Dear 9 th Grade English Parents, We are finally coming upon the end of the school year! Hooray for all of us! I wanted to make sure that you knew how to support your freshman student(s) in preparing for their finals in English 9 next month (and what they should be doing to prepare!). Our final exam will be in two parts: a multiple-choice exam, and an in-class essay. The first part, the multiple-choice exam, will feature a few short excerpts from stories that the students have not read before, and they will have to apply the techniques learned in class to assist them in analyzing the stories. Students can prepare by reviewing the body of work we have gone over this year (focusing heavily on To Kill A Mockingbird and The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet), and practice identifying various literary devices to each one. You can support your student by asking them to identify examples of foreshadowing, symbolism, theme, characterization, irony, etc., and having them explain to you why the example they are giving you connects to that literary device. The second part of our exam will have students write an in-class essay. We have been practicing our writing for quite some time, but recently we have ramped up our efforts with timed practice writes. You can support your student by reviewing with them their timed writes, and how they can improve on those issues that are identified. The hope is that they see the areas that they lost points on and address them, so they get the highest possible score when they do it one last time for me in June. It has been a pleasure working with the Class of 2022 this year, and I appreciate all of your support. I look forward to continuing to cheer them on as they continue their high school journey. Warm Regards, Ms. Bhaijee

Afectuosamente, Ms. Bhaijee
