CLUB OF THE WEEK
National Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society
The National Junior and National Honor Societies are two nation-wide organizations that we are proud to have here at Orlando Science Schools. We focus on community service
and participate in a lot of different events such as helping raise money for victims in various disasters, Relay for Life, Breast Cancer week, Second Harvest Food Bank, and Toys
for Tots. All of our members are required to maintain a high grade point average, continuously contribute volunteer hours, and are role models at our school and
community. National Honor Society (NHS) meets on Mondays in room 148 and National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) meets on Tuesdays in room 148. These two clubs are more
than just an honor roll, these clubs serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character.
These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginning in 1921.
We are currently accepting applications for membership until January 30, 2018. To obtain an
application, please see Ms. Stevens in room 128 or Mrs. Frunker in room 148.

We would like to say CONGRATULATIONS to Mrs. Mulligan’s
homeroom class for turning in the most Box Tops for our first contest of the school year. They received a special
dress down day for their efforts. Thank You!!
Please start saving for our next deadline which will be Friday, February 23, 2018.
Keep an eye out for those Box Tops during the Holidays, especially the Green Giant
canned vegetables (green beans, corn, etc.) along with many other items such as Ziploc baggies. If you are visiting family or friends during the
Holidays ask them to also check their pantries for Box Tops.
To see a list of products, go to: www.boxtops4education.com/earn/participating-products
When turning in Box Tops make sure that your student’s homeroom teacher’s name is on
the baggie so that they may receive credit. You can turn these in to your homeroom teacher or drop them in a collection box that I have set up in the front office located to
the left as you come in the front door. Also, it is very important to check those expiration dates.
(We do not receive any credit for expired Box Tops.)
Please remember that BOX TOPS are a wonderful FREE way to raise funds for our school. Each Box Top is worth $.10 and really adds up. Please make sure to continuously send
these in so that I can mail them before their expiration dates. The monies received go to supporting our Academic and Sporting Teams, the PLTW (Project Lead the Way) along with many other OSS programs and classroom needs. If you would like to learn more
about the Box Tops program go to: www.btfe.com . Please register or login today. Make sure that you designate Orlando Science Schools as your school to support, not the
elementary.
Thank you so much for your support of Orlando Science Middle High School. For questions or thoughts please email me at [email protected]

Orlando Science Middle High
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We like to find ways to communicate with parents to support our mutual involvement in your child’s education. As part of OSS tradition, we are organizing home visits as a way to reach out to our families and get to know them better. We would like to set up a time for a few of your students teachers to have a brief 20-30 minute home visit. Home visits are an effective way to establish positive contact and communication with families. They are not a replacement for parent-teacher conferences, but are a process through which teachers demonstrate their support for students’ families by visiting the home environment where the family feels comfortable. Home visits originate from a sincere desire to assist and work with families. We will be glad to visit you and your child at a convenient time. If you would like to host a home visit, please select one of the days listed on the link below. We will be organizing quarterly home visits. If you are not available during first quarter, you always can choose a day later on in the school year. We look forward to visiting you!
Sincerely, Orlando Science Schools Teachers and Staff

Do not wait, sign up today! First eight to sign up for a time slot are the first served. Please email Mr. Stampas for more Information.

Parent Teacher
Conference Corner Dear Parents, Guardians and Families! Here at Orlando Science Middle High (Lynx Lane Campus) we strive to make sure that we are always on the same page for your child’s success. Each quarter we will hold two parent teacher conference nights, so you may discuss your student’s progress with their teachers. Please note that not every parent will get a chance to meet with their student’s teachers during these nights, and that is okay. You may email your student’s teachers at any time to discuss their progress as well as setting up a meeting that will work for both them and you. You find our Parent Teacher Conference dates below, as well as when you will be able to sign up for time slots. We ask that you understand that due to the large volume of students, OSS Staff members will not be able to sign up for a time slot for you, so please plan accordingly. If dates and or times change, we will notify you in advance.
