Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability Report 2014
intercargo-scandinavia.dk 5
Intercargo Scandinavia is a company, which the recent years
has experienced an expansive growth. This has generated new
market opportunities, where we as a company have been even
more focused on our impact on the external environment and
how to create shared value for our stakeholders and us. The
different areas of our responsibility increases as Intercargo
Scandinavia grows as a company. It is essential to keep in mind,
that we not only in our daily practice create transportation
solutions; we do also affect people, environment and society.
That is why we at Intercargo Scandinavia work hard to achieve
results but work even harder to maintain a good reputation and
interact responsibly with the surrounding environment. We feel
an obligation to respond to those environmental and societal
challenges that we face. We are therefore keen to approach
these challenges with a positive attitude towards the newest
technologies, innovative solutions and a transparent communi-
cation.
Our Coprorate Social Responsibility report for 2014 is the
second we publish and is our way to give our stakeholders an
insight in our results, objectives and the status on our various
CSR activities.
CSR is about development and the appreciation of the means
you have available, this mean you have to take responsibility for
those people you affect and show great respect for the limited
amount of resources there is accessible in the world today. We
have to be aware that we leave a footprint wherever we go and
we are responsible for making the best possible footprint in
order to secure a future for the next generations to come. We
are aware that CSR is a process and for each report, we set
new objectives in order to keep our focus on executing these
initiatives and reach the progress we wish to obtain. This last
year we have focused on customer relations, work environ-
ment, reducing CO2 emissions and have communicated more
about our procedures for securing and controlling food safety.
With this report we wish to show our stakeholders what we
have achieved within the last year and how we through our
different initiatives seek to have the most sustainable and
responsible approach to our business.

CSR STRATEGY
INTEGRATING ENVIRONMENTAL AND SOCIETAL CONCERNS
THE TEN PRINCIPLES OF UN GLOBAL COMPACT
Intercargo Scandinavia A/S
10 intercargo-scandinavia.dk
Intercargo Scandinavia has due to its business a lot of logis-
tic activities across Europe, and our growth the latest years
naturally requires an intensified focus on environmental issues.
Therefore we commit ourselves to reduce the consumption of
scarce resources and decrease CO2 emissions. We constantly
keep an eye on the newest technology and show respect for
our surroundings by developing strategies, procedures and
implement the best available solutions.
FROM ROAD TO RAILWAYIntercargo Scandinavia has a part of its CSR strategy inves-
ted in alternative transportation solutions, which contribute to
reduce CO2 emissions and eases the congested infrastructure
on Europe’s many roads and highways. Intercargo Scandinavia
has in the last couple of years converted a lot of routes into
a rail-and-road combination. This intermodal transportation
solution combined with ferry services show great results in the
reduction of the usage of fossil fuels. Intermodal transportation
gives us the opportunity to offer a more sustainable trans-
portations solution, which fits our high ethical standards and is
consistent with our objectives.
Our ambition is to increase the application of train transpor-
tation in our transportation processes. The results we have
achieved on the route between Italy and Denmark have been
promising and within the last year the transportation by train
have increased with 5%, which means that the intermodal
transportation solution now represent 30% of the activities on
the route between Italy and Denmark.
The strategy from road to railway has had a significant positive
impact on the infrastructure and emissions due to 30% of
the road activities had been switched to rail transportation.
This innovative alternative solution has spared the roads and
environment 360.000 km, which have gone from road to rail.
The trucks’ consumption of diesel fuel have been reduced with
133.333 litres per year, which means that Intercargo Scandi-
navia has reduced the emissions of the trucks CO2 with
353,3 ton1.
Our objective is to increase train transportation on the
Italy-Denmark route with 50% by 2016.
Furthermore in September 2014 we invested in another route
by train between the Benelux countries and Norway and we
have high expectations to achieve great results and switch
several trucks from road to rail in order to make transportation
through Europe more efficient and reduce CO2 emissions.
LOGISTIC COORDINATION We make a huge effort in co-ordinating our trucks so they al-
ways carry goods and always get loaded when empty. Through
our intelligent co-ordination system and GPS it is possible to
locate all goods and calculate how the transportation can be
most effective and how the routes can be as short as pos-
sible in order to reduce CO2 emissions and reduce overload
on the European infrastructure. We strive to fill up the trucks
and always have new loads of cargo ready for transportation
when other goods are loaded of the truck. In this way we avoid
empty-kilometres and unnecessary usage of diesel and thereby
reduce emissions.

