The next big event at the Library will be a Mothers’ Day Tea in May 9th with tickets at $18 each. This month’s nature talk is about an Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee. The Library now has a free bi-weekly blood pressure clinic on Saturdays. In addition to the Director’s weekly tech classes at the Senior Center, the Library offers one-on-one tutoring on Tuesdays & Thursdays for anyone having problems with e-books, tablets, cell phones, et al. Check out the web site for details on all these events including the four book clubs, children’s programs, and a FREE piano concert with Stephanie Emberley on April 18th: Cotuitlibrary.org The Friends of the Cotuit Library Annual Plant, Bake and Treasure Sale will be held on Saturday, May 23rd. 8:30-12:30 at Freedom Hall, Main Street. Plan ahead for wonderful plants, herbs and flowers, fantastic baked goods, and unique and usable items for your home and garden. Cotuit Federated Church announces Eastertide: The Musical, a sermon series at Cotuit Federated Church during April and May. The series will use traditional lectionary texts besides the Broadway classics Jesus Christ Superstar, Les Miserables, Godspell, Lion King, Rent, Sound of Music, and Wicked. Everyone is welcome to attend worship at 10 am every Sunday. Give Blood: The Kraft Family Bloodmobile returns to Cotuit Federated Church on May 2, 9:30-1:30 pm. Blood donations will support Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Brigham Women's Hospital. Appointments and walk-ins are accepted. Call the church office for information or to schedule your appointment (508-428-6163). A Baggo Tournament to benefit the Pan Mass Challenge will be held on Saturday, May 2, at Cotuit Federated Church, High St., beginning at noon. $50 entry fee per team of 2 people...20-foot courts. The PMC donates 100% of every dollar to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through its Jimmy Fund. For information or to register, contact Tim Wakefield at [email protected] or 508-331-8512. The Cotuit Nursery School is accepting registrations for the 2015-2016 school year. Please mark these dates on your calendar: April 21st - Budget night; May 19th, Candidates night; May 26th Cotuit election; and May 27th, Cotuit Fire District Annual Meeting. The budgets of the Cotuit Fire Commissioners, Cotuit Water Department and the Cotuit Prudential Committee must be approved before the annual meeting on May 27th. Each committee has three elected members, one member elected each year for a three year term. The Cotuit Civic Association will host a program to discuss the proposed budget for each group on April 15, 2015 at Freedom Hall. The Cotuit Fire District initiated a new accounting system last year and the budgets for 2016 can now be easily compared to the actual expenses of previous years. After each committee chairman outlines their budget we will be able to ask questions. Come and be informed. Budget night - April 21st, Freedom Hall Refreshments 7:00 pm; Meeting starts at 7:30 pm. The Cotuit Civic Association and Jessica Rapp Grassetti, our Town Councillor, met with Tom Lynch, Barnstable Town Manager, and discussed our Concerns of Cotuit 2015. In the spirit that "a picture is worth a 1000 words”, Mr. Lynch and his Department Heads will again visit Cotuit to see our problems, Our theme this year is "Safety on our streets and sidewalks." We will host two educational programs, one in June and one in July to help make our Village safer for all. Chief Chris Olsen Cotuit Fire Department asks that I announce: the Fire Department continues to instruct CPR and first aid on the last Thursday of each month. The next class is April 30th. Please call 508-428-2210 to make reservations. Also there will be a "controlled burn" on Crocker Neck in early May. Dates have not been finalized, For the safety of all, PLEASE DO NOT FEED THE WILD ANIMALS. Cotuit seems to have a large population of wild turkeys and they can be aggressive this time of year. Cotuit Center for the Arts is proud to present One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. This classic play explores the boundaries between conformity and individuality, sanity and madness with a devastating effect. Pure, raw theater at its very best. Directed by Rick Martin. Opening Reception April 4th, 5:00-7:00 pm; Artist Talk at 5:00 pm. 2nd Annual Kentucky Derby Gala May 2nd, 3:00-7:00 pm: Join us for Cotuit’s inaugural Run for the Roses! Celebrate the Kentucky Derby Cotuit Style! We’ll have live betting, a hat parade and contest, photo ops with horses, surprise events and of course, mint juleps! The race will be broadcast live on our high definition 26 foot movie screen, so plan to join us and cheer your horse and jockey! Destined to become another annual event at the Center, the admission is only $20 and kids under 12 are admitted free. There will be opportunities for betting, the house taking 50% on everything (It is a fundraiser, after all!) and opportunities to win some serious cash!

The Barnstable Land Trust announces Tour de Barnstable – Sunday, May 17 – This unique 38.5 mile ride through all 7 villages benefits BLT’s efforts to preserve land in our town. Whale Walk – Saturday, April 18th, 1-2:00 pm Cape Cod is one of the finest spots on earth to view cetaceans from land. In winter, critically endangered North Atlantic right whales come to Cape Cod Bay to feed. In late spring/early summer, humpback, fin & minke whales arrive. Join BLT and Jesse Mechling from Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies to look for these gentle giants as they feed in the surrounding waters. $5 per person. Spring Beach Clean-up – Sunday, April 19th, 9:00 am-noon: Activities include trash pick up and dune fence installation. Meet at the lower parking lot. Endangered Piping Plovers scour the beach for the ideal spot to scratch their simple nests. Rare Spadefoot Toads rush to breed in ephemeral pools in the dunes. $7 for members, $9 for non-members/$5 & $7 for children. Pre-registration not required. Historical Society of Santuit & Cotuit (HSSC) Historical Book Club will meet Thursday, April 23th (NOTE DATE CHANGE) at the Cotuit Library, 7:00 pm, to discuss this month’s book “Empire of the Summer Moon” by S.C. Come join the Cahoon Museum of American Art with Bill Bourne, Head of Americana and Marine Art, and celebrate ship portraits from Antonio Jacobsen to modern day, Friday, April 24th: 4:30 – 5:30 pm. for a Gallery Talk about Antonio Jacobsen and the history of ship portrait painting. Opening Reception to follow at 5:30. The new temporary location of the Cahoon Museum of American Art is located at 30 Bates Road, Mashpee Commons. The Waldorf School of Cotuit announces Visiting Day in Early Childhood for Nursery and Kindergarten, May 13th, 1:30 pm.
