WORD FROM THE PASTORToo dark, Light is available

The true light that gives light to everyone was cominginto the world. He was in the world, and though the worldwas made through him, the world did not recognize him.(John 1:9-10)

One of the questions that is often asked by people who don’tacknowledge the Lordship of Jesus Christ is this, ‘If there is a HolyGod who is Sovereign and Almighty, why is there so much evil whichis only getting worse’. While the question seems valid, let us lookbeyond the superficial. Here are three important truths about lightand how ‘we’ choose daily to let the ‘light shine’ or ‘be lost in darkness’.

1. Light preceded darkness

The biblical standpoint begins with the very first verse in the Biblewhich says, ‘In the beginning, God created heaven and earth’. This isGenesis 1:1. Verse 2 says, ‘Now the earth was formless andempty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit ofGod was hovering over the waters.’ Now onto the darkness of sin, weall know that sin came as a rebellion against the holiness of God. Theperfect creation marred by disobedience. However, no amount of sincan negate the existence of light, and no amount of darkness canquench the power of the light of Jesus Christ.

2. Light prevails over darkness

Now moving forward to the deeds of sin over history in the Bible allthe way to Jesus and His death on the cross. Isaiah 53 is a beautifuldescription of how Jesus, who is the Light of the world came into theworld of sin and darkness and conquered even death through His owndeath on the cross of Calvary. Yes, it is true that the grievous natureof sin is only getting worse by the day and what we see in the worldtoday, ‘seems’ like there is no hope. The very words of Jesus as it is

recorded in Revelation 3:20, ‘Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eatwith that person, and they with me. Remember, ‘Light is available’.

3. Light punishes darkness

Philippians 2:10 says, ‘that at the name of Jesus every knee shouldbow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth’. Hopelessness is acommon word spoken about the events of the world. But in the messageof the bible, there is hope for the righteous which goes beyond thisworld. In Revelation 22:11, we read, ‘Let the one who does wrongcontinue to do wrong; let the vile person continue to be vile; let theone who does right continue to do right; and let the holy personcontinue to be holy.’ On the cross, it ‘seemed’ like light had lost todarkness. But thanks be to the faithfulness of our God, ‘on Eastermorning, LIGHT WON’.

Walk with Jesus, do not get distracted, disappointed or deflated, inChrist Jesus, we are always more than conquerors.

Wishing you and yours a Happy Easter and a blessed month of April.

“Veni, Vidi, Vici”‘I came; I saw; I conquered.’

This phrase quoted has been attributed to the Roman conqueror JuliusCaesar after his stupendous victories far and wide. History recordsthe grand annals of mighty rulers who founded their kingdoms onforce, ambition and pride. Where are they now? Their kingdomshave vanished as froth on the waves, consigned to the dusty pages ofhistory.

Jesus came, He saw, He conquered and reigns supreme, alive andglorious in a believer’s heart. Two thousand years have gone by andyet His words, His acts, His purpose, His truth are all marching on. Heis the central motivating force in mankind’s meaningful living.

No life on earth has drawn so much thought and discussion as this“Solitary Life”. Demons have fled, and hard hearts have broken toserve and sacrifice for Him. The impact of Jesus on Man can never befathomed.

Since the Fall of Man, our Almighty God has been unfolding a grand, unerring plan to redeem and save his most treasured and belovedcreation from eternal doom. His everlasting gift of his dearly belovedSon was the sole purpose of our Lord entering the sin-stained world. Our Lord joined the ranks of humanity and walked in humble fellowshipwith wretched sinners like us.

The first recorded words of Jesus were spoken when he was a boy of12 in the temple. He said to his parents, “How is it that ye sought Me?Wist ye not that I must be about my Father’s business?” Till the endhe was perfectly faithful to his Heavenly Father.

