CROSS Middle SchoolMission Trip,June 25-30

Passing of the Peace:The gesture is simple, but the meaning isprofound. When weextend our hand toanother, we identifywith Jesus, whoextended his life to thepoint of death to makepeace with humanity(Col. 1:20-21). What’smore, in the midst ofdivisions we symbolizeour unity throughhandshakes and hugs(Eph. 2:14-21). Likewise, when weregularly pass thepeace we practiceGod’s call to makeevery effort tomaintain the bond ofpeace (Eph. 4:3).

Hymn: All threesynoptic gospels recordboth the telling andthe explanation ofJesus’ parable of theSower (Matthew13:3–8, 18–23/Mark4:3–8, 14–20/Luke8:5–8, 11–15). Becausethe seed equals “theword,” Jesus (as theWord made flesh)becomes the Seed inthis expansion of theparable.

RESPONDING TO THE WORD

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH The Apostles’ Creed Rev. Alex RodgersI believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus

Christ his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of theVirgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; hedescended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended intoheaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence heshall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holycatholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection ofthe body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

PRESENTATION OF TITHES AND OFFERINGS ANTHEM: O For a Closer Walk with God C. V. Stanford

Chancel ChoirO for a closer walk with God, A calm and heav’nly frame; A light to shine upon the road Thatleads me to the Lamb! Return, O holy Dove, Return sweet messenger of rest; I hate the sins thatmade Thee mourn, And drove Thee from my breast. ELDER and TRUSTEE NOMINATIONSThe Nominations Council wants to know whom you think should be considered for nomination as Elders or Trustees for theClass of 2020. Active members of Decatur Presbyterian Church are eligible to serve as an Elder.

The Book of Order states that Elders are chosen by the people. Together with ministers of the Word and Sacrament, theyexercise leadership, government, and discipline and have responsibilities for the life of a particular church as well as thechurch-at-large, including ecumenical relationships.
