From The President & CEO

Scott BatulisPresident & CEO

This month, as we celebrate our healthcare professionals, I want to thank each and every one of you for your commitment to serving our patients and dedication to your profession. We have many people going above and beyond every day and, this time of year, we are proud to highlight their accomplishments.

Our Medical Staff and Board of Directors honored Dr. Nader Okby and Dr. Karen Finnigan with the 2015 Leadership Award. Additionally, we also recognized

51 physicians who have served our patients for 30 or more years with the 2015 Lifetime Achievement Award. All were recently honored at the annual Physician Recognition Reception. My thanks to these outstanding physicians for reinforcing the values and mission of our hospital. Their service, guidance, leadership and expert delivery of healthcare services to our community should serve as an inspiration to all of us.

Every year we have the privilege of recognizing an employee with the Star of the Year Award. This year special congratulations are extended to Jesse Wright, a team member of our Maintenance Department. Jesse is a dedicated and hard-working member of our staff who illustrated strength and courage during a difficult situation this past year. I appreciate Jesse’s focus and commitment to patient and visitor safety and I am proud to have him on our team.

We honored many employees this month at our annual Employee Service Awards Dinner. Special congratulations are extended Alice Bach Bast, Lauretta Colgan, Lynda Kerrigan, Emma Lee, Michael Thompson and Lora Wagner for celebrating 40 years of

service to our organization. This is an outstanding accomplishment and a true testament to their loyalty and dedication.

Congratulations to our nursing staff. Seven Orange Regional nurses were nominated for Hudson Valley Magazine’s Excellence in Nursing 2015 Awards. Nearly 50 nurses were nominated in the region and among them were Orange Regional’s own Jane Giganti, Jayne O’Malley, Karen Huslinger, Tammie Jollie, Jeanne Price, Colleen Minnock and Katherine Bloss. Scott Batulis, President & CEO

Star Of The Year – Jesse Wright In conjunction with National Hospital Week, Orange Regional announced its Star of the Year, Jesse Wright. Jesse is a Grounds Mechanic with the Maintenance Department and has been employed with the organization over 5 years. He was chosen for his diligence and hard work, but most significantly for tending to an emergency situation that involved a visitor to the hospital last year. Jesse goes above and beyond for patients and their families during their time at the hospital. “Jesse is most deserving of this award and is a daily example of what it means to care for patients and visitors in a non-clinical way. Each and every one of us is responsible for the patient experience and I am proud of Jesse’s dedication to our mission,” says Orange Regional’s President & CEO, Scott Batulis. The Star of the Year Award is presented by Orange Regional’s All-Star Employee Recognition Committee. Throughout the year, the Committee selects and recognizes staff members who go above and beyond on a daily basis to provide quality healthcare to our community.

Starlight Grant Helps To Create Child Friendly Atmosphere

Orange Regional commissioned local artist, Ron Gee, to paint three diagnostic imaging rooms, following a $30,000 grant from Starlight Children’s Foundation NY*NJ*CT. The mural paintings will use a country side theme with hot air balloons in support of Orange Regional’s mission to create a child-friendly environment for pediatric patients who utilize diagnostic imaging services. The complete transformation of the selected diagnostic imaging rooms will not only include wall mural paintings but also a sky factory and multisensory distractions. The grant was secured by Child Life Specialist, Michelle Ferguson, in consultation with the Foundation. Starlight’s programs and services are designed to improve the life and health of kids and families around the world. For more information, contact Art Curator, Sarah Johnson, at 333-2385 or [email protected].

Step Into Fitness

On May 9, Orange Regional employees participated in a Mudderella, a 5–7 mile muddy course that includes 12–15 obstacles. It was a true athletic challenge, designed to test each participant’s all-around fitness. Pictured are members of our Executive Team as well as members of our nursing staff and risk management department. These ladies demonstrated how much fun fitness can be as the rocked the muddy terrain and obstacles to show all competitors that ORMC staff members are committed and dedicated to anything they take on! If you are interested in Orange Regional’s Step Into Fitness Program that is held Monday-Friday on the main campus, please contact Alicia Remey at [email protected] or Peggy Cronin at [email protected]. Do not be intimidated about joining! Our program is tailored for all fitness levels - and the price is right, too.As part of Orange Regional’s commitment to health and wellness, the Employee Health and Wellness Department has

again partnered with a local farm, J. Glebocki farms, who will be offering Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) shares for employees to purchase this summer and fall. A CSA is a relationship between farmers and members. In return for an annual fee, which helps cover production costs of the farm, CSA members receive a weekly share of the highest quality harvest during the growing season. The cost is $525 for 22 weeks of fresh produce delivered every Thursday to the Employee entrance. We used J. Glebocki farms last year and it produced a very robust and varied crop.
