Dear Parishioners, Merry Christmas! There is something so calming, reassuring and peaceful about the celebration of Christmas. After all the shopping is done, all the gifts are given or delivered, all the parties are

done, people sit down with their families and loved ones to celebrate Christmas. There is quietness, serenity and joy. All the readings of Christmas also speak of joy, peace and hope at the birth of Jesus the Messiah. The angel tells the shepherds, “Do not be afraid, behold I proclaim to you good news of great JOY.” The hosts of angels sang, “Glory to God in the highest and on earth PEACE to those on whom his favor rests.” Indeed God’s favor rests on us. We have been blessed greatly by God. May we truly acknowledge and be thankful to God for all his blessings during this Christmas! While celebrating our blessings and favors bestowed by God, we cannot ignore the world around us-men and women who are forced to spend this Christmas alone due to various reasons, the unemployed, those who lost their homes in the recent fires and the poor. We shall remember them in our prayers. We shall also remember the many men and women in our armed forces who are spending their Christmas away from their families. May God continue to bless them and protect them! Yours sincerely, Fr. Jose Shaji, Pastor

Dan Schutte Advent Retreat- Last Saturday the parish hosted an all-day Advent reflection directed by Dan Schutte. All who participated including those from other parishes found the day very uplifting. As previously mentioned Dan is the composer of many of the songs which we currently sing from our hymnal. Unlike most retreats, Dan led directed meditation, mixed with humorous story-telling, which was then paired with sung prayer. Dan called us to awake in this season of Advent to God’s forthcoming incarnation as well as the current presence of the Spirit in our daily lives. He also directed us in an Ignatian exercise focusing on the Nativity in which we were encouraged to visualize our own presence in the manger. As was previously mentioned in the parish bulletin, Dan is the resident composer at USF and hopefully could join us again with another day of reflection possibly during Lent or Easter time.

St. Anselm Church Calendar of Events

A few weeks ago, my son David, a science teacher at Fairfield High School, opened his classroom at lunch time for students interested in

playing the ukulele. Ten students showed up with ukuleles and fifteen more showed up the next time without ukuleles- they shared. My son set a web site for gofundme and in three weeks he reached his goal to buy ukuleles for students who could not buy one. A very generous person in our church donated her ukulele to my son. That gave me the idea that there are probably more people who have a ukulele they do not use, and maybe they would like to donate it to a child at Fairfield High. The numbers of students showing interest to play is growing. You can contact me, Rose Shadduck at 415-453-6533. God Bless, Rose

  • Our Lady of Guadalupe On Sunday, December 10th our Religious Education class did a procession in her honor before the 10am mass. During the mass, our Youth Ministry hosted a beautiful celebration in her honor, where children were invited to present Our Lady with a rose. After mass, Mexican music was blasting, the smell of fresh tortillas, Mexican hot cocoa and sweet breads filled the hall. A special thank you to our youth who hosted and planned this event and to all the adult volunteers. For those who do not know, Our Lady of Guadalupe is the only self portrait of Our Blessed Mother that we have and given to us by her! Our Lady, pray for us and invoke in us the yearning to know you better.

On Sunday, December 17th after the 5pm Mass, our Youth Ministry sold their hand-made rosaries to help fund their Youth Trip. A special thank you to parishioner Jody Sanchez who donated the materials to make these rosaries and her time in teaching the youth how to make them. “The Rosary is a school of Prayer. The Rosary is a school of Faith.”- Pope Francis