Our Master had an extraordinary impact on the simple and honestcrowd. They were always about Him, listening, liking, and applauding. He was immensely popular. We hear “All men are seeking Thee,”“the multitude thronged around Him” “All the city was gathered at thedoor”. They ran to Him from every city “His mother and brethrencould not come to Him”. He had to feed five thousand people whofollowed Him. The woman with the issue of blood came behind Himthrough the milling crowds to touch the hem of His garment. He drewthem like a magnet and they loved Him. Children nestled in His arms.

The Pharisees were perturbed and perplexed as to how they couldstall this swelling support. “If we let him alone all men will believe onhim” they said. But the time would come as He knew it would, whenHe would be misunderstood and ruthlessly opposed. The scribesopenly accused Jesus of blasphemy and they accused Him of being inleague with Beelzebub (Mark 3: 22-27). Jesus refuted their absurdcharge “How can Satan cast out Satan?”

The tide turned against our Lord. At Nazareth, his people did notunderstand him - his disciples frequently misunderstood him. Thefickle crowds that pressed upon him for their own physical needs lefthim. His family pointed their terrible finger on him almost apologizingfor his ‘madness’.

No one could have experienced or understood the depths of His painand loneliness. Who could ever understand His sublime goodness, wisdom, righteousness? Calmly He spoke in the plainest words of thecertainty of the Cross. His disciples could not understand this direfulprediction. They associated Messiahship with power – not sacrifice.

“Take, eat; this is My body”. The Lord’s supper is the mysterious, deeply valued and loved Sacrament of Christ’s Church. He was callingus to look at the Cross. He was calling us repentant sinners into Hisfellowship. Jesus faced the Cross, accepted it and made it thetouchstone of all Christian faith. It gave divine power to all that Hehad said and did. “I came that they may have life and may have itabundantly”.

“The Resurrection is the Great Divide of human history”. Because Heis risen and lives, He has unique authority. It is with this authority thatHe appoints us to be His fellow workers: out of this comes the GreatCommission. The Gospel according to Matthew ends with a triumphantshout: “Lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.”

With joy and victory, we proclaim, “We are more than conquerorsthrough Him that loved us.” Romans 8:37

“He came; He saw; He conquered”.

BREAKFAST WITH JESUS

Jesus had risen! The disciples are overjoyed, but also bewildered.Peter, James, John and a few other disciples return to the comfort ofa known profession –fishing. They spend the whole dreary nightcatching nothing. Early in the morning, Jesus stands on the shore andasks them to cast their net on the right side of the boat and thedisciples are unable to haul the net because it is so heavy with thecatch! Then it dawns on them! It was the risen Saviour! Peter plungesinto the water first and reaches the shore first, followed by the others.Jesus has breakfast ready for them – grilled fish and fresh bread. Hehimself gives the bread to them, then the fish. As dawn awakens aslumbering world, the Saviour calls His children to have breakfastwith Him, when He would break the Word for us; He would fill us andsatisfy us with a strengthening, comforting meal. As dawn breaks, inthe silence and quiet, the Shepherd reveals things to us, peeling offlayer after layer, teaching us the hidden meanings, giving us hope anddirection. Isaiah 50:4 says,”He awakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being taught”. Nothing can be morerewarding than an early morning ‘quiet time’ with Jesus . He is theBread of Life and whoever feeds on Him will never go hungry.

It is again in the early hours of the “Resurrection morning’ that ananguished Mary Magdalene runs to the tomb and sees it empty. Asshe stands crying outside, she sees Jesus, mistaking Him for thegardener, till He calls her name and she joyfully responds to Him,crying out ‘Rabboni’. The wonder and glory of that Easter morn areoften replicated as Jesus manifests Himself to us in many ways. Aswe seek Him, He reveals Himself to us, making us call out toHim’Teacher’ in awe and reverence! Memories of a blessed Eastermorning service organised by the Christian Medical College, on theslopes of a small hillock near Bagayam are still vivid. We climbed upthe hill while it was yet dark, on a small pathway lit by flaming torchesand seated ourselves on boulders and flat stones as the Pastorconducted a solemn service and later served us the communion breadand wine. As the service drew to a close, we could see the shimmeringrays of the early morning sun bathing the sleepy town below in myriad

hues. As we climbed down we felt replete, full of humble gratitudeand adoration for the Risen Redeemer.

