HISTORY

The building was founded in 1066 next to the Tamigi and it was done by William the conqueror..

Her Majesty's Royal Palace and Fortress, more commonly known as the Tower of London.

It is a historic castle on the north bank of the River Thames in central London, England.

Covent Garden is one of London's most popular tourist attractions.

The name Covent Garden originates from when the land formerly belonging to Westminster Abbey, was 'the Convent Garden'.

EARLY HISTORY

• The route of the Strand on the southern boundary of what was to become Covent Garden.

• It was used during the Roman period as part of a route to Silchester, known as "Iter VII" on the Antonine Itinerary.

THE BEDFORD STATE

• After the Dissolution of the Monasteries in 1540, Henry VIII took for himself the land belonging to Westminster Abbey, including the convent garden and seven acres to the north called Long Acre.

• In 1552 his son, Edward VI, granted it to John Russell, 1st Earl of Bedford.
