Cork County Culture Night 2011

Cork County Council is delighted to be part of Culture Night 2011. This is the very first year that Cork County Council are undertaking the role of co-ordinating a county wide series of events and have programmed over one hundred events in towns and villages throughout the county.

Culture Night is about celebrating who we are, our cultural activities and our own cultural resources. We have been both astonished and delighted by the response of so many of our arts and cultural organisations who are giving their time to organise free public events in a wide range of settings.

As Mayor of Cork I wish to thank all the organisations and individuals that are taking part in this, the first Culture Night for County Cork. I would also like to acknowledge the financial support of the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht. My congratulations to the County Cork Culture Night organisers; Jade Hunt and Paula Hanley at the Arts Office in Cork County Council, without whom this event would not have been possible.

Culture Night is for everyone in the community to enjoy. All the events in the programme are free of charge. There really is something for everyone; so why not take this opportunity to see some of the great arts and cultural events taking place near you...

Cllr. Tim Lombard Mayor of the County of Cork

For ENGAGE Sarah will make a site specific installation/intervention for the Billiards Room at the Allin Institute.4.00pm - 6.00pm

Bernadette Cotter − Art Installation

For ENGAGE the artist will show a piece entitled ‘Dear Altar’. This work is a Rosary made up of fifty nine beads. Each ‘bead’ is a disc of clear perspex suspended from the ceiling. On each disc is an egg cup containing broken glass from alcohol bottles collected from the streets of San Francisco and Oakland where the artist lived. In place of a crucifix is the figure of the artist wearing a blue cloak with approximately 12,000 buttons stitched onto it. 4.00pm - 6.00pm