ECO-DRIVINGWe see eco-driving as a good opportunity not only to meet the
requirements of the legislation but also to reach our objective
of integrating sustainable considerations in every aspect of the
transportation activities. Therefore we have investigated the
options of eco-driving education so the hauliers can be more
conscious about their behaviour when it comes to gearing,
speeding, breaking and planning the driving for each route they
commence. Our goal was to create an education programme in
eco-driving in 2014 but this has been postponed to next year
due to our extensive rebuilding at the head office in Hadsten,
Denmark. We see eco-driving as an extensive tool in our action
to reduce CO2 emissions and minimize pollution.
RESPONSIBLE USAGE OF ENERGYIntercargo Scandinavia seeks to use the most environmental
energy sources when possible. That is why we always switch
from using diesel to electricity when our refrigerated trailers
are not carried on lorries. This reduces consumption of fossil
fuels and thereby reduces emissions. In the spring 2014 our
Head Office in Hadsten went through and extensive rebuilding
where several square metres were added in order to match
our expansion. In this matter we also chose to rebuild some of
the frigo terminal and optimize the insulation in the walls of the
cooling storage. The new insulation is expected to reduce the
energy consumption and optimize the cooling process.
ENVIRONMENTAL REGULATORY APPROVALIntercargo Scandinavia has according to Danish legislation
inspections performed by supervisory authorities that visit
the site now and then. These visits have shown that we have a
great standard and observe the regulations on the area within
emissions and noise. It is in our concern that neighbours are
not annoyed with the noise from the trucks and that society is
not burdened with operations in the transportation business.

FOOD SAFETY Intercargo Scandinavia has a high level of controls and proce-
dures to secure quality and food safety. One of our goals were
to get the ISO 22000 certification, which is a standardisation
that demonstrate the company’s ability to handle food and
secure quality. We have chosen to follow the overall guidelines
and principles described in the ISO 22000, but have due to
our size of company initiated our own internal quality system
instead of participating in the International ISO certification.
Intercargo Scandinavia’s quality system for handling food and
secure quality and food safety will be implemented within 2014.
We at Intercargo Scandinavia are aware of the provisions and
cautions we as a company have to take when transporting
foods and temperature-dependent goods. Therefore we take
no risks when transporting sensible cargo and always have an
excessive focus on temperature and sanitary conditions. It is in
our interest that we deliver goods in a perfect condition and do
not compromise food safety and peoples health. That is why we
constantly are in contact with the hauliers who report the exact
temperature of the freight and at all times keep the goods in a
sanitary environment.
Our well-established monitoring system does not only address
food quality but do also take other social issues into consider-
ation such as reducing food waste. By keeping a high standard
and control timing and temperatures during transportation
we make sure that the food we are transporting do not go to
waste and benefit as much people as possible.
FRESH MOVEMENTAs a part of our objective to organize supplier meetings we have
invited our suppliers to join our new project called Fresh Move-
ment. At Intercargo Scandinavia we expect that our suppliers
and haulage contractors in the collaboration with our company
act respectfully in the interaction with the environment, society
and towards its own employees. It is important for us that our
suppliers respect the supplier Code of Conduct. That is why it
is important for us to establish a good dialog with our suppliers,
especially because we all have the same goal, to deliver the
best quality to our customers. We have initiated this project
because we are confidant that at close cooperation will create
synergies and lead to success. Therefore each supplier have
received an invitation to join Fresh Movement, where we twice
a year meet and discuss challenges, progress and how we can
work together with respect for each others values. The Fresh
Movement initiative requires that our suppliers respect and sign
our supplier code of conduct as well as the Fresh Movement
contract. 15 % of the suppliers have already signed the contract
and supports this value -based project. We are looking forward
to improve the relationship with the suppliers in order to meet
mutual expectations and create a greater understanding for our
involvement in social and environmental responsible activities.
Our objective is to reach 100 % participation within 2016.
ANTI-CORRUPTIONIntercargo Scandinavia condemns corruption and bribery. It
is Intercargo Scandinavia’s policy that none of our employees
are allowed to accept presents or contributions of more than
symbolic value. This policy is applied to all employees regard-
less of their job position in the company. This is done in order
to do business without compromising our integrity. We want to
secure the transparency in the market and set the standards
that motivate the employees to act ethically and retain those
principles and values the company operates within. This should
set as an example for the rest of the business and also draw
attention to ethically-orientated stakeholders.

ANTI-CARTELWe do business in accordance to the competition legislation
and therefore we do not involve ourselves in arrangements
that could be perceived as compromising the transparency in
the market and influence the free movements in the market.
We therefore condemn cartels and do educate our employees
in not being involved in any matter that can be perceived as
cartel agreements.
PROCEDURES TO PREVENT SMUGGLINGWe are aware of the risks that are connected with the move-
ments across borders and how that can tempt smugglers to
try to break into the trucks in order to hide and smuggle illegal
substances or refugees. This of course, is unacceptable and we
have strong reservations towards smugglers who jeopardize
the lives of unfortunates and society, by trying to take advan-
tage of the frequent traffic across borders. We condemn this
behaviour and will at all times notify authorities and police if
we observe suspicious behaviour near our trucks and goods.
We do not want to be a victim of smugglers, therefore we have
secured our trucks and loads with lock and use surveillance in
parts of the transportation process.
SPONSORSHIP AND CHARITIESIntercargo Scandinavia exist due to a strong will to succeed,
hard work, adaption, solidarity and innovative thinking. We
support athletes who fight hard to achieve their goals as well
as we like to take care and show responsibility in our society by
supporting unfortunate children, unemployment and charity for
disease-ridden people. That is why we support and collaborate

