Cor Christi (“The Heart of Christ”) invites high school

students to a living encounter with the foundational

teachings and practices of the Catholic faith. This new

initiative is born from the desire of a group of young

priests and other dedicated believers to offer a new

generation — through an intensive summer experience

— the basics of the adventure of faith.

Who is the Cor Christi Institute? The Cor Christi Institute will be led by a group that is as passionate about their Catholic faith as they are about helping students grow in theirs.

Cor Christi Faculty & Staff:Monsignor James Shea is president of the University of Mary. Before coming to Mary, he served as chaplain and teacher at St. Mary’s Central High School in Bismarck and Trinity High School in Dickinson.

Father Justin Waltz serves as the Delegate of the Bishop for Catholic Education and as pastor of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Minot.

Father Joshua Waltz serves as director of vocations for the Diocese of Bismarck and as an instructor at the University of Mary.

Father Jadyn Nelson serves as president of Bishop Ryan High School in Minot.

Father Kregg Hochhalter serves as associate pastor of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dickinson and Dean of Students at Dickinson Trinity High School.

Christy Holgard is the director of residence life for St. Joseph’s and St. Scholastica’s Halls at the University of Mary.

Jerome Richter serves as vice president of public affairs for the University of Mary. Previously, he was chair of the department of religious studies and an award-winning teacher at St. Mary’s Central High School in Bismarck.

Nick Emmel is the director of the Cor Christi institute, a former youth director and an accomplished musician, teaches religious studies at St. Mary’s Central High School in Bismarck, North Dakota.

Katherine McFadden is a student at the University of Mary.

Hannah Houle is a labor and delivery nurse at St. Alexius, a University of Mary alumna, and currently studying for her master’s in bioethics.

What are the details?WhoCor Christi is open to students who will be entering grades 9, 10, 11, or 12 in the fall of 2018.

WhatThe Trinity, the Incarnation, the Sacraments. How to pray as a Catholic … how to live as a Catholic! The days will be intense and straightforward, filled from morning to night with serious study, good conversation, and wholesome friendship.

WhereHousing, meals, and all teaching and activities will be on the campus of the University of Mary in Bismarck, North Dakota.

WhenThe institute runs during your choice of two different weeks: From the morning of Monday, July 9, to Friday evenings graduation Mass with Bishop Kagan on July 13

From the morning of Monday, July 16, to the evening of Friday evenings graduation with Bishop Kagan on July 20.

How MuchThe registration fee is $200 per person, covering all expenses while on campus.

How do I register? Registrations are due by Friday, June 1, 2018, and must be accompanied by a letter of recommendation from the pastor of the participant’s home parish and fee payment. Packing and arrival instructions, release forms, and other details will be sent out in late June.

Conduct Agreement:Participation in the Cor Christi Institute is a privilege. Students who participate in such institutes are expected to conduct themselves appropriately and set a high standard of personal accountability. It is the desire of the coordinators, the University of Mary, and the Diocese of Bismarck that every student participating in the Cor Christi Institute refrains from inappropriate behavior and follows all rules and policies set forth. Failure to follow the rules and policies set forth by the coordinators of the Cor Christi Institute may result in expulsion from the institute (upon which the participant will be sent home at their own expense and will receive an incomplete for the program) and the cost of any property damage caused by a participant will be billed to the parent/guardian of said participant.

The purpose of this agreement is to document that both the student and their parent/guardian understand the expectations for the participants of the Cor Christi Institute and to promote a quality experience.
