://ced.berkeley.edu/resources/computing/lab-schedule/
How to make fellow Students & our Lab Manager upset
• Locking multiple Lab computers – generally for rendering, use the rendering farm (it will render faster than our computers)
• Pulling power plugs – and thus powering down all the computers or printers
• Saving to the computer hard disk and filling up the drive so that computers cannot function – this will cause the computers to “break” and the only solution is to reimage and all your data (and anyone else’s) will be lost!
Computer Lab Logout (20 minutes)• This is a security issue• If you leave a computer while still
logged in, people will sit in your seat and access your data including:– Health info (HIPPA)– Credit card info (PCI)– Social networking & Personal info (PI)– Print Accounts ($)– Student data (FERPA)– Etc.
• Computers log users out completely if the mouse or keyboard has not moved for 20 minutes
• There is a 2 minute warning• You will loose all unsaved data and
all applications will close
Bypassing Security/Access • There are consequences for trying to hack into, bypass, or
compromise CED’s access, computer or printer systems, or security in general:– Publically kicked out of the facility, loosing your work– Loosing your Computer Lab & Printing access (without refund)– Loosing access to ALL CED facilities for a semester (without refund)– Reported to Campus’s Student Conduct for further disciplinary actions
This is NOT
okay!

– Must be done in person at #477– If you leave funds in your accounts beyond 5/31

SUMMER: Same process as Spring
Every semester someone …Gets in trouble by not following one of two DFL rules
• Users must watch Laser Cutters at all times– We have had several fires caused by distracted users– Not following this rule will mean potential loss of DFL use– Leaving the DFL with a Laser operational is immediate loss of DFL use
• Do not allow non-authorized people into the DFL– Ask staff first if you want to bring someone in– If a Grad allows an UG entry during Grad times, both will loose DFL access
The policies regarding DFL use is based on the imperative that we keep the machines operational; since these are limited resources, when they are down everyone suffers and the costs to repair, maintain and replace are high
