Cumnock Show
The Annual Cumnock Show was, as usual, a huge success and Cumnock Public School had many entrants
in different categories. There were too many prizes given to our students to name them all! A big thank you
to parents Lisa Baldwin, Sam Gordon and Nicole Schrader for their help at school with the biscuit
decorating and to Bron Flick for all her help with setting up and taking down our brilliant school artwork.
Leadership day
Congratulations to our Year 6 students who travelled to the Botanic
Gardens in Orange, to join other students in our COS network in a range of
challenging and exciting activities. It was a fun day for all, learning about
leadership and friendship qualities. Thank you to Vicky Kempton who
facilitated the day and to Sally Beer for organising the day for all our COS
Students.
The best part of the day....
Bonding with other students
Doing a fashion cat walk
Using our own design to decorate a white shirt
Making monsters
Learning about what makes a good listener, a good friend and a good
leader
Learning what we should do to be a good leader
Meeting old friends and making new friends
Hanging out with others
CWA Public Speaking
On Thursday of week 9 the annual school CWA speech competition was held. The standard of speeches is
to be commended. Each year the bar has risen. Topics included; 'On the School Bus, I Can't Reach,
Where do Clouds Come From, It Wasn't My idea, Fire, Don't Mention It, Dreaming, and Our Poor Oceans'.
17 participants competed and the judges had the unenviable task of judging a winner from each year. A
special mention goes to Ollie, Sienna and Abby for participating for the first time. A big thank you to Mrs
Sue O'Brien and Mrs Jan Gibson for again taking on the role of adjudicators for this event.
The winners this year were;
Year 6 Jonathan.'Our Poor Oceans'
Year 5 Zali Armstrong ...'Don't Mention It'
Year 4 Charlie Duffy ......'It Wasn't My Idea'
Year 3 Angus O'Brien ....'On the School Bus'
Congratulations to these students, who will now represent Cumnock at the next level to be held at James
Sheahan High School on Tuesday 21st May.

Vegie crunch day
On Wednesday the school held our inaugural Vegie Crunch Day to promote and influence healthy eating
choices for children. Senior students read out some vegie jingles which they wrote and Richard even
entertained us with a vegie jingle to the tune of 'Deck the Halls.'
Thank you to students who dressed up in vegie colours and brought in vegies to display. Thanks also to Zali
who made a giraffe out of carrots, the Flick children who brought their big zucchinis and the Morse
children who brought in their HUGE pumpkin! Best dressed vegie staff member went to Mrs McFarland who
was adorned in a green dress appliqued with lots of colourful vegies!
I'm sure next year there will be lots more creations and activities to promote healthy eating.

ANZAC Day
A reminder to all parents that our ANZAC Day Service will take place
in the second week of the school holidays on Thursday 25th April. As
always, our school has been invited to sing ANZAC songs and lead
the march to the Preschool. Everyone is warmly invited to attend this
moving ceremony and children are asked to wear their full school
winter uniform. Teachers and students will gather in front of the
Cumnock General Store at 10:30am. Thankyou in anticipation of your
attendance.
Emergency contact information
Parents/carers please note, it is extremely important for our school to have up-to-date information with
regards to phone numbers, addresses and emergency contacts. If you have changed any of these,
please contact the school immediately.
Asthma or other Emergency action plans
If your child experiences asthma or any other medical condition which may require urgent attention, could
you please ensure we have an asthma plan or other important medical information.
Speed limits in school zones
As the school year begins, parents and community are reminded to take care when driving in school
zones.
School zones are in place to reduce traffic speed near schools during the times indicated in the school
zone sign.
Please take care and keep an eye out for our students. Please avoid the bus zone area when dropping off
or picking up your children.
Riding bikes and scooters to school
Students riding bikes or scooters to school must wear a helmet. This is a condition for riding to school and
while your child may not wear a helmet outside of school, for risk management and safety purposes, they
must have a helmet when riding to and from school. Students not wearing a helmet will be reminded, and
if continuing to not wear a helmet will be instructed to leave their bike or scooter at home.
Bikes and scooters must be walked across roads at all times. Students not taking care to abide by these
guidelines will be reminded of these safety rules, and will be asked not to ride their bike or scooter to school
if unsafe behaviour persists.
Opportunity Classes
Opportunity class applications will soon open for students in Year 4 wishing to be considered for a
placement in 2020. Please come and see Mr West for more information if you intend to apply.