success are closely linked to employee satisfaction. Therefore
we invest in our team and make sure that each individual has
the sufficient education, that matches his or hers ambitions
and personal development, so they feel comfortably challenged
in their daily job position. Our standards are high and we never
compromise quality, and therefore we seek to have the most
committed and responsible members in our team. We offer
education programs and the opportunity to develop to those
employees who show dedication, initiative and responsibility in
their work. We have offered education programs such as HD,
language courses such as Norwegian and Danish, IT-courses,
MBA and HR and do also execute a 2-year trainee program,
which we offer annually to those who get accepted as train-
ees in the company. Within the last year we have hired three
trainees who have begun in our trainee program. Additionally
two employees have passed their test for the truck license and
completed the education program for managing truck activities
at the terminal area.
INTERCULTURAL SYNERGIESWe see a great advantage in having a team of employees
consisting of different cultural backgrounds, this intercultural
composition adds value to the company and create a greater
understanding for different cultures, languages and mentalities.
The many nationalities in our company create a dynamic team.
We pay respect to the differences and perceive these varia-
tions in ethnic dissimilarity as an advantage in our performance
and daily operations. 40 % of our colleagues come from other
national and cultural backgrounds than Danish. We offer our
employees language courses in order to make sure everybody
feels understood, included and can work effectively with col-
leagues, suppliers and customers.
We are an international focused company and our main
business language is English and Danish, additionally we
master German, French, Swedish, Norwegian, Polish, Turkish,
Romanian, Portuguese and Spanish. We try to master as many
languages as possible in order to avoid misunderstandings in
the daily communication and create the most effective work
processes as possible.
Due to our values and cultural diversity our internal
policies and common understanding is, that bullying,
harassment and racism is not tolerated at any time
and we make sure, that each member in the team
feels welcomed and understood at their work place.
We are a modern company who believes in dialogue,
individual responsibility and, that a comfortable work-
ing environment is created due to our flat organisational
structure. This structure removes unnecessary bureaucracy
and facilitates a better communication between all members in
the company.

RECRUITMENTAs a result of our growth we are continuously hiring people. We
always look for passionate people to recruit in the team and
frequently have career openings for those, who show initiative
and who are comfortable working with a free but responsible
approach to the tasks. The company is continuously evolving
and we wish for our employees to do the same. Therefore we
support each individual in their career choice and try to give
him or her areas of responsibility that matches his or her com-
petencies and experience.
PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENTIn the spring 2014 we expanded the office area and integrated
solutions that should optimize the work environment, such as
larger shared workspace and brighter office facilities. In the
terminal we take our safety precautions and demand that all
employees who walk around in this area have to wear safety
shoes and a safety west.
Furthermore we cooperate with the Danish working environ-
ment authorities that are obligated to inspect the premises
every fifth year, and who in 2012 rewarded us with a green
smiley due to an impeccable work environment.
To avoid the risk of fire and to show Intercargo Scandinavia’s clear
stance against smoking we have formulated a policy, where smok-
ing as well as alcohol is prohibited at the premises and ground of
this company. To maintain the low illness rate among the employ-
ees we offer healthy lunch and encourage our team members to
exercise. We offer access to a squash course as well as we offer
the employees to participate with the whole team at the annual
Danish running event DHL, where companies and individuals
compete on friendly terms in nice settings near forest and sea.
Due to our focus on health, safety and social activities we
have achieved a satisfying low rate on days of illness among
the employees. The sum of sick days within the last year has
been recorded in total numbers. The Intercargo Scandinavia
team has is in total been recorded ill 15 days out of a year. The
average number of sick days per person per year is less than
one day, which we at Intercargo Scandinavia are pleased with
and will attempt to maintain or even improve the great results
in the future.
PSYCHOLOGICAL WORK ENVIRONMENTIntercargo Scandinavia tries with its flat organization structure
to create a positive and non-bureaucratic atmosphere, which
should ease the communication between all members of the
team and at the same time, create a comfortable working envi-
ronment. Furthermore we have a policy for treating each other
nicely and speaking to one another in a proper manner as well
as no bullying, inappropriate behaviour or slander is accepted.
This will in all contribute to a comfortable working environment,
where all employees feel accepted and feel that they can talk
about issues with every member of the Intercargo Scandinavia
team. To increase an even further cohesiveness in the team we
arrange teambuilding days four times a year were the employ-