Early morning time is the best time to catch the gentle whispersof the Saviour, when He directs and instructs, consoles and comforts, strengthens and empowers. The cacophony of worldly noises caneasily drown His whispers and divert our attention. Before we getcaught in the frenetic, hectic activity of day to day life we are to stillourselves and listen to Him. It is then that His voice can be heardclear and distinct.”My sheep listen to my voice; I know them and theyfollow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; noone can snatch them out of my hand”. John 10: 27,28

We see our Creator God at the zenith of His creative skills in theglorious sunrises, which are a gift from Him drawing us closer to himin awestruck wonder! Recently, we were fortunate enough to see therising sun in all its splendour at Kanyakumari. As the four of us,thePachecos, David and Jenny, my husband and I stood in hushedamazement , the golden orb slowly emerged over the edge of theocean and the shining rays splashed an array of pinks and oranges, illumining the darkened sky! ‘How Great Thou Art” sang our hearts inunison. Another beautiful sunrise evoking much wonder and awe ,was on our trip to The United States. As the plane landed at Frankfurten route to New York, we saw a spectacular sky, resplendent withdifferent hues merging into a tapestry of colour. I am sure all of ushave experienced the joy of an early morning walk with the birdstwittering and the cool breeze softly brushing our cheeks. Our Lordand Saviour stands each morning calling out to us, inviting us to ‘comeunto Him’ and rest on Him- to have a breakfast of fresh bread andgrilled fish with Him. Can you hear Him call? What will your responsebe?

Gujarat Mission Trip

INTRODUCTION (Rev. PAUL ANBARASU)

This is a brief presentation of what 19 of us from our churchexperienced for 3 days in one of the Mission fields that our church hasbeen praying and supporting through Global Partners Movement (GPM)for several years. We thank God Almighty who enabled us to see forourselves, His manifestations in southern Gujarat and parts of Damanand Northwest Maharashtra. Those who came with us have shared inthis article about specific areas of our Mission Trip experience. I’msure you will be inspired and maybe encouraged to join us in suchfuture endeavours. Here we go…

1. CHURCH PLANTING (Raju Narayanan & Victor Venkatrangham)

One of the highlights of the trip was our participation in the ChurchDedication at Patali in Maharashtra. The Journey was worth it to seethe believers of the Patali Church and the pastors who were gatheredto welcome us in their own traditional manner of singing, dancing andgarlanding all of us. The newly constructed church was dedicated byour Pastor, Rev. Isaac Johnson. During the prayer time, we witnessedthe men of the church opening their mouths and in unison, prayingloudly and fervently. At Umarkui in Gujarat, we witnessed thefoundation laying for a ‘pucca’ church. There are already over 100believers in the present temporary mud building. Pastor Amrutlal Moryais pastoring in this village for the past 7 years.

2. CHILDREN’S HOMES (Prasad Oommen & Sujatha Prasad)

As part of our trip, we visited the Peith Boys Home, Kaprada GirlsHome and Khergam Boys Home. The group thus covered mission fieldsin Gujarat, Maharashtra and the Union territory of Havelli. At all thehomes, Mrs Sabrina Siga spoke about the transforming power of theGospel through the presence and power of the Lord Jesus and childrenmade beautiful butterflies. The children in the Homes were verydisciplined and were doing well in their studies.

During our interaction with the leaders, it was very encouraging toknow that some of the children from the Homes had become localleaders in their panchayats and were influencing the governance oftheir areas and were good Christian witnesses. Peith Boys Homefunctioned from a rented place without electricity and toilet facility;Kaprada Girls Home from its own building and Khergam Boys Homefrom a leased premise- leased from the CNI church. The children inall the homes actively and enthusiastically took part making beautifulbutterflies and other activities. They expressed their gratitude bywishing each one of us ‘Salaam’. We praise God for His faithfulnessand for the leaders of the homes.

