From Fr. Davy’s Desk:
ADVENT- PEACE
Hope the Thanksgiving celebration went well. We can’t thank God enough for the wonderful
world, gift of life and family, beautiful nature, delicious food, etc. We thank Him every day for
joy, peace, love and good health we have.
Now we begin the season of Advent. It is a time of waiting, watching and preparing. The
Advent wreath is blessed on the first Sunday of Advent. The Streets in the neighborhood are
adorned with the Christmas lights. Christmas decorations and gifts are already displayed in the
shops. Is Advent just another Christmas holiday? Or is it for something much more? It is a
period of waiting and preparing for PEACE. This is what the Advent teaches us again and
again, not in a monotonous repetition of the same thing year after year, but in an ever-fuller
appreciation of it as it touches our lives more deeply and more profoundly each year.
Peacemaking is not an optional commitment. It is a requirement of our faith. We are called to
be peacemakers, not by some movement of the moment, but by our Lord Jesus. In our Advent
liturgy as we light the Advent candle let us make a resolution to be peace makers in our
family, in school, in our job, in our neighborhood, in our society, in all our relationships with
people. In every Eucharistic celebration we exchange this peace by offering one another a sign
of peace. Let us carry it out into the world and make it a reality at every chance we have:
private and public, individual and social, religious and political. And in this way, our Advent
waiting is not just a passive waiting for the coming of another Christmas holiday, but rather an
active, concrete contributing to the present and future final coming of the perfectly peaceful
kingdom of God.
WISH YOU A PEACEFUL ADVENT!

Estamos llamados a
