Pastor’s Corner
My Dear Parishioners, Today we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Family in which we honor Jesus of Nazareth, his moth-er, the Blessed Virgin Mary, & his foster father, Saint Joseph, as a family. This Feast was insti-tuted by Pope Leo XIII in 1893. Pope Leo XIII is also the one who wrote the Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel that we recite after our Masses. Originally, this liturgical celebration fell on the Sunday within (what was) the Octave of the Epiphany; that is to say, on the Sun. between Jan. 7 through Jan. 13. Now, however, it is cele-brated on the Sunday within the Octave of Christmas, that is, the Sunday between Christmas Day & New Year's Day. The primary purpose of this Feast is to present the Holy Family as a model for all Christian families. This is a wonderful day to celebrate our families, pray for them & reflect on how we, as parents & children, can imitate their virtues in our daily lives. I pray on this beautiful Feast that your families will be blessed! As a reminder, during the month of Jan., we are continuing with our Breakfast Faith Discussions for our youth in grades 7-8 as well as High School. These faith discussions are “informal” gatherings to come together & learn more about our faith. In addition, our youth can come to know other youths their age & share a free breakfast together. These discussions include short videos, a reflection on the Sunday Gospel & simple faith sharing. There is no homework required. The discussions last for one hour (11:15AM-12:15PM) in the Upper Room. The discussions this month are scheduled for the Sundays of Jan. 13th & 27th. We invite our younger parishioners to participate, bring a friend, and of course, parents are always welcome. For more info, contact Sr. Kathleen Fitzpatrick, IHM at 610-688-6590 or [email protected]. Finally, to provide an update on our Annual Appeal, as of this writing we have received a total of $62,785 in donations. If you haven’t sent in your census form and/or donation we invite you to do so. This Appeal is very important for the capital projects of our parish. So, I thank you once again for your sacrificial giving! On this Feast of the Holy Family, may your families be blessed!
Love and prayers, Fr. Carey