3. MEDICAL CAMPS (Drs. ANITA CHELLIAH AND PUVIN RODRICKS)

We as the medical team consisting of a medical doctor and a dentistwere able to conduct screenings, prescribing them the availablemedicines that we had. We were able to serve many of them whocame to us with various illness ranging from the common cold to jointproblems, cough, skin diseases, many were having nutritionaldeficiency, poor oral hygiene and so on. It brought us immense joy tosee them having hope in Christ. We give all the glory and honour toChrist, for we can only treat but ultimately God gives the healing.

4. BAPTISMS (PHILOMENA KANAGARAJ AND YESIA KUTTY)

In a remote place, halfway up a mountain, there is a river flowingdown and with only 4 feet water in the river-bed, Pastor Rekha Benand her Assistant, led our team to witness baptism of 11 new believers. One by one, those who had committed to get Baptized walked silentlyinto the river water. The local Pastor baptized all of them. There wasno singing because we did not want to draw any unnecessary attention. We met all the eleven later and there was a grand service and BroGeorge Koshy, the Senior missionary in that area spoke to the believers.

5. HOSPITALITY (PREETHI CHELLIAH AND VIJI SANTHOSHAM)

The mission trip to Gujarat was simply amazing and we enjoyedexcellent hospitality from our fellow believers in the tribal areas. Onthe first day, at the dedication of a church, we were welcomed bygorgeously dressed men and women dancing to the tune of a drumbeat. We also began to tap our feet and ultimately joined them dancing.Wherever we went, they made us feel so special by garlanding usand giving beautiful roses to us. They were gracious hosts treating usroyally. It is not merely in what they did or gave but to see that they

did it with genuine love. Within their limited means, they ensured thatwe were provided. We never saw one without a smile on their facesand across all ages, the joy of Jesus was very evident.

6. WORSHIP (JOSHUA CHELLIAH & ROSELIN JOHNSON)

Praise and worship are central in our faith in Jesus Christ. We witnessedthe way the believers, as simple as they seemed, expressed themselvesin worship with one accord without any inhibitions, singing joyfully, loudly and untiringly. This reminded us as to how the bible talks abouthow all people worshipped in one accord in the early church. Thepassion with which they offered their praises to God left us speechless. They genuinely gave their best to God even in the midst of their simpleliving conditions. This is something that all of us can learn and growin. Their simplicity yet sincere love for Jesus inspired us to join themin worshipping God in unsophisticated manner by dancing and clappingour hands. All of these gave us pure great joy.

7. TRAVEL & FOOD (JEBASINGH JOTHI & CHRISTIANNA)

When we signed up to go on this Mission trip, we knew that we wouldsee tough terrains and interior villages. But what took us by surprisewas the fact that in all places that travelling in a van was difficult, missionaries have been toiling for Jesus for several decades, buildingthe body of Christ. We travelled through South east Gujarat, Northwest Maharashtra and Daman & Diu. Our days stretched from 9 amto 10 pm with at least 1/3rd of them spent in going from one missioncentre to another. We were able to get a glimpse of the kind of placeswhere the people live and what they eat. We have nothing to complainwhere we are and we appreciated how the believers were content intheir places and living conditions.

8. CHILDREN’S ACTIVITIES (SABRINA SIGA & JULIA SANTHOSHAM)

During the mission trip there was a planned visit to 3 children’s homestotalling 100 children. A story was told about Joseph. how through allhis trials, betrayals etc., he steadfastly kept his trust and eyes on theGod of Israel alone. God took him through many situations and teststo help Joseph mature in every way. We also taught the children as tohow a caterpillar metamorphoses into a beautiful butterfly when naturehas its way, so too when we allow God to guide us and trust him hewill bless us. An art activity of a butterfly was done in all 3 centresusing a butterfly and an ice cream stick as its body and poster colours.Dropping 2 or 3 colours in sploshes, we made a 3rd colour by pressing

the 2 wings together and opening them out again. The children enjoyedthese activities and so did all of us seeing the joy on their faces.

