To be recognised as one of the leading international schools in the world

Our Instrumental Music Programme

What the Programme offers

The Instrumental Music Programme is open to all

children, both primary and secondary, wanting to

learn music. Your child does not have to be enrolled

at Doha College to benefit from the Programme.

Students will receive a private, 30 to 60-minute lesson

each week.

Private music lessons are available for:

Instruments may be hired from Doha College at

a small cost. Fees for lessons range from QR140

for 30 minutes to QR280 for an hour.

Enrolment begins at the start of each academic year

(September) but is also available throughout the year.

Initial lessons are 30 minutes, as a student progresses,

the lessons lengthen to 45 and 60 minutes. Lessons

can be delivered during class time or after school.

The welfare of our students is always paramount.

Our teachers will accompany any primary students

to and from their music lessons during school hours.

We also encourage each student to find a music buddy

who will collect class information and pass on

homework details from any missed lessons.

Music is extremely popular with our students at Doha College. It allows for creativity and self-

expression, and is a way of bringing people together. Music also develops confidence, social skills and

the ability to artistically express oneself in a group.

It is with great pleasure that we introduce our new Instrumental Music Programme at Doha College.

The Programme provides all children with an opportunity to learn a band or orchestral instrument and

participate in performance ensembles.

Under the programme, children can further their musical education with Doha College’s highly trained

specialist teachers.

Practice

We strongly recommend that our students undertake regular practice. This ensures they gain the maximum

benefit from the Programme and reach their goals. Our teachers have many strategies for you to help your child at

home and support their musical practice.

Keeping in Touch

Each student will have a contact information sheet that will be kept with the instrumental teacher. This ensures

the teacher is able to contact you if necessary.

Examinations and Performance Opportunities

Doha College is extremely active in both hosting and participating in music led events. There will be many opportu-

nities to participate as a group and an individual. We encourage our students to participate in performance and

theory examinations while enrolled in the Programme.

Instrumental Hire

To encourage and support our music students in all aspects of their musical

development, the Music department at Doha College is delighted to offer a

limited number of instruments for hire. Instruments can also be purchased

from Yamaha at 51 East who offers a 10% discount for Doha College students.

Students will receive lessons on a weekly basis during term time. During holidays the teacher may offer

additional lessons as an exception.

Lessons are timetabled during school hours or thereafter. It remains the responsibility of the student to com-

plete all curriculum work in addition to their music lessons.

Tuition fees are payable per term. Invoices will be issued by our Accounts department

The tuition fees are QR140 per 30 minute lesson, QR 210 per 45 minutes, and QR 280 per 60 minutes.

Enrolment is for the Academic Year or remainder thereof.

Written notice of discontinuation of tuition must be received five weeks prior to the end of the last academic

term attended by the student (excl holidays). This should be addressed to the Head of Instrumental Music.

Refunds will only be given in exceptional circumstances. An administration fee of QR 250 will be applicable to

any refund other than those made on medical grounds.

Lessons are scheduled on a rotation schedule during school hours, and a fixed schedule after school hours.

If a student is sick or unable to attend a lesson due to unforeseen circumstances, they should inform the

teacher prior to the start of the lesson. In this case, the teacher will endeavour to provide a make-up lesson.

However, this cannot be guaranteed due to scheduling restraints.

When lessons coincide with a school activity, for example sports days, camps, class excursions or tests,

it is the responsibility of the parent (or the student in the case of Secondary students) to contact the

Instrumental teacher and arrange a suitable alternate time. Failure to do so will result in the lesson being

forfeited and paid for. (No make-up lesson can be offered in this case.)

Lessons missed due to a public holiday (1 day) will be made up by the Instrumental teacher.

If the Instrumental teacher is sick or unable to provide a lesson, they will inform the parent and then provide

a make-up lesson (if there is a suitable time) or provide a credit for the following term.

A maximum of two lessons can be made up per term. The last week of the term is used to schedule make-up

lessons.