CONCLUSION (REV. ISAAC JOHNSON)

I always marvel how God who gives a thought guides us wonderfullyto see the reality of the vision. I remember talking to Joshua andAnita Chelliah about wanting to have a mission trip to Gujarat wherewe are already supporting a missionary, Sis. Rekha Ben. They in turnconnected with Bro. Johnson from Global Partners Movement (GPM)and this blossomed into the Mission Trip that 18 individuals participatedand we come with renewed vision of God’s work, God’s people andGod’s mandate for us. I thank all those who came and I pray that suchtravels will happen annually for many more to – COME, SEE, INVOLVEand BE INSPIRED. All Glory to God who gave us this blessed opportunity.

Rejoice! It’s Easter(Read Phil 4:4-7, Luke 15:10, Isa 61:10)

Rejoice in the Lord, rejoice always,Rejoice! I repeat, evermore;Jesus who died for our sins arose,No tears need we shed anymore.

It was to save us, lost in our sins,Our Saviour bled, suffered and died;Rejoice! He now lives, no more to die,And always is close by our side.

Rejoice in the Lord, rejoice I say!It was to bring joy Jesus came; When burdened with sin His mercy claim,He hears all who call on His name.

‘There’s great joy in heaven’, our Lord said,‘Should one sinner trust and repent.’Turn now from sin and rejoice always,With Jesus go where you are sent.

Effects of food adulteration on humanhealth... Part - 2

“Doctors treat but Jesus heals”

What is adulteration?

· Adulteration is the process of adding unwanted substances tothe food, with similar appearance/colour for making profits.

· Adulteration is very common today and the most commonlyadulterated food product is milk.

· Adulteration lowers the quality of food and sometimes, toxicchemicals are also added which can be hazardous to health.

· The products are marketed in a tricky manner, which is usuallycheating the customers.

Here is a list of most common adulterants in India:

1. Milk

A 2012 study conducted by the FSSAI (Food Safety and StandardsAuthority of India) across 33 states found that milk in India wasadulterated with diluted water, detergent, fat and even urea.

Some of the adulterants that are used in milk are water, chalk, urea, caustic soda and skimmed milk, while Khoya is adulterated with paper, refined oil and skimmed milk powder.

The level of adulteration in milk is dangerous to so many levels andhas the highest chance of causing stomach disorders.

2. Tea/Coffee

Tea and coffee are two most used beverages in India, and thus highlyadulterated. Tea leaves are usually adulterated with same colouredleaves, some might not even be edible. Several cases of liver infectionacross the country have been reported due to consuming adulteratedtea.

14

Page 19: CONTENTS 2019.pdfCONTENTS Word from the Pastor - Rev. Isaac Johnson 3“Veni, Vidi, Vici” - Usha George 5Breakfast with Jesus - Chitra Bennett 7Bible Quiz No.99 - April 2019 - Usha

Coffee seeds, on the other hand are adulterated with tamarind seeds, mustard seeds and also chicori. These adulterants are the main causeof diarrhoea.

3. Wheat and other food grains

Everybody knows that wheat is very commonly adulterated with ergot,a fungus containing poisonous substances and is extremely injuriousto health.

4. Vegetables

Beware of the shiny vegetables! Yes, adulteration of vegetables is innews for quite some time now. Different coloured and texturedvegetables are often coloured with different dyes and substances. These vegetables are mostly adulterated with malachite green, achemical dye which is known to cause Cancer (Carcinogenic).

Common adulterants in fruits and vegetables are oxytocin, sachharin, wax, calcium carbide and copper sulphate.

5. Sweets

Many Indian sweets are covered with a silver foil during festivals.According to Indian regulations, silver must be 99.9 per cent pure if itis used as a food ingredient.

6. Ice cream

Ice cream is manufactured in extremely cold chamber where fat ishardened and several harmful substances are added. Also a kind ofgum is added which is sticky and slow melting. This gum is obtainedby boiling animal parts like tail, the nose, the udder etc.

Purpose of Life Part 19

Logical Reasoning - part 2

We reasoned out in our earlier write ups that if God had gone aheadwith the creation in spite of knowing that He would have to sacrificeHis own son as a sacrificial Lamb (1Peter 1:18-20) to redeem themankind that would fall, which He would have definitely known throughHis foreknowledge (Isaiah 46:10), then He would surely have had adefinite plan in creation.

How did God create what He created?

In the first chapter of the book of Genesis we find that God createdeverything from nothing by His mere word: “Let there be”.

“And God said, Let there be light, and there was light”. Genesis 1:3

In fact all the other creations have been created only by that means. However, man was not created from nothing but was formed out ofthe dust of the ground, not by mere word but by breathing into hisnostrils God’s breath to make him a living being. From these actionsof God we can conclude that man was not to be like any of God’s othercreations but special.

“the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground andbreathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became aliving being”. Genesis 2:7

Assignment for Mankind.

God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase innumber; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea andthe birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on theground.” Genesis 1 :26-28

From the above scripture passage we find that God created man toincrease in numbers and rule over His other creations.

16

Page 21: CONTENTS 2019.pdfCONTENTS Word from the Pastor - Rev. Isaac Johnson 3“Veni, Vidi, Vici” - Usha George 5Breakfast with Jesus - Chitra Bennett 7Bible Quiz No.99 - April 2019 - Usha

Creation – Man’s Place and Time on Earth

We have been suggesting in our earlier write ups that we must askquestions (Jer 33:3) and seek for answers as only man has beengiven the intelligence to think and ask and not God’s other creations.

How can God expect mankind to increase in numbers and getaccommodated on Earth especially when it is small in size? Further,we usually keep our children with us in our homes. Heaven is God’shome. Then why should God not keep us there in heaven but prepare“Earth”, a separate place and keep mankind away from heaven - God’sabode?

Let us ponder as how God manages the limited space on Earth toaccomplish the plan?

From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabitthe whole earth; and he determined the times set for them andthe exact places where they should live. Acts 17:26

The above scripture passage reveals that God had determined theperiod of our life (the life span of men) and the exact place of stay onthis earth for each of us. God is bringing us in batches so that limitedspace available on earth would still be sufficient to handle the wholeof mankind.

Illustration.

For an example consider this illustration. Compared to a wedding hallthe dining hall could be small and yet it would serve the purpose asguests can be served in batches. Similarly Earth, even though smallcompared to heaven, would be sufficient to accommodate the entiremankind if they are sent batch after batch. As how the wedding guestsvacate their place after getting served for the next batch, in mankindtoo one generation leaves its place through physical death for thenext generations to get accommodated on earth.

If Physical death is inevitable, then why should God send ushere to earth?

We know that whoever is born on earth would surely die because ofthe “original sin” brought about by Adam through his act ofdisobedience. Then why should God keep sending us here on to earthknowing very well that each one of us who comes would surely die?We will not send anyone to a place if we know for sure that they

would die, then why should God keep sending mankind to earth whenHe knows we would die?

Thus we can infer for sure that God never intended mankind shouldstay here on earth for eternity but for a brief period of time at thespecified places preordained by Him.

Unless and otherwise God had a plan He would not have made it thisway. God would obviously be wanting to achieve something veryprofound through us during this brief period of time when each manwould be living on earth. We must ponder on this and seek for divinerevelations as it would be the “purpose of life”.

To continue.
